Create a simple French felt beret for your BJD. This tutorial can be adapted to any size doll. Just plug in the measurements of your BJD! The beret can be hand-sewn or machine sewn. If hand-sewing the beret, use a back stitch for the seam.

Materials
- 1/4 yard felt
- sewing thread in matching color
- scissors
- box cutter
- compass
- tape measure
- paper
- pencil
Create the Pattern
[300x201]
Measure the circumference of the doll’s head.(c)
[254x252]
To find the radius of the circle (r), divide c by 6.28. With your compass, draw a circle with radius r on your pattern paper.
[300x254]
Draw a second circle, that is 0.75 to 1.25 inches larger, around the first circle. For example:
- For smaller dolls, such as a pukiFee, add about 0.75 inch.
- For SD dolls, add about 1.25 inches.
- For MSD dolls, like Isabelle in the photographs, add about 1 inch.
Cut along the outer circle. Then, cut out the inner circle with a box cutter. You will have a doughnut
Cut the Pieces
[300x302]
Pin the doughnut to the felt and cut along the outer circle. Do NOT cut the inner circle out. Remove the doughnut.
[300x302]
Pin the doughnut on the felt again, cut along the outer circle, and then cut the inner circle out. Discard the inner circle.
[300x201]
You have 2 pieces with the same circumference: a felt disk and a felt doughnut.
Sew the Pieces
[300x201]
Pin the doughnut and the disk together.
[300x201]
Sew along the outer edge of the beret, leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
[300x201]
Trim thread ends.
[300x201]
Cut triangular notches out along the outer edge of the hat.
Turn hat right side out. You can add decorations to the hat. (We added 3 colored pearls.)
