The subject of this audiotext is cultural shock. The speaker states that if you were to depict it on paper it would be a wave-shape diagram consisting of 3 stages.
The 1st stae is often reffered to as the "honey moon" stage. It's the highest point of te diagram. At this stage people experience the whole set of new strange emotions, to wich they don't usually react with fear. Mostly they feel euthoria, excitement and fascination. At this moment cultural differences are likely to be exciting.
The next stage is called "the let down stage". During this period person tends to feel irritation, hostility and confusion. People get lonely and exhausted, nervous. They feel like lost children without any protection, who want to come home but can't. They are in need of the sense of safety. And that's the reason why they tend to communicate mostly with representetives of their culture.
The final stage of the cultural shock is resignation. At this point many become adjusted to the new country. They might neer recapture the honey moon stage, but it is better than let down stage. Also it was said such term as "internal cultural shock", which can be experienced by older residents when encountering a new habit or tradition, not familiar food, different patterns.
In conclusion the presentor proposed to look at some practical applications of the research. Cultural differences can lead to tense relationships between ethnic groups. So, according to the speaker nowadays it's essential to get some cross-cultural communication because the more we learn about differences - the easier is to live in the world
