Dear Friends and Colleagues,
A highly regarded university press has expressed an interest in the development of an anthology on Race, Technology and the Environment (REVTech). The REVTech anthology would contain a maximum of twenty original essays (6000 to 7000 words per essay) focused on North American

Race for this anthology is broadly defined and includes but is not limited to American communities of African, Arab, Asian, Latino, Native American and European (particularly those who have long term histories of environmental marginalization) descent. The goal of the REVTech anthology is to make a rigorous attempt to provide answers to the following questions:

Natural Subjectivity: The Textual Making of the Human or Natural Subject мусорка 27-11-2005 04:23

[NIS_GS:] CFP: Natural Subjectivity: The Textual Making of the Human or Natural Subject (11/30/05; ACLA, 3/23/06-3/26/06)
CFP for a panel atthe next ACLA (American Compartive Literature Association Annual Meeting to take place on March 23-26, 2006, at Princeton University.
Title: Natural Subjectivity: The Textual Making of the Human or Natural Subject
Description: This panel seeks to explore the textual constructing of Human, Animal, and/or environmental Subjectivity in relation to each other.
Papers from any theoretical approach will be welcome, especially from: Ecological Criticism, Gender, Postcolonial, Ethnic, Subaltern Studies, Philosophical, or Psychoanalytical perspectives. Different definitions of Subjectivity are also welcome. Though the object of study can be any text/s, fiction
or not, belonging to any period or tradition, the paper should focus on the way the text constitutes the subject (Human, Animal, Env.).
It should seek to answer these or similar questions:
1) How is the Subject constituted within the text on a formal, structural or aesthetic level?
2) Is there any Subjectivity achieved outside the text?
3) Is this a speaking subject? Who is s/he speaking to? What are the consequences of this speech? Is any kind of agency attained through this speech?
4) What is the relationship between the Subjective and the Objective world?
5) What is Subjectivity? What is its relation to the environment? Does Subjectivity necessarily imply consciousness and agency?
6) What are some moral consequences of subjectivity?

Clothing as Boundary in the Works of Virginia Woolf (UK) (12/10/05; 6/22/06-6/25/06) мусорка 27-11-2005 04:00

[NIS_GS:] CFP: Clothing as Boundary in the Works of Virginia Woolf (UK) (12/10/05; 6/22/06-6/25/06)

16th Annual Conference on Virginia Woolf
Call for Panel Submissions: "Clothing as Boundary"

We are accepting proposals to complete a panel on Virginia Woolf and clothing currently titled "Clothing as Boundary in the Works of Virginia Woolf." Of special interest to us is how clothing thematizes limits/boundaries or examines the intersection of clothing/boundary in terms of barriers and limits both IN and OF Woolf's work.

We invite papers involving Woolf's own exploration of clothing not only in terms of symbol and substance (or matter and metaphor), but also clothing as physical, psychological and ideological boundary between individuals or groups that can be-or fail to be-negotiated. In keeping with this year's conference themes, we invite paper proposals that analyze Woolf's use of "clothing as boundary" in relation to: a) the present and the past, b) genders and sexualities, c) modernity and tradition, d) the metropolis and the region, e) nationhood and patriotism, f) war and colonialism, g) social class and race, h) the elite and the common, i) urban and rural, j) insiders and outsiders, k) industrialization and work, l) women and men, or, m) any intersection[s] of the above.

Please email one copy of a 250 word proposal and a short bio paragraph to Randi Synnove Koppen [Randi.Koppen@eng.uib.no]and Catherine R.
Mintler [cmintler@unr.edu] by December 10th. The deadline for panel
proposals to be submitted is January 4th, 2006.

6th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DIVERSITY IN ORGANISATIONS, COMMUNITIES AND NATIONS мусорка 27-11-2005 03:50

[NIS_GS:] Call for Papers - Diversity Conference, New Orleans, 12-15 June 2006

Dear Colleague,
We are writing on behalf of the Organising Committee, to inform you of the call for papers for the:
6th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DIVERSITY IN ORGANISATIONS, COMMUNITIES AND NATIONS
New Orleans, USA, 12-15 June 2006
http://www.Diversity-Conference.com

The concerns of this conference - Human Rights, Diversity and Social Justice - loom larger than ever in the light of the terrible events surrounding Hurricane Katrina. In addition to its usual global concern
for the dynamics of diversity, the conference will include a specific focus on New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. Main speakers will include leading thinkers in the field, and these will be supported by paper, workshop and colloquium presentations by researchers and practitioners.

We would particularly like to invite you to respond to the conference call for papers. Presenters may choose to submit written papers for consideration before or after the conference in the fully refereed
International Journal of Diversity in Organisations, Communities and Nations. If you are unable to attend the conference in person, virtual registrations are also available which allow you to submit a paper for
refereeing and possible publication in the journal, and give you access to the electronic version of the journal.

The deadline for the next round in the call for papers (a title and short abstract) is 15 December 2005. Proposals are reviewed within four weeks of submission.

Following the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina on the city of New Orleans, we have had to change the venue of the conference to the Sheraton Hotel, the first hotel to become fully operational in New Orleans after the hurricane. The conference was originally going to be held at Xavier University, an historically black institution and seriously damaged by the hurricane. Although the university plans to reopen in January 2006, we could not be certain that it would be available for the conference by June.

We would also like to remind you of the Diversity Symposium to be held in Melbourne this coming 7-8 December 2005 which will focus on 'intersectional' issues of gender and culture. A limited number of
presentation and registration opportunities are still available at this symposium.

Details of both the New Orleans conference and the Melbourne Symposium, including an online call for papers form, are to be found at the above website.

Yours Sincerely,

Dr. Joe Melcher
Xavier University of New Orleans, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

Dr Denise Egea-Kuehne
