Приготовила для наглядности место пришива, пару зубочисток, пуговицы, иглу с нитью. Внизу петля, чтобы не мешал узел.

Сначала пришиваем совершенно традиционным способом, используя одну или две зубочистки (это зависит от толщины борта).

Пришиваем с зубочистками, закрепляем нить небольшим узелком и вынимаем зубочистки. 
А дальше... Внимание! Обычно обматывают нитки вокруг пуговицы, делая "ножку", но она потом распирает петлю, деформирует борт. Сделаем иначе. 
Не обматываем, а оплетаем! Рисуем ниткой восьмёрку, пропуская иглу между ножками петли!

Смотрим сбоку - видим тоненькое ребро оплётки:
