A good way to make progress in English is to learn new vocabulary. But how much new vocabulary should you learn?
It's probably true to say that you don't need to learn every new word. You need enough words to "survive" in English speaking situations (or when you write). But how many words is that?
It's estimated that native English speakers know between 10,000 and 20,000 w ords (understanding between 20,000 and 30,000 words) while non-native speakers of English know between 3000 and 20,000 words. The minimum you need, according to experts, is around 120 words. On average, we all learn one to two new words every day.
