I would like to say my opinion about the art of the news-gathering. I think that this is the paramount kind of job for news-gatherers, first of all, for correspondents employed by different kinds of newspapers and news agencies for selecting news.
It should be noted that the news-gatherer must have a highly developed sense of news values, this quality is necessary for ability to cover the most important and interesting events and affairs. To acquire an ability of gathering topics of the day the beginner must have a wide acquaintance with men and affairs, a sound educational background, moreover he must possess a very considerable stock of general knowledge.
I should add that to have the art of news-gathering the journalist must be able to distinguish what is of interest to considerable number of readers from what is of little concern to the majority of the audience.
In addition the journalist must constantly up to date that’s why he must have his finger on the pulse of current thought and public opinion, moreover the news-gatherer must aware of what is of topical interest for great mass of men and women, what they thinking and feeling.
In conclusion I would like to tell that what the journalist writes must appeal to the men in the street, to men who not have immediate bearing to journalism.
