Call for Papers for New York College English Association (NYCEA)
sponsored Panels at the 2006 College English Association (CEA)
Conference
San Antonio, Texas--April 6--April 8, 2006

You are invited to submit paper proposals for NYCEA sponsored panels at the College English Association (CEA) Conference to be held in San Antonio, Texas. CEA is the national, parent organization of the NYCEA and other regional CEA affiliates.

We welcome submissions of NYCEA papers presented previously on the following NYCEA Conference theme, or new submissions on the topic of this special session call: "Cartographies: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Language and Literature"

We also welcome full panel proposals fitting the above panel topic.

It is our desire to be able to field at CEA a number of panels on the above NYCEA conference theme; it is our intent to create a subset of scholarly communities, arising out of the NYCEA affiliate, within the larger CEA conference community.

CEA is a wonderful organization and its conference has always celebrated
scholarly activity in many forms: papers on traditional literary criticism, on writing theory, and on writing and literary teaching pedagogies as they relate to the conference themes.

For each NYCEA sponsored panel, there will be three to four papers; papers must be no more than 15 minutes in reading length.

The submission requirements are as follow:

1) Proposals of 500 words for the NYCEA-sponsored-CEA panels on "Cartographies: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Language and Literature"
MUST BE POSTMARKED OR EMAILED BY 15 OCTOBER 2005 to Lauren De La Vars at
the contact information below.

2) Notification of acceptance by the NYCEA will be made soon after the 15 October deadline. The proposed NYCEA panels will then be submitted to
CEA by its deadline of 1 November 2005. Submitters will then be notified
of CEA's acceptance of the panels by 5 December 2005.

3) All presenters must be paid (U. S. currency) members of CEA by 1 January 2006.***

Proposal submissions for NYCEA-sponsored-CEA panel formats must
include:

1) Phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and mailing address;
2) Your name & affiliation as you want it to appear in the conference program;
3) A description of content and method, with attention to how the topic addresses the "Cartographies: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Language and Literature" theme and focus of the panel.
4) Title of the paper as you would want it to appear in the conference program.
5) A-V equipment needs, if any.
6) Special needs, if any.

All presenters please note:

1) CEA Membership is required (conference registration material will arrive later in January, BUT CEA membership must be paid by January 1, 2006).***
2) Only one paper proposal per person for one panel will be accepted.
3) Participants must present their accepted paper (others cannot attend for you and present your paper)
3) Neither NYCEA nor CEA can fund travel or participant costs.

Наша общественная правозащитная организация <Дом мира и ненасилия> выпустила книгу <Первая помощь при насилии>, переведенную с нидерландского языка в рамках проекта <Мир в классе>. Это был совместный проект общественной организации <Пакс Кристи Фландрии> (Pax Christi Vlaanderen) -Бельгия- и Санкт-Петербургской общественной правозащитной
организации <Дом мира и ненасилия>, финансируемый Министерством
иностранных дел Бельгии.

Книга посвящена формированию привязанности у детей, воспитанию миролюбия, воспитанию школьников в многокультуральном пространстве, демократизации школы. В ней содержится также практический материал, который учителя могут использовать на уроках.

Издание предназначено родителям, воспитателям детских дошкольных
учреждений, учителям школ, общественным организациям, занимающихся неформальным образованием.

Уважаемые коллеги,

срок номинации текстов на конкурс "Гендерные штудии-2005" на лучший
текст по гендерным исследованиям продлен до 15 апреля. Жюри заинтересовано в получении максимально репрезентативной выборки и призывает колллег-исследователей и "читателей" (или почитаталей) сообщить секретарю конкурса об известных вам значимых публикациях. Выдвижение текстов (книг, фильмов, рекламных роликов и т.д.) на различные премии обычно проходит через номинирование первичного множества "сознательными членами сообщества".
Таким образом профессиональное сообщество активно участвует в процессе премирования, осуществляя начальный отбор. Кроме того, члены жюри просто не могут знать обо всех публикациях, тем более, если они появились в нецентральных или малотиражных изданиях.
Мы же хотем сделать конкурс возможно более открытым и демократичным, как сделав видимой работу авторов, находящихся вне центра (который виден уже самим фактов того, что является центром), так и пригласив к участию в отборе коллег.

CFP: Feminist Perspectives on the Renaissance (4/1/05; RMMLA, 10/20/05-10/22/05)

We have extended the deadline for this session to April 1. The papers
will be presented at the Rocky Mountain MLA convention, October 20-22, 2005,
in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. We have room for up to three more presenters for
FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES ON THE RENAISSANCE. We are very flexible-both
British and continental topics, including comparative approaches. Those whose
abstracts are accepted must join the RMMLA and commit to the October

Hello everyone,
I'm currently working on the spring issue of On Campus With Women
(OCWW) and am asking for your recommendations and/or submissions. I hope that you will also recommend your colleagues and pass this announcement on
to others. For those who are unfamiliar with OCWW, it is an online
quarterly newsletter published by the Association of American Colleges
and Universities that is devoted to exploring topics, issues, and
perspectives related to gender and higher education. It can be found
at http://www.aacu.org/ocww.

The theme for the upcoming issue is Sexual and Gender Identity, Student
Learning, and Inclusive Campuses (working title). Within this theme,
we are particularly interested in a few different strands (though we
welcome your input and suggestions about topics of interest and
importance), which are outlined below. The topic of sexual and gender
identity on college and university campuses is admittedly quite broad,
but we want to be sure to include a wide cross-section of voices,
perspectives, and resources.

College and university campuses, classrooms, and residential areas, as
with many (if not most) other spaces, are often unsafe and unwelcoming
for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning)
students, staff, and faculty. Particularly as many young people are
coming out and/or questioning earlier and earlier, and becoming
politically active in secondary school, colleges are often seen as
failing to keep up. There is frequently a sense of, "those students/staff/faculty aren't my responsibility" or "heterosexism and homophobia aren't my problem." OCWW would like to address the need to shift this thinking to the acknowledgment that supporting LGBTQ students, staff, and faculty is everyone's responsibility and that heterosexism and homophobia are everyone's problem. The question then becomes not whether to do it, but how to do it.

Here are a few sub-strands we're interested in exploring:

* How do you respectfully and substantively negotiate LGBTQ
issues, concerns, and identities on campuses with strong religious
affiliations (when the aim is to create a safe and inclusive campus)?
* Explicating connections between homophobia and heterosexism and
sexism (and other forms of oppression). How are they mutually
reinforcing?
* LGBTQ within ethnic and area studies
* How to, or whether to, include LGBTQ readings/topics/etc. on
syllabi, in the classroom
* Retention and LGBTQ students (and staff and faculty)
* LGBTQ centers, non-discrimination clauses addressing sexual and
gender identity, mission statements, and other policy initiatives that
colleges may undertake
* Review of the scholarship

OCWW invites articles that address the concerns laid out in the third
paragraph, as well any of the bulleted points.

>From Where I Sit

This section of OCWW publishes short essays (1000-1200 words) based on
each writer's experience with the topic at hand. Authors for this section need not necessarily have a background in research or scholarship related to the topic. For this issue, we would like to include essays from people (students, faculty, staff) who are willing to share their experiences with sexual and gender identity and higher education, either as those who identify as LGBTQ or as allies, and any strategies and resources they have. We invite contributors writing from a range of perspectives.

Feature

The feature essay(s) (2000-3000 words) for this issue should offer a broader perspective on sexual and gender identity on college campuses, drawing on empirical and/or theoretical studies and analysis. Further, it/they should offer strategies for negotiating these issues and concerns on both individual and institutional levels. Ideally, the author(s) of this/these essay(s) should have a background in research or scholarship related to this topic.
