На сайте ВВС News (есть у меня в ссылках) народ из разных стран активно откликнулся на поставленный вопрос: Who Is The Greatest Russian? Комментирование уже закрыто, так что впечатления пост фактум.

Здесь произошло то, о чем я и писала в предыдущем посте на эту тему (http://www.liveinternet.ru/users/2324642/post80869297/):

заявлено было организаторами совсем не то, что вышло в конечном итоге, потому что установка звучала как «выбор исторических деятелей России, оказавших наибольшее влияние на судьбу страны» (подразумевается положительное и отрицательное), а в итоге вышло (что, на мой взгляд, вполне естественно), что выбираем «самого великого» - раз уж рейтинг и голосование, то победитель получает титул. Да и название проекта обязывает. Я остаюсь при своем мнении, что некорректно поставлена задача (заговорила как педагог=) ).

Кроме того, ввиду неразличения в английском языке слов «Российский» и «Русский» и неточности формулировки, были высказаны многочисленные возражения типа «Сталин был грузином», «у Николая II немецкие корни» и т.д., т.е. подняли проблему «русский – нерусский», о которой изначально даже и речи не было, так как подразумевались россияне. Но это уже на совести BBC.

Мнения высказаны самые различные. В числе достойных титула «самого великого русского» называли Достоевского, Пушкина, Циолковского, Королева, Минина и Пожарского, Петра Первого, Екатерину Великую, Гагарина, Хрущева, Путина, Суворова, Кутузова, Горбачева, Солженицына, Менделеева и множество других (сил прочесть ВСЕ комментарии просто не хватило), и даже Абрамовича, Анну Курникову и Марию Шарапову вспомнили. Хорошо, что хоть не Диму Билана за достижения на «Евровидении».

По поводу лидерства Сталина почти всеобщее недоумение, возмущение и шок, а Ленина практически никто не упоминает вовсе. Николая II великим не признают, что, в общем-то, неудивительно.

To suggest Stalin is akin to a modern suggesting Hitler as the greatest German, i.e. obscene. In my opinion it has to be either Gorbachev or Tchaikovsky, with an outside bet on Maria Sharapova. Neill Monaghan, Maryville, USA

Minin and Pozharskiy would probably be the greatest russians equally since they led the uprising against the Polish occupation of Moscow in the period known as Smuta about 500 years ago. This is what celebrated on June 12 as Russian Independence Day.
I would also suggest Suvorov and Kutuzov for consideration to be the greatest russians.
Stalin is definately a negative figure and Nicolas 2 did nothing great for Russia . They cannot be the greatest people, they are among the most well-known. Alex, NC, 

Nicholas II is insignificant and is high in the votes because of anticommunist admirers of Russian empire. Stalin is significant, and he gets votes from those who admire the Soviet era. Please, don't consider those millions of people who died fighting nazism as Stalin's victims.

Gorbachev is a western favourite who almost has no fans in Russia.

The third in the vote so far is someone few people know in the west. It is Vladimir Visotsky, composer and singer.

I'd like to note that the question for internet-voting was stated as: "Who of the persons listed below has made the greatest impact on the Russian history?" I think that even Mr.Churchil will agree that Stalin can be No 1 in the list of answers Constantin, Vilnius

Sergei Korolyev, he was the chief engineer of the Russian space program during its heyday of Sputnik, Gagarin, Leonov, etc. Oleg

I'll go with Gorbachev. He ended the unwanted occupation of eastern europe, much to the joy of Hungarians, Poles and many others. He helped end communism, which stood for unlimited state power over the individual.

How can a Tsar who couldn't manage political problems OR command the army in WW I be a contender? On top of that he was the Tsar who abdicated due to the Bolsheviks in 1917!

Josip Stalin started the 'Great Purge', the Gulags & oversaw the death of millions of Russians.
