Creating a Lighted Christmas Wreath

Start by opening an image of a wreath.

Duplicate the layer. Press Ctrl+U to open hue/saturation window. Apply settings as shown.

Change the layer mode to "Overlay".

Create a new layer and fill it with black color. From "Filter" menu select "Render>>Lens Flare ". Apply settings as shown.

Press Ctrl+U to open hue/saturation window. Apply settings as shown. This will change the light color.

Change the layer mode to "Linear Dodge". Select and move the layer to place the light appropriately.

Similarly create more lights with different sizes and colors.

Open animation window. For the first frame hide most of the lights except one or two.

Duplicate frame. Unhide other light layers and hide previous ones. The trick is to be random. No strict formula for hiding or unhiding the light layers.

Keep duplicating frames and hiding/unhiding light layers.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S to save an optimized animated GIF.
