We heard the new Placebo!
Télémoustique was exclusively invited to London on Monday, the 28th of November to discover nine tracks that will be on the new album by Placebo, which is expected to be released in mid-march 2006.
For this fifth album, Placebo have chosen to work with Dimitri Tikovoi, who had already collaborated with Brian Molko on his Trash Palace project and recorded a new version of Je t'aime Moi non plus sung by Molko et Asia Argento. "He is our age, knows the sphere of the group well and wanted to redifine the intention. He's exactly what we were looking for", explained a very excited Brian Molko.
The group went into the studio last June and recorded fifteen tracks. The album will contain 10 or 11 of them. "There is no name for the album yet, and we still have to decide on the titles of certain songs."
Mixed by Flood (Depeche Mode, U2, Soulwax), the nine tracks we heard (two of them ballads) mark a return to their roots for Placebo. Heavy sound, heavy guitars that overlap each other, and Brian Molko's voice put in the foreground. We're completely riding the new wave.
"Placebo are on their fifth album. They haven't stopped to evolve and to refine the production. This time, we had to rediscover the frechness, the effectiveness and the urgence of their first recordings. I put the group into the same place and everything was caught under live conditions. There was practically no programming", Dimitri precisizes. A collaboration with Michael Stipe (REM) had been considered. The question was posed to Brian again this Monday, a very dry "no comment" being the only answer. On the other hand, one will find on the album a song interpreted with V.V., the singer of The Kills. Complete article soon in Télémoustique.
