The sky is for the Main Thing because people fly by planes from one country to another in the sky.
And planes are for the Main Thing because, when they fall, they fulfill the predictions of the fate.
And people are for the Main Thing because with their actions they bring the end of the Earth closer.
And the Earth is for the Main Thing because bodies of those who died in the war are buried in it.
And the war is for the Main Thing: without wars, men would not do sports and women would not try to look better so that men would break each other’s heads with gun butt-stocks for them.
And guns are for the Main Thing because guns are used to keep count of the dead, and the dead only die for the Main Thing because without the dead there would be no beautiful monuments and other works of art that were created in their honor.
And the honor is for the Main Thing: for honor, men throw themselves onto knives and women kill their unborn sons in their stomachs.
The son is for the Main Thing and the daughter is for the Main Thing. Only for the Main Thing do children come into this world, and go to the kindergarten, and play truant, and steal money from their parents, and smoke their very first cigarettes, and rob their very first apartment – all of this only for the Main Thing!
For the Main Thing scientists make their discoveries and gangsters shoot at a tobacco kiosk with a machine gun.
For the Main Thing violinists play music by Mozart and philatelists collect valuable stamps.
For the Main Thing are Michelangelo’s paintings and swear words on the fences.
For the Main Thing we despise our parents and hit our child in the face.
For the Main Thing do we throw cigarette-butts on a flowerbed and buy alcohol with the money that was intended for a bicycle for our child.
For the Main Thing we decide not to have children and shoot at a cat with a gun; we love, hate and kill only for the Main Thing; we blame, slander and torment only for the Main Thing, for what else? And we put heroin up our veins, and visit Bach’s concerts, and help a blind man cross the road – all of this is for the Main Thing.
And we give our last cents to a beggar, and discuss politics, and cut our veins all for the same reason…
For the Main Thing we talk and cannot stop.
For the Main Thing we stop and ask the Main Question:
“What is the Main Thing for me?”
