P!nk - New Single

Pink can't quite make up her mind. So, to help promote her forthcoming album, instead of just picking her first single and shooting a video for it, she's chosen two songs and shot videos for both, figuring that she'll decide later.

"We're getting down to the wire," she admitted. "I think there's a hole in the world right now and there's a certain thing that needs to fill it, but I just haven't decided which hole to fill."

Pink has picked two "completely different" songs to be the first thing you hear from I'm Not Dead. One is called "Stupid Girl," and the other is "You and Your Hand," a portion of which was leaked this summer on the Internet (see "Leaked Pink Songs Hint At A Rock-Heavy New Album"). Pink shot both clips with her longtime collaborator Dave Meyers, making "Stupid Girl" the eighth video they've done together. "Stupid Girl" spoofs the superficial young Hollywood set, but Pink's not disclosing exactly who her target is this time around.

"I don't think I need to name names," she said. "I live in L.A., so it's obvious what I'm surrounded by." She calls the clip "sick and twisted and insane," which in her book is a very good thing.

"I love making videos, and I love making videos with Dave Meyers," she said. "He just gets it. I like to be physical and do my own stunts, and he allows for that. He has an insane imagination. I don't think anyone ever stopped laughing during 'Stupid Girl.' I don't think everyone else is going to laugh, but just know that we all did."

Of course, doing her own stunts isn't without risk. Pink hurt herself a lot during the shoot, especially when she fell off a car, chipping a bone in her wrist and opening a gash on her leg. "It goes all the way up [my thigh]," she laughed. "Good times!"

Meanwhile, "You and Your Hand" — a spiteful sendoff to guys who get too friendly on the dance floor — goes in the opposite direction. "First of all, I didn't want it to be typical," she said. "Not another club video. That's not going to happen, until we can do it all suspended in the air on hovercrafts. It just won't be interesting."

She describes the character-driven clip as being more "high-fashion, glam, vampirey, tough [and] sexy." Whereas she kept busy doing stunts in "Stupid Girl," Pink spent the majority of her time during the "You and Your Hand" shoot getting dolled up. "It was four hours of makeup and one hour of shooting for every different look in the video," she said. "I'll never do it again, so enjoy it! Because it sucked."

Pink's first single — whichever one she picks — is due in January, with one of those two videos to follow. I'm Not Dead is due in late March or early April.

Pink
AKA Alecia Beth Moore

Born: 8-Sep-1979
Birthplace: Doylestown, PA

Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Bisexual
Occupation: Musician

Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Can't Take Me Home

Having been imbued since her birth with her parent's enthusiasm for the folk and soul music of the 60s and 70s, Pink (born Alecia Moore) acquired musical ambitions of her own at an early age. Her development as a performer followed an erratic course and encompassed a variety of styles: singing in all-black gospel choirs, fronting a local punk band, and providing back-up vocals for the rap group Schools of Thought - all by the age of 14. After one of her weekly guest appearances at Club Fever, she attracted the attention of a representative from MCA Records and was subsequently drafted into the otherwise all-black vocal act Basic Instnct. Her melanin deficiency became an issue with her bandmates, however, and before long she moved on to Choice, an R&B group who managed to arrange a recording deal with the LaFace label. In the meantime, Pink had dropped out of school and was supporting herself with the usual minimum-wage fast-food jobs.

Choice would dissolve before releasing any albums, but LaFace kept Pink on its roster as a solo artist. Under the direction of producer L. A. Reid she began work on her debut effort, Can't Take Me Home, which finally surfaced in 2000 after she had turned 19. A pastiche of popular styles, the album quickly achieved double-platinum status and launched three top ten singles, including the fiesty chick anthem Most Girls. Her popularity was to be boosted even further with her participation the following year in the film Moulin Rouge, performing a remake of the Labelle song Lady Marmalade alongside Missy Elliott, Christina Aguilera and Mya. The song would earn the young singer both her first number one single and her first Grammy award.

2001 would also see the release of her second album, M!ssundaztood. This time around Pink maintained a larger degree of control over the direction of the material, moving her style away from the R&B pop saturating the market and towards the punk-ish pop beginning to saturate the market. To this end she enlisted the help of one of her music idols, former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman Linda Perry. The sudden change in genre did nothing to slow the momentum of her career, and, fueled in part by the public's insatiable thirst for the celebrity personal confession in evidence on many tracks, M!ssundaztood went on to repeat the success of Can't Take Me Home.

Continuing with the film career established with Moulin Rouge, Pink made acting and soundtrack contributions to the big-budget Hollywood spectacles Rollerball (2002) and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003). A forthcoming role portraying doomed singer Janis Joplin is in the works.

Father: James Moore (Vietnam vet)
Mother: Judith
Boyfriend: Carey Hart (dating 2004, and some times previously)
