LUTON July 1928
A heat-wave revives a traditional industry. Workers and manufacturers in Luton are smiling because the heat-wave boosted demand for men’s straw hats, after a lapse of some years. Luton was for many years the centre of straw hat production. Since no-one was properly dressed without a hat it was a huge industry, with subtle changes of shape introduced each year to ensure that last year’s dated design was discarded.
