I started wondering today why the genre of diary or journal is so popular these days. Some of the best examples are Bridget Jones' Diary and Sex and The City. Could it be that female diaries are more popular than males? Or that we tend to be more interested in other people's lives and lives of other females is typically more interesting to us than lives of males? Are diaries are justification for butting in someone else's life? If we gossip and pass judgement about a book or TV series it can be written off to discussing literature or popular culture. But doing the same to a person we know is considered rude and is looked down on.

Even peeking into lives of strangers through this site gives us the opportunity to "look through someone's window" so to speak. This site is similar to reality shows but the web version without pictures (well, sometimes with them).
