Sophie on her new engagement
The former popstar turned actress was surprised by her tattooed Good Charlotte boyfriend with a romantic proposal on Christmas Eve on the Gold Coast, where the pair celebrated the festive season.
Monk's publicist told The Daily Telegraph that the Los Angeles-based actress, who returned to the US two days ago, was overjoyed.

"She is very excited. They were very happy," the spokesman said.

Monk and Madden, both 27, have been dating since mid last year after meeting on the set of one of his band's video clips.

The proposal came as a shock to Monk, who less than two weeks ago said the pair had no plans to tie the knot: "I just haven't thought about all that kind of stuff. I can tell you one thing though, this is the happiest I've been for a long time."

The couple have not set a date or location for the wedding.

Madden presented the Hollywood actress with a stunning platinum and diamond ring, weighing in at 3.5 carats, that he helped design.

Madden had a fling with another Australian, Killing Heidi frontwoman Ella Hooper, in 2001.
