Dogs are celebrated at Nepal's Kukur Tihar Festival

HEARTWARMING PHOTOS OF THE HINDU FESTIVAL THAT CELEBRATES DOGS
Every year in Nepal, the five-day celebration of Tihar fills the streets with festivities as Hindu people celebrate the "festival of lights". During this celebration, one day is always set aside to honor man's best friend.
The special day is known as Kukur Tihar and it falls on the second day of the celebration. On that day, people everywhere celebrate the faithful friendship of our four-legged friends by sprinkling them in flowers, giving them garlands, adding colorful forehead markings with chalk, and giving them delicious dog treats.
The entire five day celebration is all about storytelling and the celebration of various animals and their connection between gods and humans. What else happens during the five day festivities? Aside from the special dog day, the other days include the worship of crows, cows, oxen, and the self. All of these days have special back stories that reveal connections to the gods through these animals.
So how do dogs connect us to the spiritual world? According to the Hindu tradition, dogs are the messengers of the Lord Yamaraj, the God of Death.
Personally, we think this day should be celebrated all around the world! Dogs deserve to honored for all the love and support they give us.
