Bravo: With “Narnia” you became a movie-star “over night”. Have you always dreamed about something like this?
Ben: Somehow I’ve always wanted to become popular. It was my biggest desire at 13, to become a famous sportsman.
I started to train in cricket and football like insane, but unfortunately I wasn’t good enough for a professional career.
Two years later I discovered my love towards acting and singing.
Bravo: You sing?
Ben: Yes, I even participated in a boyband. That was 4 years ago. We’ve been four boys and called ourselves “Hyrise”.
Back then, we even took part at the English assortment to the Eurovision Song Contest. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to reach the final. The day after our “drop out” we already broke up. If you like, my pop-career lasted four and a half minutes (laughs).
Bravo: How did things continue?
Ben: First of all, I finished my studies in English literature and drama. Then, I started playing in theatre. And then there came along “Narnia”…
Bravo: Have you always believed to be successful one day?
Ben: I’ve always wished for it, but wasn’t really certain. My Dad told me about a motto: Success is the best revenge. I do even possess a T-shirt with that line. But now I start being successful, revenge isn’t that important to me anymore!
Bravo: How does it feel to suddenly see one’s own face upon busses and giant billboards?
Ben: I still cannot really believe it. Lately, my Mum showed me an English daily paper with my picture on the front page. At that time I just thought: She copied it in to bullshit me.
So I extra did go to a kiosk – and there really was my photography on all the magazines (laughs).
Bravo: Do you know the Prince Caspian action-figure?
Ben: Yes, and my friends make fun of the fact, that you can buy me as a doll. I keep telling them: I’m not a doll, I’m an action-figure. Not Barbie, but Action-Man!
And by the way: I very much like the video game: I look really cool in it. I’d love to be like that in reality…
Bravo: Did you googled you name?
Ben: I must admit: Yes! And I don’t like a lot of the things written about me. Some people are overcritical about my work as an actor, therefore others like it far too much.
It’s healthier not to take those things too seriously.
Bravo: Has anybody told you about your resemblance with the young Orlando Bloom before?
Ben: I’ve heard that before. It’s a lovely compliment and a nice comparison. But Orlando did participate in lots of movies already, and myself just in one.
So I’m miles away from him from the achievement’s point of view.
Bravo: Therefore you unhitched Justin Timberlake his girlfriend Jessica Biel!
Ben: Hang on a minute! I’m even married to her (laughs)!
But honestly: We’re just a couple in “Easy Virtue”, my next movie. But I must admit: When I’ve heard first that I was supposed to play Jessica’s husband, I signed the contract without asking any questions. She is a real dream woman!
Bravo: In private you’re Single. What does impress you?
Ben: I like people with a distinctive personality. When somebody has his or her own style and stays true to it. And the most important thing is humour!
Bravo: Would you like to have a girlfriend?
Ben: Sure, who doesn’t? But at the moment I’ve got so much to do, I would be capable to spend as much time with a girlfriend as I’d like to do.
And beginning of 2009 we’ll already start shooting “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawntreader”. At least Caspian discovers the love of his life. And at the end I even marry her. Ups! I hope, I didn’t give away too much… (smiles)
