A good press release is going to start with your personal information right at the top so that the reporter knows immediately who you are, who you work for, and how to contact you. You want your personal information to include first your name, second the company you work for, third your phone numbers (personal line, fax line, and cell), fourth your companies web site, fifth your email address.

After making your name, company, and contact information clear, you want to type in your headline. It is important that your headline is clear and easy to understand. Make it straight to your point and don't add a lot of hype or fluffy words that are going to keep the reporter guessing at your meaning. For example if your company is releasing a new product simply put, "ABC releases new weight loss formula, XYZ." Keeping your headline clear and simple helps the reporter to see quickly what your purpose in writing is and to know quickly whether or not they are interested.

Your first paragraph is going to be very important. This is where you introduce the product, or announcement, and grab your reader's attention. Again, keep this paragraph clear, concise, and to the point. Do not try to sell your reader on the product, you are simply trying to gain their interest in using the product. Expand on your headline and put key information in this first paragraph.

The body of your press release should answer the reader's questions. When was the product discovered? How was it researched? For how long was it researched? What where the test done on the product? Who discovered the product? What is the date your company plans to release it? This is your informational paragraph that is going to answer all of your readers questions, not sale them on the product, and help them to know exactly what they will be reviewing if they choose to review your product or company.

The last paragraph should briefly state your relationship with the company, how long the company has been in existence, and any pertinent information regarding your company.

A well written press release can do a lot of good for a company. It can even do more good than an advertising campaign. If your press release is easy to understand and does contain news that would be interesting or helpful to the general public, then many reporters and journalist will be interested in reviewing your company or product and you will thus earn free press and publicity from your simple press release.

If for some reason your press release was not immediately picked up my the local reporters or broadcasters, there are always more and more news and informational sites popping up on the internet that are constantly looking for stories to report on. These sites are hungry for information and you can submit your information right to them to get it quickly posted and published.

If you send out many press releases a year it may be worth the time and money to you to hire an agency who will submit your press releases for you to the media. This agency would already have a list of contacts they can contact to get your information into the media. If you go with an established and well known agency then you are more likely to get your information with well known and established broadcasting and news companies.

There are many different styles of writing a press release. The most important things to keep in mind are that you are not trying to sale your reader on your product. It is merely an informational release that if written correctly should spark the readers interest in researching and learning more.
