The consumption of sunflower oil or fish oil in food threatens serious problems with the liver. This statement was made by scientists from the University of Granada.

Spanish researchers conducted experiments in rats. They forced the experimental for a long time to eat olive and sunflower oil, as well as cod liver oil. During the experiment, specialists measured the length of the bodies of animals, followed the ultrastructural changes in their internal organs. Scientists found that the liver was more healthy in a group of rats that consumed olive oil.

Sunflower oil led to liver fibrosis, and fish oil increased oxidative processes in it, causing cells to age faster, and also accelerated the processes of cancer. Also, sunflower oil and fish oil increased the chances of developing metabolic non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. The discovery is reported on the website of Medicalxpress.
