The terms are related but distinct: a sacrament is a sacred rite instituted by Christ, and the Eucharist is a specific sacrament of Christ's Body and Blood. Communion can refer to the general act of fellowship or sharing, the act of receiving the consecrated elements (the Host) during the Eucharist, or a particular service centered around this reception.

Sacrament

·         A sacrament is a visible sign of God's grace and a sacred ceremony that brings Christians closer to God.

·         The Eucharist is one of the seven sacraments in the Catholic Church and is a central rite in other Christian denominations.

Eucharist

·         The Eucharist is the name for the Sacrament itself, referring to the consecrated bread and wine that Christians believe are the Body and Blood of Christ.

·         The word "Eucharist" comes from the Greek word for "thanksgiving".

·         The Eucharist is not just the bread and wine but the entire ritual, which includes the proclamation of the Word of God.

Communion

       Fellowship

In a broader sense, communion refers to being in fellowship or a shared experience with others.

The Act of Receiving

Communion is the specific action of receiving the consecrated Body and Blood of Christ during the Mass or other Eucharist services.

·         The Rite/Service

It can also refer to the Communion Rite or a Communion service, where this reception takes place.

In Summary

Think of it this way:

1.    Sacrament: The overall category of sacred rites.

2.  Eucharist: The specific sacrament itself, the consecrated Body and Blood of Christ, and the entire ritual of worship.

3.       Communion: The act of participating in the sacrament by receiving the consecrated elements.
