This tutorial shows how to create a wig cap and wig for your BJD. Just plug in the measurements of the doll. To create lifelike hair, use natural fibers such as mohair locks. Make the wig as dense as you wish by adding more layers of fibers. No sewing required for this wig!
[600x494]
Materials
- 10 inch by 10 inch piece of cotton fabric
- Mohair locks or other natural long-stapled animal fiber (we used Wensleydale fiber)
- Clear plastic film wrap
- Clear craft glue (must dry clear)
- Paint brush
- Scissors
- Tape measure
- Ruler
Make the Wig Cap
[300x201]
Wrap the BJD’s head in plastic wrap.
[300x201]
Measure from top of forehead to base of head. (L)
[300x201]
Measure the front of the forehead from the middle of one eye, to the middle of the other. (W)
[300x152]
Draw a rectangle with length L and width W on the fabric.
[300x201]
Cut the rectangle out. Position on top of the head.
[300x271]
Spread glue over the whole piece.
[300x201]
The piece sticks lightly to the plastic wrap.
[300x201]
Cut 2 semi-circles to fit the spaces on each side of the head.
[300x201]
Trim if necessary so that the ears are not covered. Apply one semi-circle so it overlaps the center band.
[300x359]
Cover it completely with glue. Repeat for the other semi-circle.
[300x129]
Measure the circumference of the head. Draw a rectangle on the fabric whose length is the circumference of the head plus 1/2 inch, and whose width is 0.5 inch. Cut the band.
[300x201]
Wrap the band around the head so it overlaps the previously glued pieces.
[300x359]
Cover the band with glue.
Let the wig cap dry completely on the doll’s head overnight.
Glue the Hair
[300x201]
Cut one end of all fiber locks, creating a straight edge.
[300x201]
Apply glue to the bottom back of the cap.
[300x201]
Apply the hair, with the straight edge on the cap. Apply extra glue.
[300x201]
Glue fiber to the sides of the head.
[300x201]
Continue adding layers of hair until the whole head is covered and you reach the spot where you wish to have the part.
[300x201]
Put extra glue on part.
[300x201]
Push the ends of the hair straight into the glue. You will apply 2 sections of hair, one going to the right, one going to the left. Let the wig dry completely. (You may need to add more hair plugs for the part to look natural.)
[300x201]
Take the wig off the doll. Peal the plastic wrap out of the wig. Apply a line of glue on the inside of the cap all the way around.
[300x201]
Glue hair along the edge. Let the wig dry thoroughly.
