[показать]Joana Alves Dias was born in the 22nd of March in 1989 in the city of Lisbon, Portugal, where she was raised. Joana is currently studying at Nova University in Lisbon, majoring in languages, Literature and culture, variant of Portuguese studies. However, the path she took was a bit far off course, academically speaking, something she now deeply regrets.
It was early in her life when she found her true calling. No matter the shape it takes, she appreciates and embraces all kinds of art. It all started in her childhood with the dream of being a fashion designer, sketching fantasy dresses and with the strong belief that one day they`d be shown on a runway in a famous city. As time passed the clothing went to second plan, and she began to take more interest in the models, human features, interaction, placing them in different environments.
Being an autodidact took her to experiment with all kinds of materials; she started off with graphite pencils, followed by pastels, charcoal, oil painting and many more.
After experimenting with other kind of crafts, she finally discovered digital painting and photo manipulation amidst the DeviantArt community.
As soon as she overcame the learning curve, she knew that was exactly what she wanted to do, as it granted her the freedom to create at her heart's desire, and at that point the sheet of paper just wasn't enough. She is driven by her emotions, her state of mind; a symbiotic fusion of music, literature and cinema.
In her newly discovered gift Joana already had a few role models, such as Susan McKivergan and Alexandra V. Bach, among some other contemporary and traditional artists, like Luis Royo, Victoria Frances and Mark Ryden.
Although Joana is still young, she keeps trying to surpass herself, obtain more experience and fighting to succeed and make a career of something that started out as a hobby.
