[205x355]Crispian doesn’t do things on a small scale. The 25 foot tall Christmas tree in his garden being no exception. Unfortunaetly, whilst it’s easy enough to get to the top, it’s not as easy to come down. Hanging on for dear life to a short thread of tinsel , he still managed to shout down some answers us for his 30 second interview..
Crispian, it’s been a while since we last spoke, tell us what we can expect from this year’s Christmas single.
A marvelous mash up of monumental proportions.
You are now obviously involved heavily in the film-making lifecycle from start to end product. What are the similarities/differences in film-making and creating an album of music?
Well it’s similar in that it all starts on your own, in front of a blank page, and you build it up from there. The difference, I suppose, is that in order to realise a film you need lots and lots of people to all work together as a team. You could compare it to writing for an orchestra. As far as the business side of the process goes, it’s all pretty much the same, i.e lots of cliques, sheep, and egos.
What’s the longest amount of time you’ve ever held your breath and under what circumstance?
Trying to get my first film off the ground, I think I held my breath for about 8 years.
What next for Kula Shaker? When will the band be going back on the road?
When the band everyone is available and up for it!
[300x225]Apparently, Alonza works so hard in the studio that he doesn’t even have time to take a quick leek. He still managed to give us 30 seconds of his time though…
So you took the helm in the production for Pilgrims Progress. Looking back, do you feel there was anything you could have done differently to enhance or improve on the album?
I’m really happy with how Pilgrims Progress turned out, there’s an endless list of things I would have liked to try out but that’s the good thing about making a record, when it’s finished, it’s finished.
If I came to your home and looked inside the refrigerator, what would I find?
Half a pack of green beans, 1 broccoli, 2 courgettes, 5 children’s yogurt pots, an assortment of cheese,1 carton of milk, 3 veggie sausages. a pot of mayonnaise, creme fraiche and a suspicious looking tomato. Oh, and milk.
Do you think we’ll be hearing any more Welsh accented vocals on any future Kula Shaker/solo tracks?
We saw Dai Leek the other day so you might not have to wait too long.
Would you believe in Santa if you seen him drinking coffee instead of tea?
I believe in Santa regardless of what he drinks however I’m sure a wise old man like him must prefer a nice cup of tea.
[показать]Yule never believe it, it’s almost Christmas time again, and no Kula Shaker Christmas is complete without a quick catchup from our very own Fantastic Four. There’s snow doubt, this year’s Kula Xmas will be one to remember.
We recently bumped into Harry shopping for Christmas presents in Poundland. Harry agreed to give us 30 seconds of his time in exchange for our silence..to never reveal to his friends how much that expensive bottle of perfume really cost.
So we’ve seen you recently on GMTV performing alongside Gabriella Cilmi. What other music projects are you involved in right now and will we be seeing any music from you as an individual?
Yes, I do hate having to get up so early….. I’ve been doing some writing and production, playing a bit of freak out improvisation, doing sessions and getting my drumming shoes on again to play some extraordinarily slow tempos with tattooed men wearing eyeliner – generally keeping busy. I’m working on my own album at this very moment in fact. Just spent a week at Lonze’s getting things going. Early stages so I can’t say much yet but its very exciting – its been a long time coming.
What’s on your i-pod just now?
My i-pod has been hijacked by the missus, the last thing I remember listening to on it was Logos by Atlas Sound. I look forward to listening to it again one day.
What’s the craziest thing a Kula Shaker fan has ever given to you after a show? Keep it clean please!

Who in the band would you say is Santa, who’se rudolph the red nose reindeer, who’se Santa’s little helper and who is the stocking?
I think Maurice really gets the title of Santa, and possibly all the reindeer and elves as well. At some point each of us has been the stocking. Mostly Paul.

To quote the producer of The Godfather, Robert Evans: «There are three sides to every story: Your side, my side, and the truth. There were lots of questions about last week’s announcements. Audrey was speaking about only one half of the story, (her half), so for everyone who asked, here’s the other side. Then you can make up your own mind about the truth.
Of course, I agree it’s a massive shame to put the brakes on touring right now, but the truth is, making a film is a huge undertaking, and the window of opportunity only opens very briefly, and waits for no one. I’ve been working in film for ten years now, and despite some set backs, and a couple of very disappointing experiences, film has remained a passion and a major part of my life. The band were always aware of this, but that didn’t stop it being a disappointment when the schedules clashed so titanically.
I really, really, REALLY appreciate the amazing support that the fans have given us on this record, and wish we could come and play in everyone’s front lounge for FREE, but alas, despite the 21st century being well under way, holographic technology is still sadly lacking. As you might expect however, music is an important part of making a film, and my friends were always expected to be involved. Anyway, I’m sure the other guys will write something to you all at some point.
In the meantime, there’s going to be a movie, which is going to be totally fuckin’ awwwwsome, further details of which will be announced as things move forward. And, if we can all just keep our cool and make love not war, there’ll be more music to come too.

[показать]Big thanks for all the love and support that Pilgrims Progress has been given; it’s come generously, and sometimes quite unexpectedly, from all over the world. It had been a while since Strangefolk, so we didn’t know which way it would go. We’ve all been totally blown away.
Looking ahead, the good news is there’s a movie project definitely in the pipes, due to start early next year. The flip side, however, (yea- you know there’s always a flip, with this pesky duality business- life/death, day/night, weed/brain damage), the flip is that we have to postpone touring for a while. We’ve had masses of requests for the band to perform all over the world, so we’re really sorry. The gigs so far have been amazing, so thanks to everyone who came along and sang Peter Pan R.I.P at the top of their voices.
Apologies also that this announcement has taken a while, (though, surely you folks must used to it by now?), schedules being what they are, the decision has been hanging in the balance for a couple of months, waiting for news on the flick. Moving forward, there will be exciting things happening, and of course, more detailed information as things roll forward with the film, so we’ll stay hooked up on the website.
