Бывший вокалист FAITH NO MORE и нынешний - команд FANTOMAS и TOMAHAWK - Майк Пэттон (Mike Patton) недавно сделал сенсационное признание в интервью East Bay Express.

PHILIP ANSELMO: 'DIMEBAG DARRELL Deserves To Be Beaten Severely' - Dec. 1, 2004
In a lengthy interview published in the "Xmas 2004" issue of Metal Hammer magazine, ex-PANTERA/curent SUPERJOINT RITUAL frontman Philip Anselmo spoke extensively about the breakup of his previous band and the status of all of his musical projects, among many other topics. Several excerpts from the interview follow:

On Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul's claim that Philip left PANTERA without telling them he was leaving:

"Well, they have phones as well. And they weren't communicating with me. Their way of communication was through, so they would send their errand girl to call me up and see where my head was at. Now that was pretty offensive, so I didn't play that game, and time passed. And I don't let time pass, I have to do something, I can't sit on my ass and just do nothing, I have to do something, and it must be musical. When I don't use my gift I become defunct and I become clumsy and I become useless. It's a terrible feeling to be that vulnerable.

"When you use your gift, you're on top of the world. You feel worth something, you know? You feel that you've done something, and you have, you've created. I've done that with many, many, many bands on my own time, and I was always there whenever PANTERA called to do the next record, the next tour, whatever it took, and I was always 100% there."

On what went wrong with PANTERA:

"Through devotion to and scheduling with PANTERA, a lot of things got pushed to the side — and the incarnation of other great bands like DOWN which I was part of took a lot of time and whatnot. Everything has its turn, and when it was SUPERJOINT RITUAL's turn, I felt at the time that PANTERA had done its greatest tour we'd ever done, which was with SLAYER and MORBID ANGEL in the United States. We were in Ireland when the 9/11 terrorist attacks took place in New York. We were stuck there for seven or eight days and the tour was called off because of the turbulence. After that it seemed there was a great… distancing.

"I think, more or less, it lies between Dimebag and I. There was never a point when he could not get drunk. Which was pretty much every day. And now I'm hearing it's worse than ever.

"He would attack me, vocally. And just knowing that he was so much smaller than me I could kill him like a fuckin' piece of vapor, you know, he would turn into vapor — his chin would, at least, if I fuckin' smacked it. And he knows that. The world should know that. So physically, of course, he deserves to be beaten severely.

"But of course, that's criminal and I won't do such a thing… Really, I just let him prattle on. I grew very tired of it very quickly, and whenever it came up, like it has come up today, I just chose to wish them the best of luck. And in all honesty I really wish that they would be men, which is very hard for them, figuring that they were living in their mother's house until they're 30 years old. In comparison, I was on the street by choice at the age of 15, living anywhere I could — but living, and successfully living, through my will."

On what it was that caused his friendship with Dimebag Darrell to turn sour:

"I think that there's a lot inside of Darrell… from what I've seen of Dimebag in the past, he had some great tragedy in his family, and of course that's Vinnie's family as well. I don't think that they were ever given or ever allowed time to really heal from that. The anger and the hatred and the drunken nights of just screaming in my face, with me sitting there taking it and holding both of my hands just to not hit the guy… I grew weary

DIMEBAG DARRELL Says PHILIP ANSELMO And REX BROWN Took PANTERA For Granted - Nov. 14, 2004
DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Dimebag Darrell (ex-PANTERA) recently spoke to SMNnews.com about the group's upcoming second album, the possibility of a PANTERA reunion and Dimebag's plans to record a guitar album with Zakk Wylde (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and Kerry King (SLAYER). Several excerpts from the interview follow:

On the upcoming DAMAGEPLAN album:

Dimebag Darrell: "Well, dude, our first record kinda goes all the way out to left field and covers a spectrum of everything. Now we've been out for while, been over the world, people are digging what we are doing, we're going back to the old school. We aren't gonna hide our fuckin' influences, and our sound. We just wanted people to know it's not PANTERA. Next time we are gonna be blatant about Vinnie and Dime and the drums and the guitars. It's gonna be a thorough ass-kickin', and extremely brutal."

SMNnews.com: Yourself and Vinnie [Paul, drums] have written everything from ballads to all out thrash... how important is musical creativity to you now and what direction do you see DAMAGEPLAN going in the future since you've now established yourselves and have seen what works, and what doesn't?

Dimebag Darrell: "Well, we never wanted to limit ourselves with DAMAGEPLAN, that's why we went for the broad spectrum. We do have a wide variety of influences. There's enough bands out there that sound the same, and most can only do what they do, whether it's thrash, or it's just ONE thing, we are musicians, we won't put that behind us. We will express the musical and melody side of things, going more BRUTAL this time. I'm glad to let it all hang out [laugh] — crank that fucker!"

SMNnews.com: Now, as an obvious fan, and lover of everything PANTERA has done, and you lads as individuals have done, for the fans, say in the next few years, could you ever forseeably see a PANTERA reunion? Not now, but if the time, and money was right, say, five years down the road, what do you say to that?

Dimebag Darrell: "No way. Not for the money, not for the time, not for nothing man. The fucking people gotta get over it. I'm not Nostradamus, I can't even tell ya what will happen tomorrow, and all that shit is definitely hypothetical. I'm not broke or anything, I'm not doing it for time or money — none of that fuckin' bullshit. Shit, I mean the way things went down were just so fuckin' sour."

SMNnews.com: I've read so much bullshit about someone saying this, and someone saying that, and I find it incredibly hard to believe that what I read is absolute truth. In 100% truth, reality, and honesty if you could send out a message to Phil [Anselmo, former PANTERA singer] and the fans that says what you want it to say, with the guarantee it will get press word for word and verbatim, what would it be?

Dimebag Darrell: "Yeah, man. I totally agree with ya on that bullshit thing, it's so true. But for a message… It would be, Vinnie Paul and Dime Darrel never ever, EVER turned our backs on the PANTERA fans, we planned on PANTERA lasting a lifetime and we were there 150% of the time. No side projects, nothing BUT PANTERA, every fuckin' day and night, and the other two dudes took it for granted and walked away, and left us in the cold, left us hangin', and left the fans hangin'. I ain't biting off at the other dudes, but just have the common courtesy to call us and my brother and tell us that you are trying to do bigger things than PANTERA or whatever, that you

PHILIP ANSELMO: SUPERJOINT RITUAL Is Not A Precursor To A PANTERA Reunion - Aug. 2, 2004
In a brand-new interview with the East Valley Tribune, former PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo has once again reiterated that SUPERJOINT RITUAL is his priority.

"I just want people to realize that this is a (expletive) real band," he said. "I don't want them to think we're just going to disappear and be this precursor to a PANTERA reunion tour or something like that. It's not what I’m doing at all. It's the furthest from my (bleeping) imagination."

Anselmo says that he feels PANTERA accomplished everything he could have hoped for.

"You've got to understand, our third record was No. 1 on the (expletive) Billboard Top 200," he said. "‘We had six platinum records. For God's sake, maybe I'm just not the type to be asking for that much, but I think we more than enough gave a lot of ourselves and we were always, always loyal to the (expletive) fan base."

PHILIP ANSELMO: 'PANTERA Is Dead' - July 16, 2004
Ben Ratliff of The New York Times is reporting that SUPERJOINT RITUAL, a raw, sloppy hardcore punk band led by former PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo, is on a quixotic mission to convince the world that his new group is better than his old one.

"The exercise is both fun and enervating to watch; it involves a lot of heckling, from the audience and the stage," Ratliff writes. "At one point during the band's Ozzfest set [at the Jones Beach Amphitheater Wednesday evening (July 14)], his back turned to the crowd, after spitting out a mouthful of water, Mr. Anselmo blankly said the unsayable: 'PANTERA's dead.' Nobody liked hearing this.

" 'SUPERJOINT RITUAL are the most dangerous band out there, period!' he seethed. 'We're anti-image; we're anti-everything. All we have is our music. And me.' "

SUPERJOINT RITUAL's latest CD, "A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred" (2003), has sold 99,302 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its predecessor, 2002's "Use Once And Destroy", has shifted 107,305 units so far.

Ex-PANTERA Drummer VINNIE PAUL: REX BROWN Got The Biggest Free Ride Of Anyone - June 3, 2004
Ex-PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul recently gave a lengthy interview to KNAC.com about the break-up of his previous group and the formation of DAMAGAPLAN. What follows are some of the highlights of that discussion:

KNAC.COM: There was an incident that wasn't very widely reported that concerned you and Dimebag at Ozzfest a couple of years ago in Dallas. Rumor had it that [former PANTERA singer] Phil [Anselmo] instructed the head of his security, a guy named Big Val, to escort both of you out.

Vinnie Paul: "We never got escorted out. Dallas is our hometown, and obviously Big Val worked for us in the past, but we had a falling out with him and hadn't really spoken to him. The truth of the matter is — I’ll tell you exactly what happened — I was going to the front of the house to watch Ozzy. I hadn't seen Big Val all day long or anything. I was walking along, and I had my girlfriend with me at the time, and I saw him and went to wave at him — then the dude just leveled me with one shove. I was there on my ass in front of 20,000 people walking out to see Ozzy. He just kept going, you know. My security guard at the time found out about it, and him and Val exchanged words. It never really went any further than that. I let it go. It's no big deal. I don't harbor any grudges or any hard feelings towards the dude or anything."

KNAC.COM: How weird was it to have some guy [Phil] that you see and work with every single day all of a sudden no longer want contact with you? So much so in fact that you have to go through six or seven people just to try to get a hold of him? Was it just like a divorce?

Vinnie Paul: "Of course it is. We were four people who were married to each other for close to twenty years. For the communication level to go to zero for no reason and for everything to go from 'us against them' just didn't make any sense. Still to this day, if people want to know why PANTERA broke up….there is no real reason. There wasn't one big argument. There wasn't somebody fucking somebody else's girl — there was nothing like that. We played our last show in Tokyo, Japan and we killed. Everybody high fived and said, 'We'll see each other in six or eight months.' The next thing you know, I'm getting a phone call that Phil has quit the band and he's doing DOWN now. This was the start of it all. Like I said, there was a phone call from [ex-PANTERA bassist] Rex [Brown] that he made to Dime one night completely lambasting everything I did for PANTERA, everything Dime did for PANTERA and everything we did as a band. Where the fuck did this come from? He got the biggest free ride of anyone in this motherfucker."

KNAC.COM: Do you think [Phil] finds it easier to work with bands that aren’t comprised of equals? It's pretty obvious that in these other groups that he is the undisputed focal point and probably doesn't have to justify very much.

Vinnie Paul: "Without a doubt, he tells every one of them dudes exactly where to shit and what to do and how to do it. Without a doubt, every one of them would lick his balls until it felt nice and good to 'em. There you go, and that's the fuckin' truth. That's not the way it worked in PANTERA. Everybody had their say, and we all fought for what we thought was the right thing for the band. That's why it had the chemistry that it had."

KNAC.COM: Does the creativity suffer the majority of time when an artist limits the amount of collaboration in a given project?

Vinnie Paul: "There's

DIMEBAG DARRELL: 'Me And VINNIE Were The Heart And Soul Of PANTERA' - May 27, 2004
In a recent interview with Digital Noise, DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Dimebag Darrell (ex-PANTERA) was asked to comment on Philip Anselmo's statement that the fact that he has the utmost freedom to create any way he chooses in his new band, SUPERJOINT RITUAL, contributed to his decision to leave PANTERA. "Dude. I'll tell you this, dude. It's not a musical thing really that is why that dude took off and left. It's not, dude," Dimebag said. "I can't even begin to put a finger on it. I know some shit that nobody fucking knows. Look, dude: When you're a brother with somebody for 12 fucking years, and you do everything in the fucking world together, and you build this band from nothing to what it is and what-not, and then you just up and just don't want to be around those people all of a sudden... There's some weird reason floating around. It goes even further than egos or something like that. I can't even... I don't really want to get into it. This whole thing needs to come to rest, period. It's not just a musical thing. It could be anything from fucking addictions to anything you can fucking dream up. Me and [brother] Vinnie have a fucking standard level. When somebody feels paranoid or something to be around somebody that knows... When you know one of your brothers are gonna tell you the straight truth and you don't wanna have to face it and you run from it... That's all I gotta say about it. You can build your own conclusion. There's nothing that PANTERA incompetent of doing musically, period. There's nothing that we can't do at all … or that we couldn't do, or that me and Vinnie couldn't do. So whatever."

Asked if he and his brother Vinnie feel a sense of relief now that PANTERA is put to bed and they're being successful with their next project, Dimebag said, "Man, you know... I'll tell you this, dude. Me and Vinnie were the heart and soul of PANTERA. You watch the fucking home videos. You see who's driving the fucking thing, who's the fucking life of the fucking party and who's the hell-raisers. Me and Vinnie never had a problem with any fucking band in this business. We don't care. If it's not our cup of tea, not our style of music, it doesn't matter. It doesn't mean those are uncool people. In [Phil's] situation he sees that in a different way. He chooses to attack anything that he doesn't like and he chooses to try to degrade anything that's not his way and then once you agree and try to go his way with hit, then all of a sudden you're ripping him off. It's a no-win situation. Yeah, it's a weight lifted off our shoulders. The cat used to never be that way. He's [gone] through some definite changes through his life. I damn sure don't know who the dude is now. Even though I'd been with the dude for 12 years. So there you go — go figure. It's not the Phil I know from way back in the day. And, dude, when some dude just up and just won't let you get in contact with him at all, and dude, this is coming on three years that he's stayed completely out of contact with him by his choice, there's something... something's funky. You know what I mean?"

PHILIP ANSELMO: I Love Everybody In PANTERA - May 16, 2004
Despite an official press release hyping SUPERJOINT RITUAL's appearance on this weekend's episode of "Headbanger's Ball" as an opportunity for SJR frontman Philip Anselmo to finally "set the record straight about PANTERA," Philip spoke only briefly about his former group while introducing the last video of the night, PANTERA's "Psycho Holiday". Anselmo's exact words on the air prior to closing out last night's show were as follows: "There is time for one more video, and surprisingly, to some of you, this is PANTERA. And I'd like to tell everybody, for once and for all — this is the last time I'm gonna say it... I love everybody in that band, I hold no grudge. They are extremely talented musicians, very very very likeable people, and they had to do their thing, we had to do ours. And this is PANTERA 'Psycho Holiday'. Thank you very much."

December 8 marks the one-year anniversary of one of the most grim and bizarre tragedies in music history — the onstage shooting death of Pantera and Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. In the past year, friends and fans have talked at length about Dime's influence and spirit, but the man who knew him best — his brother and bandmate Vinnie Paul — has been largely silent. Recently, however, Vinnie sat down with MTV News' Robert Mancini for his first on-camera interview since losing his brother. He recalled a different side of a true metal giant, and helped to remember the talent and the kindness that was Dime as fans mark the anniversary of his death.

See excerpts from the Vinnie Paul interview in Overdrive

MTV: Let's start out by kind of going back and talking about making music with Dimebag. Do you remember the first time you guys actually got together in a room and made music together? You're the big brother, you're playing drums, he wants to play drums but he can't, so he picks up the guitar ...

Vinnie Paul: It was kind of the old Eddie and Alex Van Halen story. My dad got us a drum set. We both started playing, and I got better than Dime and just started hogging the drum set. He couldn't play it anymore, so he went to my dad and said, "I need a guitar, man. I want to play guitar. Vinnie's got the drums down." I used to walk by his room all the time and see him standing in front of the mirror, holding it, and then I'd come by and he'd have his Ace Frehley makeup on and he'd be standing there holding it. I walked by one day and I said, "Man, are you ever gonna learn how to play that thing?" He goes, "Yeah, man, I'll be over there next week." So I'm over there rocking out with my Kiss records and all this stuff, and he comes over and he goes, "You wanna jam?" and I said, "You know how to play that

Offspring, Metallica, Powerman 5000. Vulgar Display of Power. You are in a better place brother. Shred in peace.
