Q&A with Tim Skold
Sheila Rene': Tim, darlin' welcome back to the world of rock and roll.
Tim Skold: Ho, ho, ho. We lost track of one another.
SR: The RCA rep in Dallas, Bob Osbourne brought me just a single on this project. I flipped and started getting this set up. I was so delighted to find out that it's you.
TS: That's strange and good.
SR: I don't think I ever paid attention to what your last name was when we worked together on Shotgun Messiah.
TS: Hold on I'm going to change phones. I'm having problems hearing you.
SR: My little Tim Tim. In '93 you and Cody split up to try some new things.
TS: The general response at the label was that we made that last album only to get dropped which blew me away. We thought it was an amazing album.
SR: Me, too I loved the industrial leanings on that album for Relativity. It's been a long time coming for me, but I finally love industrial today mixed with everything.
TS: Yeah, I'm still a bit butt-headed like that. I think music should be played and on Violent New Breed we played all that stuff. There's a lot of programming involved but if you look at a sampler or computer after a while it becomes an instrument. It is still music. There's a lot of ways you can cheat these days with a lot of factory presets and the owners manual will give you all the short cuts in the world. After a while you get bored with that and you start creating and it becomes just another tool.
SR: Then you want to get with a band from there.
TS: I have my band together. We're getting ready to tour.
SR: Who are the members?
TS: Kevin Marburg is my bass player from Diatribe; and The Duke, is on guitar from the ex-Idols and B.J. is my drummer. He's the same drummer I had on the Violent New Breed tour. He plays an electronic kit that's really cool.
SR: The Idols were an alternative band as I remember.
TS: I think they were a punk band. Relativity did a number on them too.
SR: Do you enjoy making music music by yourself as much as working with other folks? You wrote all the music and played all the instruments on this one.
TS: Exactly. Music is strange like that because it always has two sides to it. It's a double edged sword. To reap the benefits you have to put in the work and it becomes a lot of work. I start second guessing myself because I'm not really a guitar player and I'm not really a drummer. I can pull it off with technology and make it different or strange or new. It's like that with singing too. I'm not really a singer either. I was debating this very question when RCA signed me from the demo only. I thought about putting together a band then and that would take a long time. I just wouldn't just hire people it would've taken some time to find the right people. I decided to do it myself and I had a couple of false starts. I lost my direction a couple of times, but I'm really happy with the way it turned out. It's not a run-of-the-mill prime example of industrial today. If you dig deeply into this album, it's quite different.
SR: How did the signing with RCA come about? Through a demo?
TS: I was sitting around doing demos like I always have done. I got my first SIM keyboards, sampler in late '88 or early '89. I've been doodling and doing my own thing, like a hobby. I do music for a living and music as a hobby too.
SR: I'm fascinated with all the different mixes you've done on these songs. I got into your website and listened to a couple of them. It took me a while to download them properly.
TS: My site is user hostile intentionally. It's too tricky to be easy. One of the reasons is that there are so many websites out there that I wanted to put together something that was like a puzzle. You have to rack your brain for a while. There are some instant gratification things there too. The blinking lights for instance; but you have to dig in to get it all.
SR: I signed up for the free stuff and sent you an e-mail.
TS: I had some problems with my provider and now I'm with earthlink.
SR: Me, too. I think their set up is working great.
TS: I'm happy with them too.

Я зацепился за эту мысль в дороге, потом посмотрел на себя и вернулся на вечеринку в соседнем автобусе, чтобы выкинуть из головы это дерьмо. Господи, я скоро мастурбировать с ним буду! У меня были просто грандиозные планы стать сольным артистом или кем-то типа этого. Это бывает, когда я хочу что-нибудь сделать, тогда я забиваю на все остальное, иду и делаю то, что хочу. Это отличается от панковских композиций, созданных в Shotgun Messiah; а Stix вообще надерут всем задницы. Я сказал Harry (Cody): «Блядь, мужик, это как раз то, что я хочу сделать!», а он ответил: «Заебись, пойдем сделаем». Так и создавался альбом «Violent New Breed».

Тим Сколд: Похоже на то. Зависит от того, как ты смотришь на это, для меня и Harry - это одно, так как мы были участниками и основателями. Но временами все начинает доставать и это, несомненно, отражается на саунде. Каждый является частью группы, и это совершенно меняет грёбаную запись. Знаешь, совсем недавно люди выпускали альбомы каждый грёбаный год и ты не успевал прослушать один альбом Alice Cooper, как уже выходил следующий. Это устраивало подавляющее большинство, но не повышало продаж альбомов Cooper, ну ты и сам в курсе. Это лишь одна разновидность концепции для того, что мы собираемся делать. Это предложение очень заманчиво, но если нет грёбаного свободного времени между релизами, то я отказываюсь.
Алекс Рихтер: В записи принимала участие какая-нибудь новомодная группа или всё делал только ты?
Тим Сколд: Увы, на этом альбоме только я. У меня была группа, занятая в этом деле, но я не надеюсь на количество. Я просто записал свою фигню и прокрутил это на пленке, а RCA этим заинтересовались. Обычно все происходит так: «Нет, это не то, блядь!» и я швыряю куда-нибудь телефон. Этот тур без группы был бы не таким интересным. Мне в кайф думать: «Да, я на своем месте». Эти парни упертые, это реальное fucking упорство. Я не хожу повсюду и не втираю свое дерьмо. Я законченный реалист и не думаю, что нуждаюсь в чем-то там сверхъестественном, хоть оно и имеет для меня значение. Я никогда не рассматривал это в другом свете. Я работал с ними, мне это нравилось и тут понеслось: я - иностранец, моя виза просрочена, я начинаю сходить с ума… Можешь показать, где здесь есть нормальная еда, я купил бы что-нибудь пожевать.
Алекс Рихтер: Все же это больше не похоже на ранние альбомы Shotgun Messiah. Что ты думаешь об этих альбомах сейчас?
Тим Сколд: Я думаю, они дают неплохое представление о группе. Тогда в группе многое создавалось по этой же сути. Я задаю веселое настроение, когда работаю с людьми, понимаешь? Это моя роль и для меня очень важно чтобы, оглянувшись назад, я точно знал, где мое место сейчас. У меня никогда не было грёбаных проблем с теми, с кем я работал. Я думаю лучше двигаться вперед, чем забивать на то, что ты хотел бы изменить. Вот посмотри на свою школьную фотографию спустя много лет, ты увидишь насколько ты изменился, а если думаешь, что интересуешься тем же что и тогда, то ты себе пиздишь.
Алекс Рихтер: Итак, когда и где создавался этот альбом?
Тим Сколд: Был где-то год 94-ый, я был в Сиэтле и работал с Mark Long. Я обожаю работать с ним. Мы провели вместе месяца три. Я люблю этого парня, мы постоянно веселились и создавали обалденное дерьмо. Мы написали тридцать треков, а когда пришло время посмотреть что вышло - «Супер!!!» или «Уйди в отстой!», я понял, что не хочу этим заниматься. Короче, я вернулся в Чикаго к Howie Beno. И в основном дела снова пошли на лад. Howard самый прикольный чувак и вместе с ним все превращалось в сплошной отрыв. Много всякого случилось за то время, пока я безумствовал с ним. Но опять прошло три месяца, наступило затишье и я понял, что не хочу там оставаться. Но, похоже, все ровно трахнули меня. Сейчас я говорю правду, но уже ничего не вернуть. Тогда

Biography
Early life
Tim Skold was born on December 14, 1966 in Skövde, a small city in Västergötland, Sweden. The 5'10" blond has just one sibling, a sister named Linda. Tim grew up in a very liberal setting as the son of a 15 year old mother and a father trying to get by as a semi-professional drummer.
At age 11, Tim was motivated to get in a playback band. Tim's band would play for people at school meetings with Kiss, Bowie and Sweet songs playing on a cassette player.
Tim first rented a bass by the month at age 12 and by the time he was 13, he was playing and singing in his first real band. Tim later met guitarist Harry Cody at a New Year's Eve party and they formed a creative partnership which would last for many years to come. Their dream was to go to the U.S. to be rock stars. At age 17 after 2 years of studying Process Engineering at a boarding school, Tim moved into his own apartment and took a factory job making military equipment. A half year later he was drafted into the army. He brought his bass to the base and sneaked into the shower stalls to practice after everyone went to sleep. Tim also kept rehearsing with Harry on the weekends and once out of the army, took on many odd jobs including library assistant and gardener at a bathhouse.
At 19, Tim and Harry talked a Swedish record company into allowing them to make a record which they could use as a demo to reach the American market. Starting off as Shylock, their determination soon paid off in the form of Kingpin.
Kingpin
During the early 80's, bassist Tim Tim (changing his name from Tim Sköld ) and guitarist Harry Cody formed the glam metal band Kingpin in their native Skövde, Sweden, inspired by the flamboyant hard rock bands flowing out of L.A. and UK acts such as Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Zodiac Mindwarp.
The band kicked off their career with a 7" single titled "Shout It Out" (which hit #1 in Sweden) in 1987 after drafting vocalist Zinny J. San and drummer Stixx Galore a short time later. Kingpin released their only Swedish album, Welcome To Bop City, the following year, later moving to L.A..
Shotgun Messiah
Signed by Cliff Cultreri at Relativity Records, Kingpin changed their name to Shotgun Messiah (due to a San Francisco-based band holding the rights to the name Kingpin), remixed and re-packaged Welcome To Bop City as a self-titled album, releasing it as their international debut in 1989.
After having MTV smash hits such as "Don't Care 'Bout Nothin'" and "Shout It Out" whilst the band was in progress of making a follow up to their debut self-titled album, Zan was let go. They hired a new bassist, Bobby Lycon, from New York, and on Harry Cody's suggestion Tim Tim switched to the lead vocals. At this time, Tim Tim, whose role was now frontman, went by the name Tim Skold, dropping the umlaut. They released Second Coming in 1992, which was enthusiastically received by the media, and was their most successful album to date. Two singles were released from that album, "Heartbreak Blvd." and "Living Without You".
Shortly after, the band followed up with an E.P. entitled I Want More which contained some punk covers along with re-recorded songs from their previous album "I Want More", 'Babylon' and an acoustic version of "Nobody's Home". Soon after this release, Shotgun Messiah were down to two original members, Skold and Cody, seeing the departure of Stixx and Lycon.
Still under contract with Relativity Records, Skold and Cody decided to go back to Sweden for the recording of the third Shotgun Messiah album, Violent New Breed, which leaned towards the industrial end of heavy metal . The album was released in 1993 and is now considered a cult classic due to the 'before its time' incorporation of industrial influences. However, at the time of release it received mixed reviews and continued public indifference, which eventually convinced the two to call it a day, leading Tim to embark on his solo project, Skold.

Идея создания этого клипа пришла совершенно случайно. В песне "Heart-Shaped Glasses" есть строчки "...Она была оета в белое...". Ну мне и вспомнился Тим из клипа "sAINT".

Вот что значит развитие компании...иногда полезно быть программером директором и менеджером одновременно. Работа с клиентами у меня удается на ура..Вчера поступило предложение местной молодежной газеты стать партнерами..причем это будет выгодно для обоих сторон..Они будут посылать рекламу потенциальным клиентам и делать рекламу о нас в газете а мы будем рекламировать их на своем сайте. Я чтобы понабивать цену ответил типа мы подумаем...:) Хотя тут и без раздумья ясно что мы согласны)
Чувства мои не описать...случаются вещи которые меня вводят в ступор. Приходит мне смс - "Влад я беременна..", у меня упало вообще все .. что может стоять...гыггы) .. я даже заикаться стал..с одной стороны я рад как скотина..а с другой...как то рановато еще...мне всего 18. Прилетаю к ней..гляжу а у нее ужасный измученный вид.."Меня тошнит" - объясняет она мне..у меня в груди все подпрыгивает..далее..узнаю что у нее болит грудь и что у нее задержка уже 2 недели..впадаю в кратковременную депрессию..минут на 10..осознав что все..я теперь АТЕЦ..решил что теперь она моя семья и я должен о ней заботиться..тем более что заботясь о ней я буду заботиться еще кое о ком:) Я носился по комнате как угорелый..ей даже вставать с постели не позволял.., утром я проснулся от того что ее рядом нет..только я хотел заволноваться как она возвращается..с улыбкой на лице..ложится рядом...обнимает, целует..и спокойным голосом говорит - "У нас пока не будет детей..по крайней мере ближайшие месяцев 8..потому что цикл начался.."...Да....это было как избавление от всех грехов..но мысль "бля ... а жаль" всетаки прокралась в мое сознание...Эх ... посвятить себя готов я ей..
