Like their Elephant 6 labelmates and kindred spirits Olivia Tremor Control's Music From the Unrealized Film Script, Dusk at Cubist Castle, Neutral Milk Hotel's debut, On Avery Island, is an inscrutable concept album, a chronicle of an insular world told in a remarkably universal language. A fuzzy masterpiece of experimental lo-fi recording, the album wraps its ragged pop songs in ribbons of loops, marching-band squawks, and Casio noodling; the opener, "Song Against Sex," is as much a manifesto as a kickoff, a self-propelled marvel hopped up on rapid-fire wordplay and a stunningly ramshackle melody punctuated by bloated trombone moans. Datarock is a Norwegian band. The band describes their sound as "a mixture of musical styles [they] like."
A trio of friends, Fredrik Saroea, Ketil Mosnes and Kevin O'Brien, conceived the group while at a festival in Bergen,
and soon hired Tom Mæland. O'Brien and Mæland later left the band, but the duo of Saroea and Mosnes continued the project.
The Datarockers list their major artistic influences as Devo, Talking Heads and the Happy Mondays. The band has released
three EPs and their debut album, Datarock Datarock, was released in 2005 in 10 countries on the band's own label, YAP
(Young Aspiring Professionals), receiving favourable reviews, especially in the UK. They made an appearance in Australia's
Triple J Hottest 100 with the single "Computer Camp Love" in 2005, placing at #12.
Their song "Fa, fa, fa" will be featured in a new Coca Cola advert, and is also featured in NHL 08, FIFA 08 and NBA Live 08 as part of EA Trax.
Fredrik Saroea also has solo aspirations and has recorded several individual tracks, including a duet with fellow Norwegian pop-star Annie.

[408x532] В погоне за звучным и нестандартным названием для своей группы ирландец Гэри Лайтбоди перепробовал несколько имен, остановившись поначалу на Polar Bear («потому что полярные медведи пушистые и, вообще, очень крутые»). Та же идея, только чуть раньше, пришла в голову барабанщику Jane's Addiction Эрику Эйвери, так что от названия пришлось отказаться. Любитель мишек горевал недолго, и вскоре придумал другое, но такое же «зимнее» - Snow Patrol. Однако от шпильки в адрес Эйвери не удержался и назвал свой дебютный альбом «Songs For Polar Bears». Было это в далеком 1998-м году. В то время Snow Patrol играли дерзкий гранж вперемешку с панком и строили большие планы, в которых неизменно фигурировал «волшебник в голубом вертолете»... Волшебника пришлось ждать долгих 5 лет. Но он все же прилетел (некоторые сказки заканчиваются не так печально, как остальные).

Этим «чародеем» стал для Snow Patrol известный продюсер Гаррет «Jack Knife» Ли, участник инди-группы Compulsion, работавший ранее с Basement Jaxx и Эминемом. Сейчас «новая надежда британского рока», как величают группу журналисты, готова целовать ему коленки. Ли отточил жесткий характерный саунд группы, одновременно добавив элементов танцевальности - и прозябавшие до сего времени в безвестности Snow Patrol засияли аки бриллиант на солнце. В самом деле - играющих различные вариации на тему альтернативного брит-попа банд-формирований в матушке-Британии пруд пруди. И большинству не хватает одного - фишки. То есть, узнаваемости. Надо признать, что Snow Patrol уже подготовили минимальную почву для своего генерального прорыва. Но заслуги Гаррета Ли это не умаляет: удачное сочетание живого рок-н-ролльного звучания и последних студийных технологий стало той самой фишкой, что выделила группу из полка себе подобных. То, что оказалось приемлемым для Basement Jaxx, не помешало и Snow Patrol. «If it looks like it works And it feels like it works Then it works», - поет Гэри Лайтбоди в «Wow». Исчерпывающее описание стратегии Гаррета Ли.

Snow Patrol прекрасно понимают, кому обязаны своим неожиданным взлетом (а выдвижение на премию Mercury Music Prize таки о чем-то говорит). «Мы не очень техничные музыканты и вряд ли смогли работать «сессионниками», - признается Гэри Лайтбоди. - Мы просто пишем музыку. Нам нужен был профессионал, который направил бы нашу энергию в нужное русло». Судя по «Final Straw» (оцените символичность названия!), справиться с кипучей энергией «Патруля» было не так уж и просто. Похоже, музыканты и продюсер согласились на компромисс: в первой части альбома музыканты творили то, что хотели ОНИ, вторую взял под свой контроль продюсер. В итоге первые пять композиций «Соломинки», начиная с «Wow» и заканчивая «Spitting Games», слушаются, как одна грохочущая и длинная песня - с одинаковым ритмическим рисунком и в одном темпе. Даже натренированное ухо с трудом отмечает момент завершения предыдущего и начала следующего трека. Присутствие Гаррета Ли минимально, но все же ощущается - в виде забавных электронных вкраплений то там то сям.

Зато вторая половина «Final Straw» оправдывает самые смелые ожидания. Первые сполохи северного сияния (ну если Snow Patrol, значит, Крайний Север) угадываются уже в «Spitting Games», где заходящиеся в хрипе дисторшированные гитары внезапно теряют весь свой запал и сходят в акустику. Но «небо в алмазах» раскрывается над головой только на «Run» - первом сингле с альбома, благодаря которому Snow Patrol и открыла для себя широкая публика. Вдохновенная и эмоциональная баллада, достойная стать в один ряд с «Yellow» Coldplay и «Street Spirit» Radiohead. Риффовая последовательность в финале «Run», возможно, войдет в учебник по подготовке юных гитареро.

«Run» является переломным моментом «Final Straw», снежным перевалом на пути следования «Патруля», если хотите. Snow Patrol на глазах преображаются из взъерошенных «индюшат» во вполне респектабельных поп-рокеров. «Way & Means» звучит так, как будто исполнена посаженными на электрический стул Maroon 5. «Tiny Little Fractures» - неловкое посвящение Garbage (Ширли Мэнсон, кстати, от Snow Patrol в восторге). Но это цветочки - дослушайте до «Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking» и вы поймете, почему по Snow Patrol так убивается публика. История Cheese People началась в 2003 году, когда еще не умудренный меломанскими знаниями юноша Антон (сейчас он работает в самарском филиале музыкального магазина «Союз») познакомился с Шиповником, местным адептом хип-хоп-культуры. Ребята попробовали сочинять биты и накладывать сэмплы, но вскоре пришли к выводу, что без вокала их музыка звучит не очень эффектно. На их счастье, судьба свела парней с очаровательной девушкой Олей, обладательницей чудесного мяукающего голоса и отличного английского произношения. Оля влилась в проект, и Cheese People приступили к домашним репетициям. Через некоторое время команда нашла свой удивительный стиль – он оказался весьма далек от хип-хопа. Шиповник отошел от дел, Cheese People обросли живой ритм-секцией и осенью прошлого года уже выпустили демо-альбом «Psycho Squirrel».
Такой феноменально забавной, драйвовой и ладно скроенной музыки в нашей стране не записывали давно, да и на Западе молодежь сейчас все больше сочиняет песни печальные и интровертные. Cheese People сделаны совсем из другого теста (вернее, сыра): они совершенно не желают «загружать» слушателя, искать глубокие смыслы в их емких сочинениях, в общем-то, не стоит. Но зато положительные эмоции буквально обрушиваются на вас неослабевающим потоком. Что бы ни вытворяла эта улыбчивая компания, что бы ни исполняла – легковоспламенимый диско-панк, таинственный трип-хоп, синтетический фанк или загашенный шумами рэп, – каждый ее куплет действует на мозг, как доза чистого адреналина. При этом звучание молодого коллектива столь самобытно, что аналогии проводить сложно. Ну, разве что, попробуйте себе представить, как круто звучала бы Софи Эллис Бекстор, если бы аранжировки ей делал еще не впавший в грех стяжательства Бек – примерно такую трудновообразимую музыку исполняют Cheese People.

The band released three EPs in 1998 and 1999 which established the group's new sound and met with a warm critical response.
Their debut album Lost Souls (2000). This was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize which they lost to fellow Mancunian and former
front-man Badly Drawn Boy. Doves' second album The Last Broadcast was released two years later, reaching #1 in the UK album chart
and was again nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. This record contained the track "There Goes the Fear", which reached #3 in
the UK singles chart despite only being released for one day before it was deleted. In 2003 the band released a B-sides compilation,
Lost Sides, and a DVD entitled Where We're Calling From, recorded live at a gig in Cornwall's Eden Project.
Doves recorded their third album recorded away from urban influences, and in cottages tucked away in the countrysides of Snowdonia in
Wales, Darlington, England and around Loch Ness, Scotland. "Lyrically, the theme of cities and towns and change started cropping up a
lot…which was strange because we were recording and writing in the countryside, but it started taking this real urban shape". says Jimi
Goodwin The band's third studio album, Some Cities, was released in February 2005 and went straight to #1 in the UK album chart, aided
by some of the strongest reviews they'd received to date, and preceded by the single "Black and White Town," which reached #6 in the UK
singles chart. The song "Black and White Town" was inspired by the social divide in their home town of Wilmslow.
The band are currently working on new material for their fourth LP. The album was expected to be released in late 2007 but according to
their blog, it will be delayed since Andy will be a new father and will be taking some time off. New track titles announced on the official
website include '10.03' and 'Winter Hill,' as well as working titles 'Disco Eyam' and 'Devils in the Detail.'
Dove concerts are known for their background of alternative films playing in the background to different songs.

On 30 September 1967, the BBC launched a new popular music radio station to compete with the illegal pirate stations that had a monopoly on playing new music. Since that time Radio 1 has become a world famous name, championing new music of all genres and establishing itself as a home to both the popular and the innovative. To celebrate this 40th anniversary, Radio 1 have asked 40 of today's biggest acts to cover 40 tracks from each year of its history. This album is the result.

Starting with probably the UK's biggest indie act, Kaiser Chiefs, covering the first track ever to be played on Radio 1, The Move's 'Flowers In The Rain', running all the way through to the modern jazz-folk-soul superstar Corrine Bailey-Rae's version of The Raconteurs' 2006 hit 'Steady As She Goes'.

The Blackout are six metallic troubadours from Merthyr Tydfil in Wales. They cruised onto the rock community’s radar a year ago with the fearsome statement of intent that was the cunningly titled six-track fierce panda mini-album ‘The Blackout! The Blackout! The Blackout!’ and by the time they started working on ‘We Are The Dynamite!’ they had already shared stages with their fellow newcomer peers of 2006, Gallows and Enter Shikari.
