Huge Numbers for $1.5k Omaha Hi-Lo 02-06-2011 06:55

A man sits down at a poker game and consistently calls another man's bluff. The other man asks "how could you tell I was lying?" and the man replies "because your chips were moving." The third event of the 2011 WSOP, the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo drew 925 players, which made it the biggest Omaha Hi-Lo tournament ever played.  The only Omaha Hi-Lo event that even comes close is last year’s WSOP Omaha Hi-Lo event that attracted 818 players.  This year’s field of 925 players combined to create a prizepool worth $1.2 million. First place will walk away with $262k. The $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo event has grown exponentially over the last few years and if you look back to 2007, there were only 690 players. Despite the relatively low buy in there were plenty of big name poker pros looking to score an early bracelet including Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Jeffrey Lisandro, Max... holdem poker online

2011 WSOP $25k Heads-Up Breaks Records 01-06-2011 15:25

A man calls his wife at work and tells her "honey... I have some bad news. We just won the 3 million dollar state lottery." and the wife replies "Bad news? How is that bad news! We can finally live out our dreams!" to which the man responds "The payout is 3 dollars a year for a million years." The Heads-Up Championship, which was the first open-event of the 2011 WSOP, drew 128 players to create a prizepool of $3.04 million with $851k dedicated to first place. It’s the most cash ever generated by a heads-up tournament. Technically the event had half as many players as last year’s heads-up championship but because the buy-in was increased from $10k to $25k it was a much larger prizepool.  It was anyone’s guess who would show up for the event, thanks to online poker’s Black Friday in April, but the majority of the big names were there with Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, Tom Dwan, Erick Lindgren, Vanessa Rousso and Patrik Antonius all patched up in either PokerStars or Full Tilt... holdem poker online

Ivey Skipping 2011 WSOP, Suing Tiltware 01-06-2011 09:15

A weekly Friday night poker game was going strong well into the midnight hour when one of the players from the game returned from a bathroom break with a shocked look to him. "David!" he said with urgency, "Come quick! Your wife is in the bathroom making love to your brother!". "Ok guys" David replied, "this is absolutely the last hand!" Ivey issued the statement via his Facebook fan page and argued that because Full Tilt had not paid their U.S. players back he did not feel right playing at the WSOP when other players couldn’t. It’s the first time that Ivey has spoken publically about Full Tilt since online poker’s Black Friday and the site was forced to leave the U.S. market. Although many poker players first assumed the statement was a hoax, it was later confirmed through Ivey’s manager. Ivey did not play the $25,000 Heads-Up Championship event that started earlier today. What follows is the statement in its entirety. Note: the statement first appeared in six separate updates. For many years, I have been proud to call... Freeroll poker online

WSOP 2011 Best Bets International: France 01-06-2011 00:00

A man sits down at a poker game and consistently calls another man's bluff. The other man asks "how could you tell I was lying?" and the man replies "because your chips were moving." This year we’ve drawn on our vast network of international poker writers to give us a few inside picks from countries around the world. Today: France! Surprises are always a great part of the WSOP story, like Vanessa Hellebuyck winning an unexpected bracelet for France at the 2010 WSOP. But it’s equally fun to try and predict who the main stories will be. It's still virtually impossible to predict, but if the cards fall right you can reasonably assume some players will be at the the top more often than others. So who then stands the best chance to bring a sixth bracelet back to France at the 2011 WSOP? No introduction necessary.   Bertrand « ElkY » Grospellier (30 years old) No need... holdem poker online

Jose "Girah" Macedo Q&A: Too Young to Play WSOP 01-06-2011 00:00

A man joins gambler's anonymous. He's given three-to-one odds he won't make it. Inspired by Tom “durrrr” Dwan’s meteoric rise to high-stakes prominence, Macedo started with a ˆ30 deposit on BetFair and was playing as high as $300/$600 in just a few short years. And while most of the poker world is gearing up for the World Series of Poker, starting today in Las Vegas, Macedo is still years away from making his WSOP debut. That hasn’t stopped Macedo from dreaming of WSOP glory, however. He aspires to become the first Portuguese player to win a World Series bracelet. PokerListings.com caught Girah to get an update on what’s happening in his world. 2011 World Series of Poker Begins Today 31-05-2011 20:50

How is a women like a casino? Liquor in the front, poker in the back! The 2011 World Series of Poker kicks off with two very different events: The $500 Casino Employees event and the $25,000 Heads-Up world championship. 58 bracelet events in total will be played between today and July 19, concluding with the $10,000 Main Event beginning July 7. Just like the previous three years the Main Event will follow the ‘November Nine’ format once it reaches the final nine players on July 19. Those nine will take almost four months off before returning to Las Vegas in November to decide the 2011 world champion of poker. Other highlights of the 2011 WSOP include the $50,000 Players Championship, the most exclusive and expensive event at the World Series, and nine... holdem poker online

The Sunday Scoop: Reinkemeier is Sunday Million Champ 31-05-2011 05:25

Some people have luck that goes from good to bad in an instant. Take this one friend of mine for example. He almost always draws whatever card he needs to win a hand of poker, but almost always loses big at the horse races! I asked him about this and he once replied "Well, they don't let me shuffle the horses." Reinkemeier had a lucrative session on PokerStars, winning the last Sunday Million before the WSOP begins Tuesday. An accomplished German poker player with big results online and live, Reinkemeier earned $135,053 for the victory. A total of 4,833 players bought in to the PokerStars Sunday Million this week, coming up just short of the $1 million guarantee and forcing PokerStars to chip $33,400 into the prize pool. 720 players in all would get a spot in the money. Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree pure-bubbled this event, busting in 721st. When the final table was reached, Reinkemeier was second in chips with 11.3 million, trailing The_Anfied who led with 14.7 million. A deal was agreed upon... Freeroll poker online

Isildur1 Burned for $210k 30-05-2011 23:11

A woman walks into living room and sees her brother playing poker with their dog. "Wow!" she exclaimed, "You must have the smartest dog in the world!" and her brother replies "He's not all that smart. I've beaten him 3 out of 5 games so far." The Swedish poker phenom certainly didn’t lose for lack of effort as he fired off 5,751 hands against a number of opponents. The real problems began when he took on Gavin “gavz101” Cochrane at $50/$100 Pot-Limit Omaha.  Isildur1 and gavz101 have been sparring all month but for the most part Isildur1 had held his own against the elite PLO player. It was another story last night as gavz101 dominated Blom for $187k. Blom went on to play Sauce123 and finally called it a night when he hit -$210k. The loss marked the end of a very successful run for Isildur1 as he had been able to win $550k in the month of May and finally get even on the year. After last night’s loss, Isildur1 once again... rake in holdem online

The win comes just one day after a $337k score and puts Hansen up $1.3 million in the last seven days and up to $3.9 million on the year.  Once again Hansen’s good friend and teammate Patrik Antonius was one of the key victims as the pair played a series of $300/$600 PLO 6-Max PLO hands as well as some $3,000/$6,000 Omaha Hi-Lo. Antonius lost a total of $241k and is in danger of slipping below the $1 million profit mark for the first time in over a month.
