For over 10 years now, the U.S. Government has refused to pay me my social security old-age benefits.
This refusal is in direct violation of the U.S. Law on Social Security, which contains no political qualifications for receiving one's old-age benefits. These actions are in violation of the U.S. Constitution (14th Amendment), which forbids the government to deprive an individual of his property “without due process of law.”
The U.S. Government's Social Security Administration has acknowledged that I meet all the qualifications to receive my old-age benefits and that I have filled out and submitted all the required forms.
In spite of my repeated requests, neither the Social Security Administration nor the U.S. Embassy in Moscow nor anyone else in the U.S. Government has provided an “explanation” as to why I am being denied my social security benefits.
My old-age benefits are not a gift. They derive from the substantial sums that were deducted – directly and indirectly – from my paychecks during all the years I lived and worked in the U.S.
What is happening is a case of out-and-out thievery.
The U.S. Government blatantly violated my human, legal and constitutional rights by conducting a terror campaign that forced me to leave my country and obtain political exile abroad.. For over a decade, this same Government has further violated my rights by stealing my Social Security old-age benefits.
All this proves once again that the only law that counts in the United States of America is the Law of the Jungle.

За более 10 лет Правительство США отказывается в выплате причитающейся мне пенсии по старости.
Такой отказ прямо нарушает Закон США о социальном обеспечении (Social Security Law), который не предусматривает каких-либо политических ограничений или требований для получения пенсии по старости. Такое действие также грубо нарушает самую Конституцию США, где указано, что государство «не может лишить какое-либо лицо жизни, свободы или собственности без надлежащей правовой процедуры либо отказать какому-либо лицу в пределах своей юрисдикции в равной защите закона”.
Администрация социального обеспечения США (Social Security Administration) призналась, что я имею полное право на пенсию по старости и то, что я заполнил и отправил все необходимые анкеты по данному вопросу.
Несмотря на мои многочисленные обращения ни Администрация социального обеспечения, ни Посольство США в России, ни какое-либо другое правительственное учреждение не «объяснило», почему я не могу получить свою американскую пенсию по старости.
Такая пенсия - не подарок! В течение многих лет, когда я жил и работал в США, правительство удерживало значительные суммы — непосредственно и косвенно — из моей зарплаты.
То, что происходит — открытое воровство.
Правительство США грубо нарушало мое право человека, и также мои законные и конституционные права, при проведении кампании террора против меня, которая заставила меня покинуть свою родину и получить политические убежище за границей. The Captive US Labor Movement
“In 2013 there were 14.5 million members in the U.S., compared with 17.7 million in 1983. In 2013, the percentage of workers belonging to a union in the United States (or total labor union "density") was 11.3%, compared to 20.1% in 1983... Even these extremely low numbers may be an over-estimate. Anyone familiar with life in the United States is aware of the virtually total passivity of the AFL-CIO, the main US labor federation, and the other national unions in the face of the increasing hardships of many tens of millions of American workers, their decreased pay and harsh living conditions. With the partial exception of some government workers, virtually no trade union organizing has taken place in the US for years. For all intents and purposes, the national trade union leadership remains effectively silent on social issues and about the enormous plundering by the major banks and financial houses.
These disgusting facts of life are clear evidence of the control of the US labor movement by the United States secret political police.

Why Would The US Secret Political Police Set Up Its Own “Opposition”?
At first glance, it might seem counter-productive, even absurd for the US government and its secret political police to spend whopping funds and devote considerable energy sponsoring and promoting organizations and movements opposed to US policies, even opposition to the US political-economic system itself. Not at all “absurd.” One should note that psychological warfare operations are frequently counter-intuitive, that is they often go against what good old “common sense” would suggest.
A closer examination shows that the promotion of a vast and variegated fake internal “opposition” is entirely appropriate and in fact vital for the dominant ruling class. For several important reasons:
To begin with, genuine popular opposition to imperialist policies can and often does arise spontaneously in response to poverty, racism, exploitation, unjust wars, police brutality, official lies, etc. If the ruling class, acting through its repressive organs, did nothing or only overtly oppressed and jailed or killed activists, genuine movements for progressive and eventually revolutionary change could become massive. Moreover, with the growth of genuine mass movements, progressive and genuine revolutionary ideology would be liable to develop with striking force.
It is far, far, far better for the reactionary US (and not only the US!) ruling class to organize a manifold variety of fake movements which the secret political police entirely control. A great deal of noise and “furor” can be generated, but nothing permanent or meaningful develops. And the “movements” can be turned off when needed.
Secondly, such massive fakery serves to entrap unsuspecting honest activists, who find themselves not among comrades-in-struggle, but among disguised enemy. Such activists can then be assiduously followed and attacked, as I was when I was a member of the phony “Communist Party USA.”
Moreover, a plethora of false “peoples'” or “progressive” or “communist” organizations and movements give the abjectly phony perception of the United States of America as a “democracy.” “See we have our protest movements. Everyone is 'free to do their thing'” in the false democracy of dictatorial USA.
We saw the fruits of this approach in the phony “Occupy Wall Street” “movement” that gained tremendous publicity in the US a couple of years ago. This was a fake FBI-organized psychological warfare operation, ostensibly directed against the terrible economic hardships of tens and tens and tens of millions of Americans while the biggest financial houses, banks and speculators reap vast amounts of government Federal Reserve monies and ill-gotten gains. The “movement” made unrealizable demands, garnered loud attention and ended up jousting with the police and accomplishing absolutely nothing.
It cannot be excluded that honest people, incensed over the great injustices of US society, also were attracted to this “movement.” But that, after all, is an important part of the game. The US secret political police needs to identify them, discourage them, intimidate them, persecute and terrorize them.

Advantages of Being an Accomplice of the US Secret Political Police
Fake FBI etc. communists, environmentalists, womens' and civil rights activists, etc. and other accomplices are not motivated by phony “patriotism” alone. There are lots of rewards.
In Houston, Texas, I worked at the Stehlin Foundation (now the Christus Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research) from 1980 to 1986, when I was abruptly fired on FBI orders (see “Silent Terror” https://arnoldlockshin.wordpress.com/).
The Stehlin Foundation was what is termed an “asset” of the massive US lie, spy, criminal, provocation, subversion and regime change, terror, drug-runnning, torture and mass murder apparatus. That is, it carried out (in this case) normal operations of cancer research while simultaneously operating as a tool of the US secret political police.
Students at the Foundation who were selected to do the drudge work in the laboratory were themselves committed to the US political police. While I was there, about 10 of these students applied for medical school. Acceptance into medical school was very difficult and desirable, as physicians were generally able to obtain high incomes; in Texas, about one in ten applicants was successful. All of Stehlin's students, however, got in! An event, if it occurred spontaneously was equivalent to one chance in ten to the tenth power, or one chance in ten billion. Obviously, there was nothing spontaneous about this “selection” process. The committed FBI stooges were given their stepping stone to presumably lucrative careers.

Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of phony college student “left-wing activists” - i.e. FBI stooges – later occupy academic positions at American universities. This is their sinecure. Usually these positions come with tenure and the “leftist” FBI stooges have a guaranteed comfortable life income, whereby they can continue their roles as FBI accomplices in one or another endeavor and spot and inform on honest potential or actual activists.
The widespread presence on university campuses of stooges – where they can continue to be “radicals” - also gives the false impression of generous “academic freedom,” i.e. “democracy” with a capital “D”. Phony “radicals” like Noam Chomsky can operate freely “even” at M.I.T., one of the campuses most closely linked with the U.S. Defense Department, the US military.

Obama’s Legacy: Black Child Poverty at Record High
A new study by the Pew Research Center shows that Black children have been reduced to record levels of poverty over the last several years. Black kids are four times as likely to be poor as white children, with Black child poverty now cresting at 38.3 percent. Only 10.7 percent of white children live in poverty. Asian children are the least poor of all, at only 10.1 percent. Hispanic kids are about three times more likely than whites to live in poverty-stricken households, at 30.4 percent...
During the Great Recession, Black household wealth fell to one-twentieth that of median white households... Half of Black households... had virtually no family worth at all. That means the children of such households began life economically naked to the world.
The closely related culprit is Black unemployment, which has been stuck at roughly twice that of whites for more than two generations, then hit record levels during the Great Recession, and stayed there for longer than any other group.
The consequences of the economic crash and the Obama administration’s response to it, are now borne by Black children, who start off life in an historically worse condition than any other major group, and more vulnerable than the Black kids of previous generations. This is President Obama’s legacy, as the chief executive who began his first term with a blanket refusal to target federal programs to Black people, who had suffered the worst from the deliberate policies of his friends on Wall Street...

A Plethora of Sham Organizations
Let us further open the door to what paths are pursued for the US ruling class and their enforcers, the US secret political police.
We have noted – all too briefly – the enormous profit-taking and corruption of the top rungs of US society. We have noted the legion of murderous wars and subversion campaigns and the lies on which these are based. We have noted the absolute control of the mass media, overseen by the US secret political police. We have noted political murders and merciless harassment and terror campaigns.
We have pointed out the deception of running a fake “Communist Party USA,” which was and remains entirely an FBI set up. Having an FBI-run sham communist party is itself a blow against democracy. Why shouldn't people be allowed to organize for socialism?
Those not awash in a hopeless frenzy of American “democracy” must recognize that there is nothing to prevent the US secret political police from creating and manning a huge number of totally fake political – political in the broadest sense of the term - organizations in the country as well as hundreds of “movement” publications and internet sites. All the while tracking, discouraging, intimidating and destroying honest activists. No laws, no “democracy,” no “ethics” prevent the secret political police from pursuing their malicious course.
Of course, all this requires a huge well-oiled machine, considerable sums of money and reasonably large numbers of people. Who is to claim that the United States of America does not have these resources? Who can deny that the US ruling class would do virtually anything to protect its trillions of dollars in profit by projecting a phony, manipulated “democracy” as a cover?
Would it be difficult for the US secret political police to find large numbers of stooge-accomplices to play the roles of “communist,” “environmental activist,” “civil rights” or “peace activist,” “progressive” blogger, etc. etc.? Millions of Americans, unfortunately, would be ready to participate in such ugly deception. It should be noted that US popular culture – movies and television in the first place - is replete with rabid praise for the police, the FBI, CIA etc. as bold and essential fighters for the well-being of the average American and the country as a whole.
The FBI has no problem hiring make-believe activists to participate in demonstrations. Almost anyone in the US can be induced or threatened to take part in secret political police actions against FBI-targeted honest individuals.
The harsh facts are that (1) the US dictatorship has far more than ample funds, resources and organization to set up a large and varied multitude of fake “peoples'” organizations, publications...; (2) it is decidedly in the interests of – in fact, essential for - US imperialism to establish its phony and destructive “democracy” while intimidating, persecuting, terrorizing and killing honest activists; and (3) there is no lack of people in the US to become accomplices.

Напомним, 9 декабря 2014 года в США было опубликовано 500-страничное резюме доклада комитета по разведке сената США по поводу пыток, которые применялись ЦРУ в отношении подозреваемых в терроризме. Весь документ целиком насчитывает 6 тыс. страниц, его составление заняло четыре года и обошлось в $40 млн. При подготовке было исследовано более 6 млн страниц документов...

In “Silent Terror” (https://arnoldlockshin.wordpress.com/) we outlined the vicious campaign of harassment and terror against us organized by the US secret political police – in this case, most likely the FBI.
We are not going to repeat – or add to - that history here. What needs to be emphasized is that the Lockshins – US citizens – had no rights whatsoever. No Constitution, no Bill of Rights, no right to face our tormentors, no trial by jury, no presumed innocence until proven guilty, NO DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS WHATSOEVER!
It would be absolutely futile to try to take any kind of action against professional US government persecutors/terrorists. Even if I could return to the United States and file a suit (impossible!), I would not get to first base. Violent Crime Is Surging In Major U.S. Cities And The Economy Is Not Even Crashing Yet
Don’t let anyone tell you that crime is going down in America. All over the United States, rates of violent crime in our major cities are increasing by double digit percentages. Murders are way up, shootings are way up and rapes are way up. So what is behind this sudden spike in crime? In Baltimore, authorities are pointing to the racial tensions that were stirred up by the riots that erupted in protest to the death of Freddie Gray. But what about the rest of the country? From coast to coast, we are witnessing a dramatic increase in violent crime, and the economy is not even crashing yet. So what is going to happen when the next great economic crisis hits us, unemployment skyrockets, and people really start hurting?
I was very surprised to learn that the murder rate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has more than doubled so far this year…
Milwaukee, which had one of its lowest annual homicide totals in city history last year, has recorded 84 murders so far this year, more than double the 41 it tallied at the same point last year.
And of course Milwaukee is far from alone. All over the U.S., violent crime is jumping dramatically. Here is more from USA Today…
Baltimore, New Orleans and St. Louis have also seen the number of murders jump 33% or more in 2015. Meanwhile, Chicago, the nation’s third-largest city, has seen the homicide toll climb by 19% and the number of shooting incidents increase in the city by 21% during the first half of the year.
In all the cities, the increased violence
is disproportionately impacting poor and predominantly African-American and Latino neighborhoods. In parts of Milwaukee, the sound of gunfire has become so expected that about 80% of gunfire detected by ShotSpotter sensors aren’t even called into police by residents, Flynn said.
The crimes seem to be getting more brutal as well.
The homicide total for Baltimore for the year (increased) to at least 154, according to police news releases. That’s an increase of more than 40 percent compared with the same time last year. Shootings have increased more than 80 percent. The city has seen a spike in violence since the April death of Freddie Gray after his arrest. The incident received widespread national attention and sparked unrest across Baltimore...
According to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, overall crime in the city is up by more than 12 percent so far in 2015…
For the first time in more than a decade, overall crime is up in Los Angeles through the first six months of the year, rising by more than 12%, according to figures released Wednesday.

Murder US-Style
The massive power of the United States' lie, spy, provocation, subversion, terror, torture and mass murder apparatus was plainly evident in the murders of US President John Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King
Kennedy was murdered in Dallas, Texas in November 1963 by a US secret political police conspiracy. While Kennedy was a vehement anti-communist, he was not sufficiently aggressive and vicious for the US ruling elite.
As Kennedy came from the marriage of two big-time criminal families, he was originally considered perfectly safe for US imperialism (which in fact he always was!) and provided a new, youthful and even intellectual image for the United States.
With his father's connections and fortune, Kennedy – mistakenly, as subsequent events proved – felt relatively independent to pursue a more restrained and subtle and moderately less aggressive course for US imperialism. He was concerned about the threat of nuclear war and saw that the long-term aspirations of US imperialism were being damaged by incessant aggression against other countries and rampant US super-exploitation in the world.
As President, John Kennedy sent US military “advisors” to fight against the Vietnamese people, but refrained from approving a massive military invasion, which was advocated by the dominant elements in the US ruling elite. After Kennedy was assassinated, the Gulf of Tonkin provocation was concocted and JFK's successor Lyndon Johnson dispatched hundreds of thousands of US troops to Vietnam and conducted a vicious and murderous bombing campaign against that country.
Kennedy likewise gave the go-ahead for the CIA-sponsored invasion of Cuba in April, 1961 (which had been planned and organized by the previous Eisenhower administration), but he resisted sending in US military forces to supplant the defeated counter-revolutionaries in Cuba. This refusal was the last straw for the ultra-reactionary US ruling elite, and the CIA plotted and carried out Kennedy's assassination.
The viciousness of the United States secret political police was further demonstrated by their setting up one of their own agents, Lee Harvey Oswald, as the fall guy for Kennedy's murder. Before Oswald could speak out in his own defense, he was killed by another US agent right in the Dallas police station. To “investigate” Kennedy's murder, a federal commission was set up, which of course fully “verified” the absurd postulate that a “jealous” Oswald – with unbelievable accuracy and speed and at a great distance - shot the President with an obsolete hunting rifle.

В 1968 году Советский Союз ввел войска в Чехословакию. Погибло 108 чехов.
Тогда же, во второй половине 1960-х и начале 1970-х, Америка воевала во Вьетнаме. Погибло более трех миллионов вьетнамцев.
В ту же эпоху оба государства — США и Советский Союз — поддерживали дружественные себе страны по всему миру.
От Советского Союза, в частности, помощь получали: Куба, создавшая одну из лучших систем здравоохранения в мире, Ливия, чью социальную систему можно было назвать лучшей в Африке, Никарагуа, где революционные партизаны свергли образцовую в своей гнусности диктатуру Сомосы.
От Америки помощь получали: та же диктатура Сомосы, генерал Пиночет в Чили, чьи репрессии, пытки и убийства оппозиционеров стали символом времени, генерал Сухарто в Индонезии, который в «борьбе с коммунизмом» уничтожил больше полумиллиона собственных граждан, и еще многие их «коллеги».
В 1980-е годы Советский Союз вел войну в Афганистане, и одновременно — постоянно сотрудничал с Сирией, Ираком и другими арабскими странами. На Восток СССР принес высшее образование, промышленность, права женщин, медицину, военное развитие.
В последние полтора десятилетия в том же Афганистане, Сирии, Ираке — активно действует Америка. Она принесла туда развал целых государств, бесконечную войну всех против всех, резню, хаос и неизбежный религиозный фундаментализм в финале «освобождения».
В 1990-е годы уже Россия, оказавшись наследником СССР, мирно вывела свои войска из Восточной Германии и Прибалтики, добровольно закончив «Холодную войну».

Big-Time Politics
In the real politics of US imperialism, there are only two political parties. In fact, the Republicans and Democrats are twin parties of the US ruling class. Barack Obama was elected as “the change you can believe in,” as the alternate to the much-despised George Bush. And what the American people and the world obtained was George Bush Obama.
There is no difference between the Bush and Obama politics. Shifts in this or that policy may occur, but that is basically due to the fact that domestic and especially world reality does not always concur with the evil designs of US imperialism. That is to say, that tactical shifts in US policy sometimes occur, but these are rarely due to the change of face in the White House, much less because of the election of this or that senator, congressman, etc.
In the US, it is prohibitively expensive for anyone but the financially endowed to run for major political office. Moreover, the election laws are rigged to make it extremely difficult for genuine independents to even get on the ballot.
In parallel with the mass media, there are the politician “outliers,” who make relatively progressive pronouncements or even introduce progressive bills. Nothing comes of their phony efforts; nothing is supposed to come of them. But they give the false impression of “democracy:” “see, we have so-and-so taking up our cause; all is not lost.” Fakery!
Most importantly, all candidates – for whatever office, even on a purely local level – are vetted by the US secret political police. If one or another aspirant does not pass muster, he can be eliminated by conventional means or by the devices of hidden psychological warfare.

Pentagon Concludes America Not Safe Unless It Conquers The World
The Pentagon has released its “National Military Strategy of the United States of America 2015,” June 2015.
The document announces a shift in focus from terrorists to “state actors” that “are challenging international norms.” It is important to understand what these words mean. Governments that challenge international norms are sovereign countries that pursue policies independently of Washington’s policies. These “revisionist states” are threats, not because they plan to attack the US, which the Pentagon admits neither Russia nor China intend, but because they are independent. In other words, the norm is dependence on Washington.
Be sure to grasp the point: The threat is the existence of sovereign states, whose independence of action makes them “revisionist states.” In other words, their independence is out of step with the neoconservative Uni-power doctrine that declares independence to be the right of Washington alone. Washington’s History-given hegemony precludes any other country being independent in its actions.
The Pentagon’s report defines the foremost “revisionist states” as Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran. The focus is primarily on Russia. Washington hopes to co-op China, despite the “tension to the Asia-Pacific region” that China’s defense of its sphere of influence, a defense “inconsistent with international law” (this from Washington, the great violator of international law), by turning over what remains of the American consumer market to China. It is not yet certain that Iran has escaped the fate that Washington imposed on Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, Ukraine, and by complicity Palestine.
The Pentagon report is sufficiently audacious in its hypocrisy, as all statements from Washington are, to declare that Washington and its vassals “support the established institutions and processes dedicated to preventing conflict, respecting sovereignty, and furthering human rights.” This from the military of a government that has invaded, bombed, and overthrown 11 governments since the Clinton regime and is currently working to overthrow governments in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, and Argentina.
In the Pentagon document, Russia is under fire for not acting “in accordance with international norms,” which means Russia is not following Washington’s leadership.
In other words, this is a bullshit report written by neocons in order to foment war with Russia.
Nothing else can be said about the Pentagon report, which justifies war and more war. Without war and conquests, Americans are not safe...
This report tells us that war with Russia is our future unless Russia agrees to become a vassal state like every country in Europe, and Canada, Australia, Ukraine, and Japan. Otherwise, the neoconservatives have decided that it is impossible for Americans to tolerate living with a country that makes decisions independently of Washington. If America cannot be The Uni-Power dictating to the world, better that we are all dead. At least that will show the Russians.

Massive, Constant Foreign Aggression
No discussion of the real United States of America would begin to be complete without recalling the massive and repeated crimes of the US ruling class and government abroad. This is not a setting for such a discussion, which would involve not merely blog notes, but a compendium of books.
We merely note in passing here the multiple US invasions in Latin American countries, the full support of the US for nazi and fascist countries in the 1930's (see my series of blogs “Америка и Фашизм”), the multiple CIA incursions and subversions, the mass murder of Koreans in the 1950's, of the Vietnamese and other Indochinese peoples in the 1960's and 1970's, the provocative lie about “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq, which led to the death of well over a million people (see my blog Вредная Машина Пропаганды) – and the suffering continues and will continue, the murderous military campaign against the progressive government in Libya, the attempts to overthrow the Syrian government, etc. etc. As the astute observer will note, this list is far from complete.
This massive and virtually non-stop aggression requires a “passive” and compliant citizenry within the USA itself. Real opposition to US imperialist aggression sometimes occurs – as it did in the later stages of the Vietnam War – but it is crucially important that this opposition not go “too far.” The need for largely hidden control is obvious here as well. The US dictatorship cannot maintain its dominant world position or its massive exploitation of foreign peoples without a quiescent or at least controlled domestic populace.
The Prostitute and Controlled Mass Media
Anyone who seriously follows the US mass media will note that TV and radio, newspapers and magazines, etc. are powerful mass propaganda vehicles on behalf of US imperialism. The US mass media assiduously follow the rules of psychological warfare propaganda enunciated by the expert proponents of that evil “science.” (For a list of books concerning psychological warfare propaganda, see references in “Silent Terror.” https://arnoldlockshin.wordpress.com/ )
The naive – or malicious – apologist for the US mass media will often emphasize the occasional material which criticizes the president or US policies. “Freedom of the press!” From an operational standpoint, this or that president or senator or congressman is not particularly important. This or that law is rarely highly significant. Presidents and the others come and go, but the fundamental policies of US imperialism do not change as a result. Criticism of some individual does not amount to much, if anything.
For the US mass media, what is crucial is to defend and propagate the basic politics of US imperialism. The very infrequent substantial – and often, not at all substantial - criticism that is occasionally printed (dissemination on TV is even far less common) changes nothing fundamental about the propaganda machine. And is in fact useful, as occasional, and usually not very perspicacious commentary, reinforces the false perception of the US mass media as being “free.”
The massive US propaganda machine is an essential component of the US dictatorship. Adherence to the official line is supervised by the US secret political police.

Learning The Truth About Real US “Democracy” - The Sham “Communist Party USA”
I was a member of the so-called “Communist Party USA” from 1967 to 1977. I joined the CP because I had been convinced from a rather early age that socialism was far superior to capitalism. When I joined I was completely naive about what the “Communist Party USA” really was, and there was no one to guide me.
For most of the time of my “Party” membership, I was a full-time political organizer, mostly for the “Party” itself. I was the main organizer for the “Party” in two important regions - Ohio and then Southern California - and a member of the “Central Committee” from the fall of 1969 to the middle of 1977.
I attended numerous, numerous meetings at all levels and personally knew all the “Party's national leaders and virtually all of the state or district leaders as well. I knew all of the “Party” members in New England (where I first joined the “Party”), in Ohio and Southern California (of course). I came into sufficient contact to know many or most of the “Communist Party” members in New York, Illinois, Indiana, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Northern California and in other regions.

When I was a member, the “Communist Party USA” had about 2,000 – 3,000 members nationwide, although the “Party” “leaders” claimed about ten times that number. It published a daily (5 times weekly) newspaper, the Daily World, plus a weekly west-coast newspaper, the Peoples' World. “Political Affairs” was the “Party's” monthly “theoretical journal.” The “Party” ran a youth organization, the “Young Workers' Liberation League” and had its hands in various enterprises, including travel bureaus to the socialist countries.
The yearly budget of the “Party” ran into the several millions of dollars. When I was in the “Party,” there were up to or more than 200 people – including “journalists” and people in subsidiary organizations - who were on the “Party” payroll. They all lived well, and showed no signs of financial or other hardship.
2,000 to 3,000 “Party” members is, of course, a very small percentage of the US population. But is would be a highly significant number – if composed of genuine revolutionaries. 200 or so full-time political organizers is by no means a trivial number. If one excludes election campaigns, how many full-time organizers are there in the two predominant US parties – Republican and Democrat?

Yet this substantial apparent political force in the US did nothing of any political significance. Certainly nothing “revolutionary” or “communist!” If one writes a detailed and verbose history of the United States and the country's internal and external politics during the period 1967-1977, you will not be obliged to mention the “Communist Party USA.”
The one possible noteworthy exception in the entire period when I was active was the “Free Angela Davis” campaign. The campaign reached somewhat beyond the US, mostly in the socialist countries, but it had no impact on enhancing the effect of the CP. Massive Crimes Beyond Mass Spying
The Snowden revelations have come and mostly gone. There are at least three major vital but largely ignored conclusions to be drawn from this episode.
(1) Nothing has changed in the “work” of the National Security Agency (NSA) or any other component of the enormous US lie, spy, criminal, provocation, subversion and regime change, terror, drug-runnning, torture and mass murder apparatus. Like so many other exposures of the horrendous crimes of US imperialism, nothing of importance changes as a result.
The NSA continues its massive, everyday, world-wide spying as before. The fact that such spying against Americans directly violates the US Constitution is a matter of no importance whatsoever.
No one is punished for these crimes. Snowden himself has to hide out in Russia to avoid ugly reprisals from the US.
(2) Massive spying is not an end in itself. It is an essential component for conducting psychological warfare – and other forms of warfare. In the United States, the combination of massive intelligence-gathering and largely hidden psychological warfare against genuine dissenters is used to suppress real opposition to reactionary US imperialist policies at home and abroad. This suppression is fundamentally important for the functioning of the US dictatorship. (Other aspects vital to the US dictatorship will be discussed subsequently.)
Mass NSA spying is, as we know, not limited to the United States. The information so gathered is used to obtain information on the thoughts and actions of virtually everyone in the world, at least all those who use computers, telephones or other electronic devices. Such “intelligence” is a key component of conducting psychological warfare operations abroad in collusion with foreign accomplices-stooges – such as the KGB in the former Soviet Union or the FSB in Russia today.
In times of actual warfare, the advantages of such a widespread information-gathering network are obvious. The material can not only identify opponents of US imperialism, but potential collaborators as well.
(3) The horrendous US lie, spy, criminal, provocation, subversion and regime change, terror, drug-runnning, torture and mass murder apparatus is truly MASSIVE. Remember that the NSA, with its enormous and vastly expensive spying operations constitute only one part of the enormous US secret political police apparatus. Whatever the officially designated figures, the US “intelligence” machine costs hundreds of billions of dollars annually – approximately the amount spent on the US military. Which according to former CIA Chief Allen Dulles is as it should be [1].
Any under-estimation of the scope of the massive US lie, spy, criminal, provocation, subversion and regime change, terror, drug-runnning, torture and mass murder apparatus is a grave mistake. The never-ending, world-wide propaganda campaign to depict the US as a “democracy” contributes greatly to falsely down-playing the crucial role of the CIA, FBI, NSA etc. in the politics of US imperialism at home and abroad.
