This holiday is named on (назван в честь) a Christian priest (прист - священник) Valentine. He was beheaded (бихэд - обезглавить) in the name of (во имя) love. The legend says that he sent a love letter to the girl he loved and signed (сайн - подписывать) it “From your Valentine”. St Valentine became the patron (пЭйтрэн - покровитель) of lovers.

In our days we exchange (иксчэнджь - обмениваться) our love notes (любовные записки) in form of “Valentines” (в форме валентинок). Around the world people send approximately (эпроксимитли - около) 1 billion Valentines each year.

Usually the lovers on this day send flowers, valentines and small gifts (?) to each other. The modern (современный) symbols are heart shaped (в форме сердца) figures (?) and the figure (фигэ) of the winged (?) Cupid (?).

The Roman mythology (мифолэджи - мифология) says Cupid was the son of Venus (вИнэс - Венера). She is the goddess (годэс - богиня) of love and beauty (?). Cupid shoots (шут - стрелять) the people with his magical arrows (эроу - стрела) and causes (служить причиной) the people to fall in love (?). Writing a love poem or love letter in this day is very typical (типикл - типично, обычно) on this day, because in our busy (бизи - занятой) life usually we miss (пропускать) these special moments.

The first love letter was sent of the duke (дьюк - герцог) of Orleans. He sent it to his wife (вайф - жена) from the prison (призн - тюрьма) in the Towers of London.

Most people spend days choosing the right present for this day because it is very difficult to decide which is the best one for the person who is very close to our heart (близка сердцу). In this special day some of us prefer (прифё - предпочитать) the comfort of their homes, preparing (припээ - готовить) dinner or watching an interesting movie (муви - фильм) but others organize (огэнайз - устраивают) a dinner out in a romantic restaurant (рЭстрон).

Whatever (вотэвэ - неважно) you decide, this should be the most romantic day in the year. Prove (прув - доказать) and show your real, pure (?) love to the person next to you and enjoy (инджой - наслаждаться) the day.
