Italian Tin Glazed Hand Painted Majolica ChargerA fabulous 19th century Italian Majolica Istoriato wall charger in the Renaissance style. The charger has a wide cobalt border and contrasting “grotesques” with a classical center medallion, all handpainted and typical of the tin-glazed ware produced in the style of earlier artists from the Urbino region. Because of the glazes used and the firing process, the charger still showcases the vivid and earthy colors which have retained their brilliance over the years. The plate is in good condition, with an old staple repair (a testament to its age) that can be seen only on the back of the charger; mounted with a metal wall hanger; size 14” D.

A beautiful early 20th century Italian Majolica tin glazed wall charger with hand painted decoration. This charger is a replica of the highly respected work of the Renaissance style artists who created sensational works of art on large plates, vases, and other forms. Typical of that style is the wide mustard ground border with Raffaellesco Grotesques surrounding a center medallion painted in a classical Roman scene.The charger was made by The Societa Ceramica de Colonnata of the Fiorentino region of Italy.
