сношения с Linux (весьма специфично, большинству можно спокойно пропустить)

Работа з пишущим приводом в ядрах 2.6.х не осуществляется через эмуляцию scsi и модлуь ide-scsi, а имеет прямой доступ к АТА устройствам, в том числе и поддержку DMA.
В этом случае cdrecord -scanbus (которое отлично работает на ядрах 2.4.2Х) выпадет с таким диагнозом:

Это оказывается вполне естественно. Поможет в этом случае
cdrecord -scanbus dev=ATA


Зыж это я все к чему? Да я просто перелез на Debian :)

Upd: постепенно дебиан становится белым и пушистым. Это есть гуд. Ощущается какая-то законченность и лаконичность управления пакетами.
