Entrepreneur Turned Poker Pro Lehavot Lands WSOP Gold 08-06-2011 05:15

A homeless man asks another man for two dollars. The man says "Will you use the money to buy booze?" The homeless man replies "No sir, I don't drink." The man then asks "Will you use the money to gamble?" The homeless man replies "No sir, I don't gamble." So the man says "Do me a favor and come home with me. I want my wife to see what happens to a man who doesn't drink or gamble." Lehavot, who was born and raised in Israel but moved to the US when he was 16, beat a field of 249 players to win the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em world championship. He received $573,456 for the victory. Lehavot had an unusual inroad to the poker world, having worked in the high-tech industry until seven years ago. He decided to take a year off to travel with the intention of returning to work and during that time he came up with an idea for a new way to teach poker strategy on the internet. His interest in playing poker developed alongside his website and before he knew it, poker was providing the bulk of his living. Despite significant live success that includes a $422,000 score at the... Freeroll poker online

Canucks Fans Invade World Series of Poker 07-06-2011 10:45

A man joins gambler's anonymous. He's given three-to-one odds he won't make it. When the WSOP rolls around it’s time for poker pros to get down to business. There’s nowhere else in the world that even comes close as far as the amount of money up for grabs and the variety of poker games being spread. That’s putting Canucks fans in a tough spot and forcing them to make a decision between their team and their bottom line. Full Tilt sponsored pro and Vancouver native Greg “FBT” Mueller is feeling the pain of being away from his home town during the NHL finals perhaps more than anyone. “Hockey’s my life outside of poker,” explained Mueller, a professional hockey player turned poker pro who has won two bracelets at the WSOP. “It’s what I do all year long, have fun and go... holdem poker online

Former Online Pro Wilder Wins Big at WSOP 07-06-2011 04:35

A woman walks into living room and sees her brother playing poker with their dog. "Wow!" she exclaimed, "You must have the smartest dog in the world!" and her brother replies "He's not all that smart. I've beaten him 3 out of 5 games so far." Wilder dropped out of college to play poker professionally on the internet, specializing in Limit Hold’em cash games, and saw his ability to earn a living disappear when the U.S. government restricted the access of its citizens to the three biggest online poker sites. Faced with a decision, Wilder decided to try his hand at live poker, starting with the World Series of Poker. With zero results on his poke resume before he won this event he kicked his live tournament career off with a bang, winning $205,065 and a WSOP bracelet. “Black Friday was bad,” Wilder told PokerListings.com in Las Vegas. “There aren’t a lot of career opportunities for a college dropout who hasn’t had a real job... Bari, Lehavot and Wilder Wins Highlight WSOP Day 6 06-06-2011 13:10

Some people have luck that goes from good to bad in an instant. Take this one friend of mine for example. He almost always draws whatever card he needs to win a hand of poker, but almost always loses big at the horse races! I asked him about this and he once replied "Well, they don't let me shuffle the horses." We’ve got the details on those victories plus summaries of each ongoing WSOP event below. Event 4 - $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em - Final The number of great poker players who have never won a bracelet is large but tonight we crossed Allen Bari’s name off that list. 865 players paid the $5,000 entry fee in this event to build a prize pool in excess of $4 million. Over $2.6 million of that went to the final table finishers, with Allen Bari taking home $874,116. Bari defeated Maria Ho heads-up and outlasted a tough final-table line-up including Ricky Fohrenbach, Jesse Chinni and Farzad Bonyadi to win his first WSOP bracelet. Click here for the whole story. Bari Bucks Monkey, Wins First WSOP Bracelet 06-06-2011 07:00

How is a women like a casino? Liquor in the front, poker in the back! Bari dominated the final table of the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event in Las Vegas over the last two days, entering the final nine among the chip leaders and persevering until just him, the bracelet and $874,116 were left at the table. Bari defeated poker pro and Amazing Race contestant Maria Ho heads-up. Bari has been playing live tournaments since 2004 but, despite more than $1.7 million in earnings, a major title had thus far eluded him. Bari is a realist, and understands that the difference between a bracelet and finishing runner-up is razor-thin. “A bracelet means a lot but I don’t think a bracelet should validate you as a player,” he explained to the media moments after his win. “For... holdem poker online

Early Cash for WSOP Best Bet Thorsten Schafer 06-06-2011 07:00

A brain surgeon receives a phone call from a colleague on a Saturday night. "We need another poker player for tonight" the friend says. "I'll be there right away!" the doctor replies with a sense of urgency. As he puts on his coat and makes his way out the door his wife asks him "Is it serious?" and the doctor replies "Oh, very! There are 3 other doctors already there!" High-stakes online poker pro Thorsten Schafer was included in our German edition, and just one week into the World Series he’s cashed in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em World Championship. The event attracted 249 of the world’s best high-stakes tournament pros and boasted a total prize pool of over $2.3 million. Many players put great importance on getting results early in the World Series of Poker but Schafer disagrees, indicating a confidence in his game that isn’t built on small cashes. “Honestly I don’t care about early results,” he told PokerListings.com moments after busting in 17th place, good for $25,348. “I know there’s a lot of variance in these events and I know that if you play... holdem poker online

Ho, Katchalov Highlight WSOP Day 5 05-06-2011 18:40

How is a women like a casino? Liquor in the front, poker in the back! Eugene Katchalov beat Allessio Isaia to win his first WSOP bracelet while Maria Ho became the first woman to make a final table at the 2011 WSOP. Unfortunately for Ho, Allen Bari was at the same table and when play ended for the night he was the massive chip leader. Here’s a look at what else happened on Day 5 of the WSOP. Event 5 $1,500 Seven-Card Stud Final Sometimes the most compelling stories of the WSOP occur in the least publicized tournaments. That was certainly the case at the final table of the $1,500 Seven-Card Stud event, where Eugene Katchalov won his first WSOP bracelet. Katchalov, who resides in Brooklyn, NY, but was born in the Ukraine, already had $6.2 million in lifetime tournament winnings including a win at the WPT Five Diamond in 2007 for $2.4 million and more recently a victory in the 2011 $100k Super High Roller at the PCA for $1.5 million. Jake Cody Talks $25k Heads-Up Championship 05-06-2011 06:20

A man walks into a poker room and notices two men and a dog playing poker. The dog was playing exceptionally well and the man comments "Wow, that's one smart dog!". "Not too smart." one of the men at the table replies. "Every time he gets a good hand, he wags his tail." Despite the fact the 22-year-old Rochdale-native has already made huge scores at the WPT and EPT, the WSOP victory was the sweetest for Cody. “This tops it all,” he said. “Even though the EPT was my first big win having all the lads here to support me was awesome.” Cody had to beat seven of the toughest heads-up players in the world including Gus Hansen, Brandon Adams and Frank Kassela to claim the first open WSOP-bracelet of the summer. Moneymaker, Chan Win WSOP Rematches 04-06-2011 02:20

"Wow!" she exclaimed, "You must have the smartest dog in the world!" and her brother replies "He's not all that smart. I've beaten him 3 out of 5 games so far." The special event took place all day at the Amazon Room’s new TV final table with ESPN crews on hand for filming. Chan first took on Hellmuth in a rematch of their 1989 WSOP Main Event heads-up match, where Chan was denied his third consecutive Main Event title. The Orient Express showed no signs of age as he battered Hellmuth early and never really let up. At one point Hellmuth managed to battle his way back to even but then Chan hit a seven-outer to cripple Hellmuth. In the end Chan would not be denied his revenge and got it all-in with pocket eights against Hellmuth’s K-T. The board ran out bricks and gave Chan the game-deciding checkmark. Upstart English tournament crusher Jake Cody and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Eric Froehlich round out the impressive final four that will play down to a winner tomorrow in the $25,000 Heads-Up Championship.  Hansen, easily the most recognizable face in the final four, has had an exceptional run in this year’s event beating Jason Mercier, Greg Brooks, Daniel Alaei, Tom Dwan and, most recently, Matt Marafioti. Indeed Hansen has a world of momentum heading into the final four considering he won the last heads-up title that was held at the WSOPE in London.  The Danish pro is also having one of his best online years ever with nearly $4 million in profit.
