Can modern women really have it all?
Read another article today and most American women think that it's possible. I'm not so sure. Of course it's possible to have a family and a career, the question is "Is it possible to have both a successful career and a successful family?"
I think one of the reasons I'm apprehensive to have children is because most kids I see today scare me. In order to let the children "find themselves" their parents let them get away with almost anything. Most of the commercials for cleaning supplies show and I quote, "kids being kids." This pretty much means that they paint on the walls, jump on the bottle of chocolate syrip in the middle of a white living room, play soccer in the kitchen, etc. Same TV projects the image of a successful career woman as a vindictive bitch. There is some truth behind it, in order to rise through the ranks in the corporate world, a woman must be able to leave her femininity at home. Many of them are married...to men who also work 12 hour days and have children who are cared after by nannies or shipped off to boarding school. That's not my idea of having it all .
Then there are women who are stay-at-home-moms (the PC term for housewifes). Many of them still work part time, freelance or find some other way to entertain themselves during the school hours. Their children tend to behave better and grow up to be mentally healthier and more well rounded adults. However, I find it hard to be at home and not do housework, which I happen to hate. How does one justify not working and still hiring someone to clean and do laundry?
