Feel very responsible for Yul'ka feeling abondoned by her old friends. Didn't mean to. Has been busy/depressed lately and didn't want to pass that on to others. Looking for a job for 6 months will do that to you. Feel pretty rejected and unwanted at the moment.
After reading about Yul'ka's troubles with her thesis, decided that it's not as bad as looking for a job. This decision resulted in a schedule meeting with my old Russian professor tomorrow. Mishka thinks I should use all the energy that is now channeled into whinning and moping around apartment for doing a Ph.D. in Russian lit. I was always much better at bullshitting on any given topic than doing actual work. Most of my Russian professors actually thought I was pretty good. Unlike my Economics professors... How did I end up in Finance anyway?

хааааааааааааа, вот она первая польза от моей диссертации - бушь смеяться, кажется, она у меня с мертвой точки сдвинулась, хотя я сегодня утром еще собиралась закупиться антидепрессантами.
я догадывалась, что у тебя не все в порядке, но знаешь, лучше не прятаться, а уж тем более ты никого здесь не напряжешь своими грустями. с поисками работы хорошо тебя понимаю, поскольку когда начинаю заглядываться на работные сайты, диссертационные какашки отягащаются рабочми. ы!
Я думаю, у тебя может быть оч. интересный результат, если ты бушь писать пхд. жду с нетерпением. :-)

My biggest concern with the Ph.D. and the reason I haven't done anything about it until now is that 90% of universities that offer it (which is only a handfull) require reading knowledge of BOTH French and German. And I have аbsоlutely no desire to learn either language. Also to consider that my language skills are nowhere near yours.
а русский - не обязательно? что-то я сомневаюсь, что многие американцы знают все три... жаль, жаль. расскажешь про результаты встречи? это тот самый уникальный препод, который у вас читал современную литературу, приносил свои переводы?

How did you guess and more important, how did you remember him? I'm impressed. Yes, I'm meeting with him. He actually did his Ph.D. in comperative lit and I think it was to avoid the language requirements. The website claims that French and German are necessary because a number of courses use french and german texts.
