Finished Size

About 28 (31 1/2, 35, 38 1/2, 42, 45 1/2, 49)" (71 [80, 89, 98, 106.5, 115.5, 124.5] cm) bust circumference.

Sweater shown measures 31 1/2" (80 cm).

Yarn

Sportweight (#2 Fine).

Shown here: Imperial Yarn Tracie Too (100% wool; 395 yd [361 m]/4 oz [113 g]): #351 Autumn Rust, 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4) balls.

Needles

Size U.S. 5 (3.75 mm): 16" (40 cm) and 24" (60 cm) circular (cir).

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions

Markers (m); tapestry needle.

Gauge

40 sts (4 patt reps from chart Rows 3-12; see Notes) measure about 7" (18 cm) wide; 60 rows (5 patt reps) measure about 7" (18 cm) high in lace patt from Manheim chart.

Notes

For Rows 1 and 2, the Manheim chart temporarily increases from a multiple of 10 stitches plus 1 to a multiple of 13 stitches plus 1, then decreases back to the original 10 stitches plus 1 again for Rows 3-12. If possible, count stitches after completing a row when the normal 10-stitch repeat has been restored. The counts given in the instructions assume this 10-stitch repeat.

During shaping, be sure to maintain the proper stitch count by working each decrease with its corresponding yarn over, or each double decrease with both its companion yarn overs. If this is not possible, work the stitches in stockinette instead.
