Сын Франса Пурбуса Старшего, Франс Младший учился у него живописи. В 1591 г. был принят в гильдию св. Луки в Антверпене. Затем Пурбус отправился через Брюссель в Италию, поступил там в придворные живописцы герцога Мантуанского. Наконец, он добрался до Парижа, где самой смерти работал при дворе Генриха Наваррского.
