Food Allergy: An Overview

INTRODUCTION

Food allergy is recognized as a common worldwide problem, and, like other atopic disorders, its incidence seems to increase. In the past years, investigations of allergic food proteins and related immunological responses have moved to the molecular level, and the newly-found knowledge might provide novel experimental strategies for the laboratory diagnosis and the immuno-modulatory control of food-induced allergic reactions (1, 2).

Approximately 20% of the population alters their diet for a perceived adverse reaction to food, but the application of double-blind placebo-controlled oral food challenge, the gold standard for diagnosis of food allergy, shows that questionnaire-based studies overestimate the prevalence of food allergies. The clinical disorders determined by adverse reactions to food can be classified on the basis of immunologic or no immunologic mechanisms and the organ system or systems affected (3, 4, 5).

The true prevalence of food allergy is lower and seems to range from 1% to 4% of the general population and about 6% of the general population and about 6% of the paediatric population, but does occur in as much as 25% of children with eczema6. Allergic hypersensitivity simply put, is an adverse immune reaction to a protein (or allergen) in our environment, which is normally harmless to the non-allergic person. It may present as mild itching of the skin, tissue swelling and wheezing or even progress to full-blown anaphylaxis and death. 18 million allergy sufferers live in the UK where 4% of the populations also have a food allergy.

Allergy develops after repeated exposure to the causative allergen. Sensitization takes place on initial exposure (a process that may take up to six weeks to develop) and no adverse reaction appears to occur during initial sensitization (6).

(A) DEFINITION

A food allergy is an immunologic response to a food protein and caused by allergens in the food that are a kind of protein in the food. These proteins resist the cooking process, the acid in the stomach and the enzymes in the stomach and intestines and enter the blood stream and they cause the allergy reaction after they enter the blood stream.

(B) SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

Symptoms of food allergies are: -

1. Anaphylaxis: a severe, whole-body allergic reaction that can result in death. Leads to vasodilation and, if severe, symptoms of life-threatening shock.

2. Angioedema: rapid swelling (edema) of the skin, mucosa and submucosal tissues, especially of the eyelids, face, lips, and tongue.

3. Eczema is a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the upper layers of the skin.

(a). Atopic eczema (aka infantile e., flexural e., atopic dermatitis) is believed to have a hereditary component, and often runs in families whose members also have hay fever and asthma. Itchy rash is particularly noticeable on face and scalp, neck, inside of elbows, behind knees, and buttocks.

(b). Contact dermatitis is of two types: allergic (resulting from a delayed reaction to some allergen, such as poison ivy or nickel), and irritant (resulting from direct reaction to a solvent, for example). Some substances act both as allergen and irritant (e.g. wet cement). Other substances cause a problem after sunlight exposure, bringing on phototoxic dermatitis.

(c). Xerotic eczema (aka asteatotic e., e. craquele or craquelatum, winter itch, pruritus hiemalis) is dry skin that becomes so serious it turns into eczema. It worsens in dry winter weather, and limbs and trunk are most often affected. The itchy, tender skin resembles a dry, cracked, river bed. This disorder is very common among the older population.

(d). Seborrhoeic dermatitis (aka cradle cap in infants, dandruff) causes dry or greasy scaling of the scalp and eyebrows. Scaly pimples and red patches sometimes appear in various adjacent places. In newborns it causes a thick, yellow crusty scalp rash called cradle cap which seems related to lack of biotin, and is often curable.

4. Skin rashes, such as nettle rash (also called urticaria or hives). Some of these longer lasting rashes are called atopic dermatitis.

5. Itching of the mouth, throat, eyes, skin, or any area

6. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, or abdominal pain

7. Running nose or nasal congestion

8. Wheezing, scratchy throat, shortness of breath, or difficulty swallowing

9. Mood swings, depression: The symptoms of an Immunoglobulin E (IgE) allergic reaction can take place within a few minutes to an hour. The process of eating and digesting food affects the

BPO Services in Malta – The EU’s ICT HUB a gateway to Europe, Africa and the middle east 09-04-2011 10:42

Îðèãèíàë ñîîáùåíèÿ

The Island state of Malta has historically been a hub for trade, a melting pot of cultures as well as a gateway from Europe to North Africa. Today, in a world which is well into the  communication age, quoted as ‘One of the worlds best small economies*, Malta has yet again managed to secure a notable global presence in the ICT and Contact centre world.

The  countrys ICT Industry employs over 6000 people and shows no sign of slowing down. With an increasing dissatisfaction with contact centres in the far east and the tensions in North Africa, investors are once again looking at Malta for stable business development solutions.

The Maltese authorities have embarked on a mission to make the island Europes ICT Hub of choice by 2015 and the country seems to be well on its way to achieving this ambitious target.  So heres why have global players including Microsoft, Vodafone, Siemens chosen Malta, and why you should be seriously considering it.

1.       Location, Location, Location.

·         An international airport connecting you to over 37 major capitals and European cities within less than 3 hours.

·         A strong growing economy geographically situated within easy reach of European, African and the Middle Eastern markets.

2.        Malta means Business

·         Full EU and Eurozone Member

·         Stable Economic, social and Political environment

·         Cutting edge IT and telecommunication infrastructure

·         Attractive incentive packages as well as relatively low cost highly trained workforce

·         Very strong linguistic capabilities. English is spoken well and without accents and there is an increasing number of foreign nationals settling in the country allowing Malta to offer contact centre services in any language by native speakers.

·         Staff is highly qualified, attrition is negligible and labour costs are relatively low.

So Malta has a lot going for it when it comes to doing business there, but will this be enough to convince global executives to settle there ?

Well if Maltas credentials were not enough,  the climate and life style will certainly make you wish you were already there.  The island is beautiful and the sun shines 300 days a year. Cost of living is substantially lower than any other EU state.  A high quality of life , excellent education and health care facilities are likely to make it easier  for business executives to convince their  families to move  with them .  Steeped in culture history and an outdoor lifestyle Malta makes for an ideal getaway form the trappings of daily life. So if youre tired of the grey sky and wish your office overlooked the Mediterranean as opposed to the afternoon traffic perhaps nows the time pack a bag and seriously take a good look at Malta.

HEART ATTACK: MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION 09-04-2011 10:38

Îðèãèíàë ñîîáùåíèÿ

HEART ATTACK: MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION

No one wants to think about heart attack. Its the boogey man that causes more deaths worldwide than any other medical condition. In the U.S. alone there are 1.2 million heart attacks every year: somewhere around 25% to 30% end in fatality. Around 20% of people die before they ever reach medical care. So why would we want to think about such a depressing subject? The answer is simple: the more you know, and act on what you know, the less likely youll fall victim to this condition. You can start right now on a program to reduce your chances of having a heart attack

We have known for many years that smoking causes heart disease and contributes to heart attacks. It  seems that the constituents of cigarette smoke damage the intricate and very sensitive cells which line our blood vessels. These endothelial cells, of course, line the coronary arteries which deliver blood and oxygen to the individual heart muscle cells and electrical conduction cells. The smoke damages arteries all over the body, making the heart work harder to pump the blood to these other arteries. The harder pumping can lead to high blood pressure which in and of itself damages the heart. Its like a cycle of one bad thing causing another then working its way around again to cause further bad effects.

We know that having too much of a certain fat substance called cholesterol damages the arteries and heart. It does this by depositing in all the bodys arteries like sludge in a pipe. As the cholesterol   sludge increases, the diameter inside of the artery decreases (lumen). The artery becomes more brittle, rather than the gently pulsing and distributing mechanism which distributes the hearts energy throughout the body. The really catastrophic event for the heart is when one of these cholesterol deposits ruptures causing bleeding and a clot to form in a coronary artery. This clot can very quickly block all flow through the artery and cause blood flow to cease in heart muscle supplied by the particular blood vessel. When heart cells are deprived of oxygen and blood they begin to die, and that is what we call a heart attack.

So what can we do about that cholesterol? Well, one thing is to investigate our family medical history. Did several members have early heart attacks or strokes or problems with circulation that may have caused an amputation? A big part of our measured cholesterol is simply due to heredity. Either we make too much or we dont get rid of enough. A second thing we can do is actually have our cholesterol tested before age 21, and then rechecked on physical exams thereafter if there is a problem noted. We can put ourselves on a heart smart diet, avoiding excessive animal fat and consuming plenty of fibrin in our daily food intake. One recurring theme in proactive care of ones heart is regular exercise. It helps elevated cholesterol. It strengthens the heart, and helps repair damage to the endothelial cells of our blood vessels.

Sometimes these self-care activities, though they help, may not be enough to get cholesterol down to healthy levels. What wed like to see is total cholesterol below 180, LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) below 100, and HDL (the good cholesterol) above 40. There are a couple of ways to achieve this medically. One way is to prescribe a medicine which sequesters the cholesterol in the intestine by blocking its absorption. Another way is to give medicines which cause the body to make less cholesterol, mostly in the liver. The body makes its own cholesterol. This is either by the blood vessels or their food.HDL removes cholesterol from the blood vessels and brings it back to the liver to be destroyed Your doctor can look at your cholesterol pattern and prescribe the right medicine to achieve this goal.

So, how does this all come together in discussing heart attack? Weve discussed how important smoking cessation is: you reduce your chance of heart attack by 50% in just one year of not smoking, if you were a smoker. We know that exercise reduces many factors in the evolution of a heart attack. We know that having ideal levels of cholesterol reduces your chance of heart attack. And weve mentioned that a heart attack occurs when a coronary artery is blocked and the cardiac cells fed by it begin to stress and die.

What is it like to have a heart attack? It may be the same symptoms for men and women, but women often have a different pattern of symptoms. One common complaint is squeezing pain under the breast bone. It may radiate to, or altogether be felt in, the shoulder, neck, jaw, or left arm. There can be shortness of breath or pronounced fatigue, which is particularly present in women. There can be delirium or dizziness because of decreased blood flow to the brain as a result of

Property in Austria – Guide to Buying Property in Austria 09-04-2011 10:23

Îðèãèíàë ñîîáùåíèÿ

In considering an overview of real estate in Austria, the most striking fact associated with real property in that country is the fact that overall the costs associated with real estate in Austria is higher than any other country in Europe. In addition, the cost of living in Austria generally is higher than any other country in Europe at the present time.

With this in mind, it is also important to note that the tax rate in Austria when it comes to the buying and selling of real estate in that country also runs rather high. For example, any capital gains that are experienced on the sale of real estate is taxed in Austria as regular income at the significant rate of 34%. There are exceptions to this taxation. First of all, a piece of real estate that is used as a primary residence is exempt from this tax. Additionally, all real estate that is held for ten yours or more is exempt from this taxation as well. Therefore, many people, including foreign nationals, hold on to investment real estate for at least ten years before turning around and selling the property for a profit.

Historically, Germans have been the primary group of foreign nationals that have taken to purchasing real estate in Austria.

Investment Property in Austria

As will be discussed in greater detail later, foreign nationals have a history of investing in real estate in Austria. In recent years, significant steps have been taken and made to streamline and simplify the manner in which foreign nationals can invest in real estate in Austria. This particular is true when it comes to foreign nationals from the countries that make up the European Union.

A foreign national that is interested in investing in real estate in Austria needs to keep in mind that the cost of real estate in that country is higher than in any other country in Europe. Thus, for the most part, individuals who find themselves investing in real estate in Austria tend to be a bit better heeled and tend to have a higher amount of disposable income.

The tax implications of buying and selling real estate in Austria also need to be kept in mind when it comes to a foreign national making an investment in real estate in that country. These implications are set forth and discussed previously .

Residential Real Estate in Austria Single Family Properties

Foreign nationals do make the purchase of single family residences and dwellings in Austria with some regularity. Far and above, the greatest number of foreign nationals who are purchasing single family residences in Austria are Germans. Italians are coming in at second place with citizens from other EU nations coming in rather far behind. Of course, there are some people from other nations that are also making the purchase of single family residences in Austria.

Most people who are foreign nationals who are purchasing real estate in Austria are doing to to establish second homes. For the most part, these homes are being used as retreats and for holiday purposes .

Residential Real Estate in Austria Apartments

Some foreign nationals have taken to purchasing apartments in various locations throughout the country of Austria. For the most part, these foreign nationals are purchasing these apartments in the more urban areas in the country. In addition, some foreign nationals are found to be purchasing apartments in some of the resort communities in that country.

Apartments in Austria do not necessarily come cheaply. Indeed, as has been referenced elsewhere, the costs associated with real estate in Austria tends to run far higher than what is found in other countries around the world .

Holiday Property in Austria

Austria is a prime vacation spot in the European community in this day and age. Indeed, Austria has been a haven for travelers and tourists for many, many years. With this in mind, a goodly share of the real estate that is trading on the marketplace at this point in time involves property that is intended for vacation and holiday purposes.

Many foreign nationals who are purchasing vacation or holiday real estate in Austria actually are finding these purchases to be rather lucrative. For example, these foreign nationals are buying real estate purchasing vacation properties that they then utilize in part for their own holiday purposes. However, in addition to using these properties for their own personal holiday purposes, many foreign nationals have commenced the practice of renting or leasing these properties to other people. It is this letting process that has proven profitable over the course of the past couple of decades for an ever growing number of foreign nationals.

Most real estate experts who have spent any time analyzing and considering the market in Austria

Employment Law – Why Employers Should Take Employment Absence Seriously 09-04-2011 10:20

Îðèãèíàë ñîîáùåíèÿ

It is your duty as an employer to keep a close eye on your employees absences from work. This is for two main reasons; firstly, to ensure that your business does not suffer due to staff absence and secondly, to ensure that your staff are well, healthy and happy.

Each employer should sustain a record of absence for every employee. Keeping this record will help you identify any emerging patterns of absence or alert you to a member of staff suffering from a long-term illness. Each separate sector of your business should also keep this record, this will then enable you to compare employee well being across departments. Employee absences records should always be managed in light of the Date Protection Act (1998). Any records must be destroyed after 3 years (of the financial year created) and employees should be kept informed if any monitoring is taking place.

If a pattern of absence appears which is inter-departmental, i.e. one department has a considerably higher level of absence, then you should take the appropriate steps into looking at that departments working environment. Not only this but you should look to your senior members of staff to report on issues within the department, which could be causing the higher levels of absence.

Another good procedure to implement is the return to work interview. This face-to-face interview should be conducted in private with the employees line manager. The interview has several purposes; it establishes exactly why the employee was absent, if they are suffering from a long-term problem and if they are well enough to return to work. It can also provide the employee with a private outlet to complain about their working environment and/or fellow staff members, which incidentally could be causing their absence.

If you do not deal with employee absence at an early stage you run the risk of the following occurring:

- Low staff esteem due to increased workloads in covering the absent colleague

- Agency staff bills being extraordinarily high

- The company failing to reach targets or provide a good service due to a lack of consistent staffing

In order to deal with an emerging absence pattern there are some steps you can take to ensure that you investigate the problem scrupulously. Firstly, you should compare the employees absence over your last 3 years of records to establish any recurring pattern. Secondly, compare the employees absence record to that of the other employees within the same department, this may identify a work related issue. Lastly, check that the employee does not have an illness which fits the criteria of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. The area of disability discrimination is particular complex dont risk being grounds for a potentially highly expensive disability discrimination claim take advice from expert employment solicitors first.

In the first instance employee absence should be dealt with amicably. Talk to the employee and try to discover the reason for a continued or patterned absence record. Solutions such as flexible working arrangements, changing work location or job description can offer lower cost results for you and the employee.

If no solution can be found or the problem is merely unauthorised absence, then you have the option of disciplining the employee under capability and/or conduct. An approved disciplinary handling procedure should be used at this time.

If you are in any doubt as to the reason for the employees absence or the grounds upon which you are starting the disciplinary procedures, then you should seek legal advice immediately from specialist employment solicitors. A dismissal based upon an employees absence has to be legal and if it is not you could face claims of an unfair dismissal via the Employment Tribunal.

The most basic step is to develop clear and comprehenstive policies which deal with employee absence. If you dont and you are not sure where to begin, contact specialist Employment Solicitors who should be able to provide you with appropriate policies dealing with employee absence at a relatively modest cost.

The United States Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) released its monthly list of civil penalties last Friday, May 29. Really no suprises here folks. Three penalities were dished out: two for violations of the Cuban Embargo Program and one for violation of the Sudanese Sanctions Regulations.

The largest penalty was levied against Liberty International Holdings, Inc., for underwriting policies that insured Cuban business risks. OFAC imposed a civil penalty against Liberty in the amount of ,211.75.

Volvo Construction Equipment North America, Inc. was also penalized by OFAC in the amount of ,000.00. Volvo Construction Equipment North America, (yes, they are a subsidiary of auto manufacturer Volvo), is alleged to have facilited the export of motor graders to Sudan from Dubai and effected the transfer of funds in relation to this exportation. What was more interesting is that Volvo did not voluntarily disclose these transactions to OFAC. This is surprising in that when these bigger corporations get hit with OFAC penalities its usually as a result of their voluntary reporting of violations. Furthermore, Im shocked that the penalty wasnt greater due to lack of voluntarily disclosure. It is amazing to me how companies or subsidaries of companies as big as Volvo are still able to find themselves on the wrong side of U.S. sanctions regulations. Now Im sure Volvo has some excellent, high priced lawyers, most likely right here in Washington at some local mega firm, working for them. Maybe this was just a slip up and someone made a mistake when Volvos counsel was performing due diligence on the deal that allowed for these transactions to take place. Or maybe there is still not enough understanding and concern about these regulations. Either way, the word should be out by now, particularly if you are engaged in business with Cuba: if you violate the sanctions regulations, OFAC will penalize you. Which brings me to my next point/question/comment.

Every month when the civil penalties information is released I see the same thing: penalties for violations of the Cuban Embargo Program. Typically most of the penalties imposed are for these violations. What should that tell us? How about, that after nearly 50 years of embargoes and sanctions, individuals and companies in the U.S. are still trying to do business with Cuba. This means that sanctions against Cuba have failed. Period. The Castros are still in power, the communist regime has not been toppled, and quite frankly U.S. persons are willing to risk getting hit with penalties to do business with or in Cuba. Therefore, that leads me to believe it must still be profitable to do so. I doubt at this point people in the U.S. do not know that there is an embargo against Cuban. My guess is that after 50 years it must be pretty well documented. It is time for OFAC to re-examine their regulations and policies.

Looking after your diabetes! 08-04-2011 22:14

Îðèãèíàë ñîîáùåíèÿ

Looking after your diabetes!

Im Deborah Susan, a dietician and personal trainer specializing in nutrition and physical fitness for diabetics. Today I shall write on how you can look after your diabetes and continue to lead a healthy, normal and fruitful life.

Looking after your diabetes

The secret to continued good health and fruitful life despite diabetes lies in regular testing of your blood glucose, not missing any prescribed glucose tablets or insulin dosage and a healthy lifestyle. Today I will concentrate on how you can monitor your blood glucose.

Monitoring your blood glucose levels (Glucose testing strips)

The key to keeping your blood glucose levels or (sugar levels as it is commonly known), under control is to keep your sugar level within the recommended range of 4 to 7 millimoles per liter. Only regular monitoring with diabetic strips can help you achieve this.

Measuring your own blood glucose levels is quite easy if you have a good quality branded digital blood glucose monitors. If you dont have one the neighborhood chemist or any online website specializing in diabetes monitoring tools can help you.

When it comes to glucose monitors, accuracy is the key, so do not buy cheap Chinese glucose monitors. Our own branded blood glucose test meter (glucometers) is highly accurate and usually cost between and . In addition to the glucometer, you will also need a box of test strips (~) and a pack of Lancets (~). The diabetic test strip and lancets are to be replenished as and when required. Replace the battery in the Glucometer as and when required. If the blood sugar meters does not have a battery level indicator you should replace the battery in the glucometer every six months or so. A weak battery can induce faulty results.

Tip: Buy a blood glucose test strips that has a large digital readout, adequate memory and battery indicator.

When and how often you use the blood sugar monitors depends on your treatment, the food you consume and level of physical activity. Apart from regular testing at home, you should also do an HbA1c test every six months. This test is done at your local diabetes clinic and the result gives you an overall picture of your blood glucose levels. HbA1c test results should be as close to 7% (or below). Even a tiny fraction above 7% should be brought to the attention of your doctor.

You can keep your blood glucose under control by:

1) Eating regular small healthy diabetic diet meals so as to avoid major fluctuations in your blood glucose levels.

2) Including adequate levels of physical activity so the insulin in your body works more effectively.

3) Reducing any excess body fat by regular checkup with body fat monitor. (Include half yearly body fat analysis in your health plan/ schedule).

4) Take your diabetes (and any other prescribed) tablets and diabetes supplements according to the schedule given to you.

5) Monitor your blood glucose levels and learn to adjust your treatment according to the results.

Typefreediabetes offers a full line of diabetic testing supplies, including incontinence diapers; supplements for diabetes, portion control plates, glucose tablets, blood glucose monitors, durable diabetes medical equipment, blood glucose test meter and automatic blood pressure monitor and many other home health care products and supplies. Typefreediabetes offers quality products at discounted prices on a wide selection of quality name brand equipment and supplies.

Green Card Lottery USAFIS United States Immigration Part Two Hundred Twenty Four

People studying United States immigration will notice that as a result of the laws enforced during Operation Wetback illegal immigrants were occasionally deported together with their children who had been born in the United States of America and who were therefore also legally United States citizens. United States immigration statistics show that seven hundred and fifty agents aimed at immigrants who worked and lived in agricultural areas and had set the target of apprehending a minimum of one thousand immigrants a day. With these goals in mind fifty thousand immigrants were caught or picked up in only two states in America by the end of July nineteen fifty four. It was estimated that approximately four hundred and eighty eight thousand illegal immigrants voluntarily left the United States so that they could escape the consequences of being caught living and working illegally in America. By September nineteen fifty four there were around eighty thousand illegal immigrants who had been placed into custody in the state of Texas.

The United States Immigration and Naturalisation Services or INS have figures to prove that five hundred thousand to seven hundred thousand illegal immigrants had actually left the state of Texas of their own accord. Trains and buses actually transported many illegal immigrants deep into the country of Mexico before they were released. This was done to ensure that the path back to the United States or re-entry into America was made as difficult as possible as the respective Mexico and American borders were so far away. Many thousands of illegal immigrants were also deported from Port Isabel in the state of Texas back to Mexico and Veracruz, which were situated over five hundred miles or eight hundred kilometres to the South. Some illegal immigrants were even deported as far away as one thousand miles from Texas. However sea deportation of illegal immigrants was stopped due to many immigrants jumping overboard into the sea, from well known ships such as the Mecurio and drowned.

The aim of the USAFIS organization is to help promote the United States immigration policy by assisting people world wide with their efforts for immigration to the United States. The USAFIS achieves this by inviting non American citizens who are interested in U.S. immigration to participate in the American green card lottery program by applying for a green card online. The issuing of green cards is a legal part of the United States immigration policies and immigration rules for the United States as the Diversity Green Card Lottery Program law was passed by the American Congress and has been sanctioned by the American embassy. Many greencards have been issued over the years to non American citizens who achieved the minimum American immigration or USA immigration qualification standards.

People interested in an immigration green card and their immigration to America will need answers to questions like what is a green card, how to get a green card, how to become a US citizen and how long does it take to immigrate legally to achieve American citizenship. These questions and others regarding the USA card lottery are all answered on the USAFIS website at usafis.org. Many other concerns regarding visa USA policies and procedures such as the US visa application, fiance visa, l1 visa and how to administer a green card renewal are also answered on the USAFIS website. What is Leukemia and Symptoms of Leukemia 08-04-2011 21:58

Îðèãèíàë ñîîáùåíèÿ

What is Leukemia and Symptoms of Leukemia

Leukemia is a form of cancer that begins in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow—the soft, inner part of the bones. Leukemia, which literally means white blood in Greek, occurs when there is an excess of abnormal white blood cells in the blood.Known as leukocytes, these cells are so plentiful in some patients that the blood actually has a whitish tinge.

As leukemia progresses, the cancer interferes with the bodys production of other types of blood cells, including red blood cells and platelets. This results in anemia (low numbers of red cells) and bleeding problems, in addition to the increased risk of infection caused by white cell abnormalities.

Causes of Leukemia

Being exposed to large amounts of radiation.

Being exposed to certain chemicals in the workplace.

Past chemotherapy or radiation for another cancer. (This is rare, and not all chemotherapies raise your leukemia risk.)

Working with chemicals like benzene or formaldehyde

These are only risk factors. Most people who have one of the risk factors do not get leukemia.

If you think your child is at risk for leukemia, talk with your doctor.

It is now known that all cancers, including leukemia, begin as a mutation in the genetic material—the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid)—within certain cells. The external or internal causes of such change probably add up over a lifetime. Leukemia begins when one or more white blood cells experience DNA loss or damage. Those errors are copied and passed on to subsequent generations of cells.

There is conflicting evidence about whether electromagnetic field (EMF) is a potential risk factor for developing leukemia. Several large studies are in progress at this time to further investigate this question. EMFs are a type of energy that occurs near very high-voltage power lines.

Symptoms of Leukemia

Infection: A child with leukemia may develop an infection that doesnt respond to antibiotics, have a high fever, and become very sick. This is because of a deficiency of normal white blood cells, particularly mature granuloctyes. Although leukemia is a cancer of white blood cells and children with leukemia may have very high white blood cell counts, the leukemic cells do not protect against infection the way normal white blood cells do.

Such symptoms are not sure signs of leukemia. An infection or another problem also could cause these symptoms. Anyone with these symptoms should see a doctor as soon as possible. Only a doctor can diagnose and treat the problem.

Doctors may find chronic leukemia during a routine exam before any symptoms arise. This form of leukemia may develop over longer periods covering months or years before symptoms are apparent. When symptoms do appear, they tend to be mild and worsen gradually.

Treatment of Leukemia

Stem cell transplantation (SCT) to enable treatment with high doses of chemotherapy and radiation therapy; and

Surgery to remove an enlarged spleen or to install a venous access device (large plastic tube) to give medications and withdraw blood samples.

Radiation therapy. Radiation therapy uses X-rays or other high-energy rays to damage leukemia cells and stop their growth. You may receive radiation in one specific area of your body where there is a collection of leukemia cells, or you may receive radiation directed at your whole body.

Leukemia patients often find it helpful to take a family member or close friend along to these consultations in order to take notes and assist in remembering some of the points of the discussion. For children with leukemia, such is always the case.

Food Allergy: An Overview 08-04-2011 21:52

Îðèãèíàë ñîîáùåíèÿ

The process of eating and digesting food affects the timing and location of a reaction. IgG reactions

Îðèãèíàë ñîîáùåíèÿ

Sanggyeonnye (D-180)

Sanggyeonnye refers to the occasion where the parents and relatives of both of the couples families meet for the first time to discuss the marriage. It is the first official step towards a marriage. Once a couple decides to get married, the man visits the womans parents to receive their permission; then the woman visits the mans parents to greet them. When both parents agree, the sanggyeonnye is held.

Yedan (D-70)

Yedan originally referred to the silk garments that the bride sent to the grooms home. In the old days, silk was rare and expensive and was considered as a good gift item for showing respect. Traditionally, the grooms family sent silk to the brides family; the bride would personally make clothes for her parents-in-law using the silk and then send it back; then, the grooms family would send money back in appreciation of the brides efforts. Today, however, all gifts sent by the bride to the grooms home are simply called yedan regardless of content.

Tip: What gifts were used asyedan?

In the old days, only goods were offered as yedan; as the times changed, however, money is also being sent for the purchase of wanted goods. Yedan is usually sent to the grooms home about a month before the wedding. Together with money, some people also send a set of tableware, silver spoon set, and luxurious beddings.

Wedding Photo (D-50)

With the passage of time, weddings have transcended its strictly ritualistic characteristics but have maintained its place as a memorable and pleasant event. As such, taking wedding photos before the wedding has become a must. Many pictures are taken in a studio, but outdoor photos have also become common. Royal palaces such as Gyeongbokgung, arboretums, theme parks, or other memorable locales are used to take pictures. Wedding dress, tuxedos, hanbok, and comfortable casual clothes are all worn to reflect couples different lifestyles.

Ham (D-10)

If yedanis the gift by the bride to the grooms family, ham(pronounced [ha-am]) is the gift from the groom to the brides family. Originally, the hamwas sent the day before the wedding but it has become more common to send it on a pre-determined date prior to the wedding. Inside the ham, which is a gift box, are a carefully prepared proposal letter, blue and red silk, and a list of necessary items. The ham, which is wrapped in a red cloth called bojagito stem all bad spirits, is sent to the brides home by hamjinabi, the male responsible for delivery of the ham to the brides home.

Tip: Significance of gifts

• Proposal letter: The letter is personally written by the grooms father to thank the brides parents for sending their precious daughter as their daughter-in-law. This bears the significance of recognizing and blessing the marriage.

• Blue&Red Silk:Also called chaedan, the blue and red silk was originally cloth material for making hanbok. The blue silk is wrapped in red paper and then tied with a blue string; the red silk is wrapped in blue paper and tied in red. This signifies the harmonious union between the man (blue) and the woman (red). The string signifies the binding of two hearts into one for everlasting love.

Wedding Ceremony (D-DAY)

The wedding ceremony is a public ritual to notify the public of the couples marriage. In Korea, there are two types of wedding ceremonies. The first and most common is the Western-style wedding held in a wedding hall or church. The other is the traditional Korean wedding, which is becoming more popular among young couples that want to have a unique experience. The traditional wedding involves the bride and the groom bowing to each other in traditional wedding outfits and sharing a cup of liquor in a gourd to vow their full commitment to a happy marriage to heaven and earth. After the actual wedding ceremony, the bride and the groom participate in a pyebaekceremony to bow to the grooms parents. During pyebaek, the parents throw chestnuts and jujube fruits to encourage many offspring and bless a happy marriage.

Visit to the Brides Home (D+7)

After returning from the honeymoon, the married couple would visit the brides home to show their respect to the brides parents. That night, the couple stay there to spend the night in the parents room. This signifies that the parents commemorate and congratulate their daughters return as the wife of a man. The

The Bigotry Of Anti – Israel 08-04-2011 18:04

Îðèãèíàë ñîîáùåíèÿ

The Bigotry Of Anti Israel

The bigotry of anti Israel Facts & Causes

The obvious, or the should be obvious

This is not really all about the Arab Muslim world, whos anti Israel feeling and action is motivated (not by any feeling to help fellow Arab Muslims, fact is, the Arab Palestinians are persecuted all throughout the Arab world) by Arab racism (just as the Kurds, Maronites, Sudanese and other non Arabs suffer from the global Arabization) & Islamofascism or Islamic-Fascism, the evil ideology as Tony Blair calls it (just as non Muslims in general, dhimmi or kuffars, non-believers suffer, global wide, take it straight from the horses mouth, the Iranian fanatical Islamic leader Ahmadinejads call for genocide & ethnic cleansing on Israel that though has no regional or territorial disputes with Iran of course, doesnt belong on Muslim land, in the all Muslim middle east, this anti-Israel facsism still infects most moderate Muslim countries that blindly refuse entry to anyone with an Israeli passport). Nor is it about the few neo/old Nazis that hate all Jews (even those that tell you they hate only Zionists). But this is about the bigotry of anti-Israel infected in the mainstream.

Jumping to conclusion before knowing the facts

This happens on a regular basis, but a few examples might serve as highlights if you wish:   The rush into harsh words by UNs Secretary general Kofi Annan (before he semi-apologized for it) when some UN officials got hurt in the cross fire between Huzbullah terrorists and Israeli defense forces (Hezbullah initiated war and invasion 2006), even after realizing that the UN post was used by the Huzbullah as a tool.   The overwhelming bashing Israel in Arabs deaths, like the very icon the Palestinian propaganda machine used, as in the Arab kid Muhammad al-Dura (2002), which we all know by now, was nothing more than staged by Arabs themselves, and it was Arab shooters that killed that boy.   The rushing media in blaming Israel for the death of an Arab family on Gaza beach (2006), again Israel promised/asked to wait until a full investigation is complete, that concluded it was the Palestinian Hamas led mines that brought about that incident.   No matter how many times the media sees the transparency in the fake images produced and invented by the Palestinians, PALLYWOOD (http://seconddraft.org), it seems to forget, each time a new case appears.

Demanding from Israel the victim of terror more than from the perpetrator

The words an anti-Israel activist told me, resonates throughout this conflict: I cant expect from the Arabs any better, but Israel/ should know better!. In other words, it is part of demanding from the west ever more then from the Islamic world, when it comes to morality. The only problem is that it is not presented in this open way, it is presented as Israel is the bad guy, period. As opposed to endless condemnations by the UN on Israels self defense, When was the last time the UN has condemned the very Arab Palestinian crimes on their own people that they try to pin on Israel, like: Using its kids as human shields (which Huzbullah, in 2006, picked up very quickly, copied them in their war on Israeli civilians, using Arab civilians) and as human bombs? Legitimizing and even glorifying mass murder and genocide as a good holy act in their mainstream and official media?

The Lie of natives is bought

How many have fallen prey to the powerful sell of indigenous Arabs in the land of the Judea? The picture of an all out Arabs in the middle east, is one of the misconception misleading clarity of history, never forget that most todays Palestinians have no more than 3 generations history in this ancient land of the Jews. Absolutely no one has disputed the fact of Arab immigration that saw an upsurge with Zionists immigration (the latter only, limited by the British) in the late 1800. The fact that the most Palestinian icon of all time: Yasser Arafat was an Egyptian born fighting for his homeland in Israel& is so classical. By the same token, it is not well known the fact that over 50% Israeli Jews are of children of indigenous Jews in the middle east (http://jimena.org) .

The Global Goliath Islamo Arab power

The very fact that there was so much talk and selecting/picking on one lobby out of so many different types and different interests lobbies that operate in Washington but the utter silence on the enormous Islamo Arab lobby that basically occupies, threatens,

Why take acute anxiety medication?

Acute anxiety is a condition, that is primarily mental, and is defined by having anxiety along with brief bursts of panic attacks. For the most part, some behaviors change too. Most people with acute anxiety symptoms have claimed that they have had at least one panic attack in their life and many confirm to have had more. It is counted that more than 2.1 % of the adult populus in USA has acute anxiety. Frequently, acute anxiety shows up before the age of 24.Men and women often develop acute anxiety when they experience something traumatic. Women are two times more prone to develop this condition.

Frequently, acute anxiety lasts only a few minutes or hours. Becoming moody and withdrawn while going through a panic attack is normal. Its possible to develop this condition by abnormal fear or worry. Those who go through panic attacks usually claim these moments to be the scariestpoints in their life. |People who have acute panic anxiety agree that its very scary to go through an panic attack.}When having a panic attack, the person suffering the attack will have an overwhelming sense of loosing control and may have a strong urge to abandon the place where it started. This kind of attack is the reaction of the sympathetic nervous system or the commonly referred to as the Flight or fight response.

Many things can cause a man to have a panic attack. Things such as phobic disorders and major personal accident are some of the more common acute anxiety causes. Acute situational anxiety is the normal step after a person faces something extremely terrifying. This can also be true for a man who has gone through a major life even. Marijuana, mushrooms, medication, feelings of low self-worth, what if thinking, and even coffee or nicotine can trigger acute anxiety depression. The condition can also run in the family or be caused by the surroundings.

The signs of acute anxiety treatment are categorized in four different categories, physical, perceptual, emotional and psych. Physical signs also exist. They are claustrophobia, feeling of being choked, , sweating and others. The way a sufferer perceives the surroundings also changes. Time may seem to slow down or speed up, it may seem dream like or develop the so called tunnel vision. The emotional signs are terror, almost always a few fears and flash backs of the earlier trigger situations. Loss of control, extreme stress and fidgeting, feeling that everything is fall apart and inappropriate internal dialogue are just a few mental states that a sufferer goes through.

Help for panic attacks vary. It is best to seek out the help of a doctor. As experience has taught, there is no single acute anxiety cure. Often the sufferers are helped by a wide range of therapies.Medication is mostly very helpful in the initial stages of the condition. Most sufferers come to the realisation that medication only affect the symptoms and do not offer a cure.

At the end of the day most people who recover understand that they have acute anxiety syndrom and need to work on the improper ideas and feelings that cause the disorder. This can be done with the help of a doctor or via self help books and tapes. Its a relief to a lot of sufferers that acute anxiety is something people recover from, and that its not life threatening at all.
