As Chinese characters have over thousands of years' history, there have been developed many different versions of writing styles for each character.
So for a same Chinese character, it might be presented in many different appearances due to various writing styles. But which character writing style makes it look better is really up to readers' personal taste!
The most common calligraphic writing styles for Chinese character tattoos are shown as follows.
隸書 (Lee Shu) - The Clerical Script of Chinese Symbols (about 1100 years ago)
楷書 (Kai Shu) - The Standard Scripts of Chinese Handwriting (about 1000 years ago)
行書 (Shin Shu) - The Semi-Cursive Scripts (about 1500 years ago)
魏碑 (WeiBei) - The Engraved Scripts (about 1500 years ago)
宋體 (Song Ti) - The Song Scripts(about 800 years ago)
