Marcus was a smart businessman. Every time he came to grips with a problem, he solved it. He was a rich tall handsome brunet and he rang the bell with pretty women, but he got into a groove and had no time for dating with them.
Then he met Nina. She was as beautiful as an angel in the flesh. He liked her very much and he even had a date with her. It took him much time and energy to gain her consent to go to the theatre with him. Later that evening after theatre and then a chic restaurant, they came to his apartment and suddenly he came up with an idea to ask her whether she already had a boyfriend. And she said yes, to his great disappointment. He felt stirrings of jealousy. She said her boyfriend’s name was Richard Nicolson. Richard suited her down to the ground, but she had a thing about tall brunets. That is the reason why she agreed to meet with Marcus.
It was an odd coincidencethat Marcus’s investors had recently come to grips with their fears and looking round for ideas he had a meeting with his potential new investors the next morning. And one of the investors was Richard Nicolson, although he had never seen him for they carried on their negotiations only via e-mail and phone.
It was an extremely important meeting for the future development of Marcus’s business and he had all his buttons. As Marcus saw Richard, he realized they were opposite: Richard was a short fat bold old man. It confused him very much. What could Nina find attractive in a person like him?! These thoughts about Nina and Richard made him speak haltingly. He even was afraid that potential investors would think he was a borderline case.He tried to size up the reaction of the audience: they attended his speechand the expressions on their faces were serious. This thing reassured Marcus and he had his feet firm on the ground again.
In a week Marcus had a date with Nina. And Richard had a date with her as well. The thing is that Nina realized she had to plump for only one of them and organized such a date for her to understand her feelings better. Both men were surprised to see each other, but none of them had a yielding character and none of them tended to give up that easy. They got even more surprised when by the end of the dinner it came out that she decided topart with both of them. She said: “I need to rest some period of time in loneliness”. She said it with such an air of wistfulness that they didn’t even realize she had just sent to Coventry both of them.
It took Marcus months to come to grips with what had gone wrong. He thought that he had at least to try to reassure her about his love and faithfulness and all those romantic things, but then it came out that Nina simply had been dating at that time with one more man – Scott – and by that time he had made her a proposal of marriage.
