Are you ready for a kitchen renovation? These design trends may be worth reconsidering if you already have a kitchen remodel. These are the kitchen trends that you need to avoid in 2022.

You think you are ready to renovate your kitchen? You're confident you have your design down. Consider rethinking your design if you include any of the following design trends. Even the most well-intentioned trends can go out of style. These are the top kitchen trends to avoid for 2022 and beyond.

The home office will be in high demand this year.

While little work stations in the cooking area were an innovative addition, the work habits of the past year have changed. Many people work remotely, but some work at home.

This means you need a better workspace than the small desk in your kitchen. This year, home offices are in high demand. A small desk in the kitchen will not cut it. Your lunch crowd won't interrupt Zoom meetings and offices will move to quieter, larger places.

Soffits are a boxy structure that is above your kitchen cabinets, where you can hide wiring and pipes.

They stick out from the cabinets and are often awkward. They are functional but designers have recently rethought them and found them to be a waste space and not design-wise.

It's a great time to move wires, pipes and conduits from one location to another when you are remodeling. Install taller cabinets to increase kitchen storage space. You can even mount your cabinets up to the ceiling.

White kitchens look great.

White kitchens will always be available. Many designers worry that too many whites can make the kitchen appear crowded and cheap. This is why they are a kitchen trend to avoid by 2022 - unless you make some changes. . .

There are many ways you can do all-white without getting too much. You can add some color context by using accents or a comparable amount of another color. It doesn't always have to be bright and bold. Even a neutral or metallic color can bring white to a whole new level. You can also add texture to your white kitchen. A white kitchen with texture creates depth and a richer design.

Granite countertops should not be used in your kitchen.

They were the norm in the 90s and 2000s, but today they make kitchens look old. Quartzite, a gorgeous (and expensive) countertop that is sweeping kitchen design, is now the hottest trend.

The vein vs. the grain is the basis for quartzite's popularity. Granite is a grainy stone. Granite is a grained stone.

Veined stones such as marble and quartzite can have strands that run through a solid area. It is best to avoid this speckled look. Any countertop surface with more solid colors or veining is in fashion: concrete, marble, wood, engineered rock, etc.

All that beautiful ornate detail we have loved over the years has been lost.

Trends are shifting towards minimalism and simplicity. Although details can give personality and character, they can also make you look old and heavy.

Plain and simple is a design that can either be dressed up, or used as a standalone piece. You can always add accents to bring out the details that you like. These accents shouldn't be permanent but you can always change them as trends change.

Simple stays relevant longer. This can also be a plus if your goal is to sell your home in the future. Potential buyers will be able to add their own details to a basic kitchen.

The kitchen is, first and foremost, a functional space.

However, 2022 will see a shift towards a more visually simple approach.

Stand mixers, as well as toaster ovens, will soon be moved into the pantry. Microwaves located above the stove will no longer work. The smaller the number of functional items in your kitchen, it is better.

There will be a significant increase in the variety of cabinet doors available for dishwashers as well as refrigerators. Some kitchens may appear almost invisible to their surroundings.

Style Mismatch - The open floor plan is still in high demand.

We will never be able to go back in time to an enclosed kitchen or living space that is separate from the rest. It is important to plan for an open floor plan. The whole space should feel one-dimensional.

You can no longer have a rustic kitchen with a mid-century modern floorplan. To avoid this design faux pas, you need to be able to identify your style and apply it throughout the open floor plan.

Short Backsplashes - No more 4-inch backsplashes.

They make no sense stylistically or functionally. A full backsplash will be the new trend for 2022. It will extend from your countertop to the bottom of the cabinets. Designers recommend that your backsplash material be continued all the way up the wall. As an accent, the full wall backsplash can become the focal point of your kitchen design.

The removal of the 4-inch backsplash could mean that you have to reconsider your backsplash material. A lot of kitchens that have shorter backsplashes use the same material as their countertops. This is also possible for taller backsplashes. You have the option of tile, glass, mirror or another washable surface.

Now you are ready to tackle your next kitchen remodel. Now you know what trends to avoid in 2022, and what you can do instead. You're ready for a kitchen that is timeless.
