Питер Брейгель (точнее Брёгел) Старший, (нидерл. Pieter Bruegel de Oude, ок. 1525—1569) известный также под прозвищем «Мужицкий»,- нидерландский живописец и рисовальщик, самый известный и значительный из носивших эту фамилию художников эпохи Северного Возрождения. Мастер пейзажа и картин бытового жанра. Питер Брейгель Старший является основателем «крестьянского жанра», он создал многочисленные аллегорические композиции, связанные с народными пословицами и гуманистической культурой своего времени. Отец художников Питера Брейгеля Младшего и Яна Брейгеля Старшего.
