“With us”, that is, the members of the English Theatrical Society and our stage-director Tatyana Alexandrovna Bogdanova. In 2006 our society marked its 17th anniversary (and the tradition of English theatre in our school dates back to 1975). Our stage has seen many different plays: “Pygmalion” by B. Shaw, “The Rivals” by R. B. Sheridan, “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde, a variety of plays by William Shakespeare. For ten years already we’ve been staging American musicals: our spectators have come to know and fallen in love with “Man of La Mancha” by Joe Darion and Mitch Lee, “Oklahoma”, “Carousel” and “The Sound of Music” by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, “Oliver” by Lionel Bart and many others.
As you understand by our name, we stage plays in English. Sometimes it’s hard, but nevertheless very interesting. We don’t have any special requirements as for how to join our society; however, the majority of our actors are the students of the 7-11th grades, because the actors’ language level is to be rather high. We try to organize our work by ourselves, that’s why every two years we elect a president and a vice-president, who work hard arranging the rehearsals’ schedule and coordinate the work of the other members: historians, costumiers, store-keepers and many others. Thus each actor can choose an occupation he likes in addition to acting: making costumes, being in charge of the sets and props etc. As a rule we release a new big performance every year, along with a minor production.
We feel warmly for our theatrical society and are very proud of it, so we want as many people as possible to hear about us and our activities.
