CFP: 2nd Annual Women of Color Mixed Heritage Ethnicity Race Conference мусорка 29-03-2005 18:18

Dear Colleagues,
Please distribute this Call for Papers, and excuse cross-postings.
Thank you.
Peace, Summer

Second Annual
Women of Color Mixed H/E/R (Heritage, Ethnicity, Race) Conference
Shifting Terrain: The Politics and Poetics of the Body

The WOC Mixed H/ER conference committee invites proposals of papers,
panels, roundtables, forums, art/performance works, and workshops on
themes related to POLITICS AND POETICS OF THE BODY. Again, we have chosen a theme to address and provoke discussion on essential and often under represented issues concerning women's diasporically constructed identities and experiences from the local to the global. It is our aim to recognize,
examine and celebrate our identities in academic, community, artistic and spiritual discourse.

At the second annual conference in Albuquerque on October 22, 2005, we
will engage and acknowledge the complexity of our identities as Women of
Color Mixed H/E/R, from all age groups. We will examine how these identities
inform our physical and socially constructed presences in society at large.
We welcome proposals that discuss, present and engage all aspects of
Women of Color Mixed H/E/R identities and their constructions.
We also welcome innovative/non-conventional approaches to addressing
identities of Women of Color Mixed H/E/R.

Possible topics (not exhaustive by any means)

UPDATE: Excess and Scarcity (3/31/05; SAMLA, 11/4/05-11/6/05) мусорка 29-03-2005 18:15

note: the update includes a new deadline (31 March 2005) and sample
topics.
*------------------------------------
Literary Criticism Discussion Circle: "Excess and Scarcity"
South Atlantic Modern Language Association
Atlanta, GA
4-6 November 2005

This panel will explore literary, cultural, historical, and theoretical analyses of
sites subject to the vicissitudes of excess and scarcity. What constitutes and who defines the boundary between excess and scarcity? Are they necessarily
opposed or can they be coincident? What territories do they map? What historical and political interests determine acceptable levels of them?

Examples include but are not limited to sites where the extremes of excess
and scarcity are very apparent and highly contingent (say upon location or
class):
-Issues of food (industries and discourses of weight, nutrition, breast
feeding, etc.)
-Drugs and medicine (for instance, where resources are allocated to
treatment of relatively benign conditions for a Northern market instead of deadly
diseases plaguing the impoverished global South)
-Love and sex

Inquiries and one-page abstracts should be directed to Patricia Ventura
at trish.ventura@lcc.gatech.edu or Ed Chan at echan@kennesaw.edu by 31
March 2005.

The Literary Criticism Discussion Circle sponsors an annual panel at SAMLA. Those accepted for the panel will need to join SAMLA by 1 July 2005.
Information regarding the conference and SAMLA is available at www.samla.org.
