Против приезда Эминема, тексты речитативов которого переполнены сквернословием, гомофобными и женоненавистническими фразами, решительно возражала влиятельная Австралийская семейная ассоциация (Australian Family Association). Экранный дебют Эминема оказался гораздо лучше, чем можно было предположить. Слабо завуалированная история жизни самого Маршалла Мэтерса Третьего, "8 Mile", открыла в звезде хип-хопа отличного актера. Фильм, снятый обладателем "Оскара" Кертисом Хэнсоном, - это наполовину хип-хоп версия "Рокки", наполовину рэп-ремикс "Пурпурного дождя". Но только не мыльная опера.

Продюсер "8 Mile" Брайан Грейзер стал фанатом хип-хопа почти двадцать лет назад, когда впервые услышал порно-сюрреалистические тексты рэп-легенды Slick Rick.
