"Mend" is a rarity in spoken AE, except for particular usages such as mending nets, mending fences, and some sewing tasks. It's possible "mend" is a word that is "phasing out" more among younger generations in the US.
But wounds still mend, as do figurative injuries like broken hearts.

BUT if a relationship can be mended, that implies that it's just a little frayed, whereas, if it's broken, it needs to be fixed.

In the UK, the word "mend" is still in common use.
"Only last week, my stereo music player stopped working and had to be mended. Of course, I took it to a "repair shop".
In general, British socks are "darned" rather than "mended". This is a reference to the type of repair necessary to mend the hole.

Судя по всему, все эти bucket, shovel, scooper отличаются лишь глубиной:

А еще я искала вот такой. . Он называется "clam bucket".

Сначала "мама" и "папа" были только шепотом. Не так давно эти слова стали переходить в голос. По первОй "папа" сбивался на "баба" и "бапа". Щас уже вроде ничего. Приезжал брат мой, активно с ребенком играл. Во второй половине дня получил прозвище "дядя", иногда сбивающееся на "тятя". Очень странно конечно звучит пока это "я". Это что-то среднее между "а" и "я", типа как иностранец говорит. К сожалению, брат был у нас только один день, так что это слово пока уйдет в пассив. Очень странно, что он стал звать его по-русски. Папа сказал Митяю, что это дядя только пару раз утром. потом от меня он все время слышал "uncle". Либо он правильно выбрал язык обращения к русскоязычному человеку, либо выбирает папин язык.

Еще я начинаю убеждаться в том, что "дадн" - это все-тки "дай". Плюс у нас сова "у-ух", коровка "му", правда, не разжимая губ. Не так давно снова слышала "heehaw" про осла. Но один раз. Еще был один день, када рыба стала "f", а чай "t" (по совету американских логопедов стала повторять за ним все, что он ни пытался произнести, и вроде как реакция была, но все вернулось на круги своя). Еще было или есть "ф" - фишки мозаики.

Итоги.
Митяю уже 2 года, на текущий момент у него 2-3 нормальных слова (мама, папа и м.б. дядя), 2 устойчивых звукоподражания (у-ух и му), одно трудноузнаваемое слово (дадн) и иногда эксперименты. из того, что есть, можно сделать вывод, что он решается пока говорить что-то по-русски. Английское иногда выскакивает, но стоит обратить на это внимание, как ребенок тут же замолкает. На сем пока и все.

Похоже, cereal - это уже готовый завтрак, в который только что и нужно, что добавить воды/молока
porridge - это то, что нужно готовить.

Когда рядом нет мамы, Митяй исключительно шепотом повторяет "мама", а когда папы - "папа".

Вроде знаю этот стишок практически с самого рождения Митяя, а вот то, что это аналог русских "ладушек" узнала совсем недавно. А с самыми маленькими можно играть так:

To make a long story short, в британском английском слово pail скорее архаизм, ассоциирующийся больше с nursery rhymes (Jack and Jill went up the hill/To fetch a pail of water), несмотря даже на такого кита, как Oxford English Dictionary (OED).

Митяй явно стесняется говорить. Получается у него и правда не очень. Бывает, он репетирует слова шепотом, часто когда я в другой комнате. При мне может что-то пытаться говорить, если закроет глаза ладошками или какой-нибудь коробкой, либо произнесет пару раз, я выражаю восторг и одобрение, он похихикает довольно и на этом все заканчивается. Еще не слышала ни одного русского \"слова\".
