В пятницу пришло миленькое письмо:

At the conference call dated 15th March 2007 between OAO VNP , SNC-Lavalin UK Limited, OOO “ NK “Rosneft –NTC” and FGUP “наша_контора” the representatives of OOO “ NK “Rosneft –NTC” expressed their doubt regarding the use of enamels XB-124 and XB-125 for painting surfaces of piles for their corrosion protection in the design of pile foundations and recommended using bituminous-rubber insulation mastic of grade МБР-65 to GOST 15836-79.

In the past FGUP “наша_контора” didn’ t use this material for corrosion protection of piles. To be able to assess properties of this material specialists of FGUP “наша_контора” need additional information on experience of using this material for corrosion protection of pile bases under certain climatic conditions, on its strength properties as well as additional time for investigating the matter.

As an alternative FGUP “наша_контора” proposed to use Stelpant coating systems for corrosion protection of piles representing single-component moisture hardening polyurethane materials Pu-Zink with a service life of 20 years recommended by All-Russia R&D Corrosion Institute (OAO VNIIK). Besides FGUP “наша_контора” successfully used priming enamel СБЭ-111 “Unipol” of grade B to TU 2312-001-59846005-2003 for piles protection in their projects.

These materials are used for pile corrosion protection only. Stability of piles against frost heaving shall be done by the following engineering and special activities:

- the depth of embedding piles into permafrost ensures sufficient holding force of pile freezing with soil along its lateral surface,

- base soil thermal stabilization actions will be provided if it is impossible to ensure the required bearing capacity of piles along its lateral surface by means of its length only.


Please advise us of the Client’s decision of this problem.

With reference to the attached letter from FP revise and issue your pile drawings immediately to include the specification proposed by NTC.

If necessary include a note on the drawing setting out your concerns and reservations
