The downfall of the US Military, or Russian myth. 15-03-2004 22:52

You know I have never seen so many “specialists” on the US Military as I see here on li.ru. Anyone and everyone seem to know the US Military inside out, they can point all the problems in it right away tell you exactly what will cause the downfall of the US Military force.

The problem is that everyone who “thinks” they know something about the US military have ever served in the American forces or have even done any kind of extensive research or even try to understand why the US Military does what it does. However it does not stop them from having an opinion and thinking that they are right.

As a person whose knowledge about the US Military didn’t come from Russian books and movies, but rather came from actually serving in the US Military, let me try to analyze some of the arguments seen here on li.ru

The most popular idea (look at the post by “Klushkin” for example) is this:

The problem with the US Military, and the reason why the US Military will never win a serious contest is that American Forces are too obsessed about ZERO Casualties in the war (which can never be achieved), and that their soldiers are not ready to sacrifice their lives for the cause, and that Americans are to reliant on their technology and if that was to fail, Americans will be destroyed…and blah, blah, blah, blah…

The people who are saying that not only know nothing about American military, but they also know nothing abut the Military science in general and are judging US Military by the same standards as the Russian military is judged.

Let’s not even talk about how technology makes the soldiers better, how they can kill their enemy from a distance and the enemy wouldn’t even know they are there. That’s obvious, let’s talk about the HUMAN factor.

First of all, US Military is a PROFESSIONAL organization; it’s a BUSINESS like any other. That means that EVERYONE who join any branch of US Military (just for record the US Military branches are: US Army, US Marine Corps, US Navy, US Air Force, US Coast Guard, US National Guard – falls under Army, a bit different from other branches) has done so VOLUNTARY and is making HIS LIVING in the US Military for which he/she gets paid for. The contract is usually for 4 years, after which you can extend your contract for another term.

Second of all, let’s talk about this ZERO casualty policy of the US. First of all, everyone knows that ZERO casualty in a war is impossible to achieve, but minimizing the loss of man power is the BEST possible strategy in any military conflict for a professional Army.

It cost US Government upwards of $50,000 to make ONE professional and capable soldier, after you include the training, food, clothing, salary paid, and other expenses. It costs more then $100,000 to make a capable Middle Management soldier (Sergeants and above, since those are almost all served more then 4 years already). It costs a lot more to make an Officer.

So every time a US soldier or an officer is lost, US government loses a lot of money, and that simply makes no Business sense. So as you can see, it would be CHEAPER for the US government to lose a couple of tanks, a plane or some other piece of expensive technology than to lose 30-40 soldiers including sergeants and officers.

That’s one side of the coin, the other side of the coin is CONFIDENCE in your own command. Every single US Soldier knows that his Command will do EVERYTHING humanly possible to make sure he survives and comes back to his base. Every single soldier knows that he’ll never be simply wasted away, because he is too expensive to waste.

Just how important is that? Who do you think would be willing to fight better and more confidently? A scared 18-19 year old soldier who is unsure of his officers and command, or an older, better trained professional who knows that technology and support of this command will be always there for him?

The point is any PROFESSIONALY run Military organization should strive for minimizing their human casualties as much as possible if they want to succeed in a military conflict in the 21st century.

USA – THE EVIL EMPIRE! 10-03-2004 20:49

I got the idea for this post from the comments I often hear on li.ru, such as the comment by flat-out.

The idea is this – USA is stripping the world of resources, bullying everyone around, trying to enrich itself, while everyone else suffers and that’s why the world is such a bad place.

Now let’s take a look at the world, shall we? We’d like to think that we live in a world where people truly care about each other, willing sharing their resources with and other things they own with one another. We’d like to think that, but that’s simply not true!

When is the last time Saudi Arabia said to a poor African country – you know what, guys, I know you don’t have the money, but go ahead and take our oil – here, we know you need it? Or Russia said to Chechnya, we’ve been fighting for a while, and even though it’s our territory and it’s important for us to have access to the oil in the region – go ahead and separate, that’s ok, we’ll manage?

The truth is every country is looking only for their own best interest at heart, they care about their own people, and they want to make their life better for their own people, and when it comes down to it, they really don’t care about anyone else. That’s how the world is now.

Imagine the world as a playground with each country being a child in that playground.

Now imagine you’re the toughest, strongest kid on the block, everyone either respects you or fears you. You’ve got the power and most of the goodies, and most of the other kids hate you for it. They would like to have the same kind of power and goodies, but to get it they have to go through you and they are afraid, because they know they are not strong enough. They can’t really get together and beat you up because they don’t really like each other either; the only thing they really care about is their own interests.

They want the same power and goodies, but the problem is they do not want to share it with anyone else.

Now, if you are that toughest kid on the block and you want to keep that power and goodies for yourself and keep the other kids in line you have two choices:

1. Wait until someone gets strong enough and gets enough courage to challenge you and then fight them. OR
2. Every once in a while show off your strength and beat up a kid that you really don’t like to show the other kids you’re still the toughest and the strongest.

If you wait until they challenge you, you’ll most likely be in a very serious fight, since the kid is probably have been getting ready for a while to take you on. And even if you win – it will not come easy, you’ll have a few bruises for sure.

Now, if you don’t wait and just pick on the kid that has been making a lot of noise and beat him up, the fight will be much easier and your losses will be a lot less.

Now of course in a perfect world there is a third choice – where everyone’s equal, there is no strongest, no weakest kids, everyone’s sharing, living in total peace, holding hands singing happy songs – but we haven’t gotten there yet.

So to sum up my points, USA as the toughest and strongest kid on the block is doing exactly what everyone else is doing – Looking out for THEIR OWN best interests and making life better for THEIR OWN people.

The difference between USA and the rest of the world is that USA is doing it better than anyone else, and that’s why USA has all the stuff and that’s why most other countries hate the US.

Wow, I have some readers now 09-03-2004 21:47

First of all, welcome everyone.

Not really sure whether I can keep your interest in this journal, but I'll try to post here my thoughts and keep a conversation going with interesting people.

Every once in a while I might post something in Russian, but most of my notes will be in English to keep most of the "goblins" (I believe they are called) out of this journal, since most of them don't understand English.

Feel free to post your thoughts and ideas about anything and everything here, this journal will be totally unrestricted.

P.S. Sorry about some of the "rough" language in the earlier posts with a "goblin" - kind of lost my temper, I'll try to keep it in check.

Bush cost me my job, my kids and my houses!!! 09-03-2004 04:17

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak my
mind. I lost my job this past year. When Clinton was
president I was secure and prosperous, but in the last
year, we had to close our operations. We simply could
not compete with foreign labor. This foreign labor
worked for low pay under very bad conditions.

They worked very long shifts, and many even died on
the job.

This competition could hardly be called "fair." I was
forced out of the place where I had worked for 34
years.

Not a single government program was there to help me.

How can Bush call himself "compassionate?" Far worse,
I lost two of my sons in Bush's evil war in Iraq. They
gave their lives for their country, and for what? So
that Bush's oil buddies can get rich. My pain of
losing my sons is indescribable.

While it is trivial next to the loss of my sons, I
regret to say that I also lost my home. I simply have
nothing left. How can Bush call himself a Christian
when he neglects people like me? I am a senior citizen
with various medical problems. I'm not in a position
where I can begin a new career. I was reduced to the
point where I had to live in a hole in a ground, all
because of President Bush.

And when the authorities found me there, did they have
any compassion for my misfortune and ailments? No, I
was arrested. Mr. Bush, I dare you to look me in the
face and tell me you are a compassionate man! I dare
you to look me in the face and tell me you are a
Christian. If I had any money left, I would donate it
to the Democrat Party.

If Al Gore had been elected in 2000 I would still have
a job, a home, and most importantly, my dear sons!

Regards,

Saddam Hussein

Who's to blame for Russia's problems? 05-03-2004 22:26

Wanted to write a post like that yesterday, but couldn’t quite get to it….

I wanted to talk a bit about various Russian national traits, which a lot of Russians seem to have, in my opinion from my experience. Remember I am Russian myself, so when I talk about Russian I talk about myself too.

First of all, Russian believe people that they are special in some divine way, smarter, better then other “lower” nations. I guess that’s what “National pride” is, and that’s perfectly fine to have. This particular trait does not apply to Russian people only, I’m sure it applies to many other cultures. Yet there are cultures where this particular trait is not present in my opinion, particularly in Asia and Africa. Can only speculate about Africa since I never really been there.

Second trait is connected to the first, Russians believe that because they are special and better, Russia is soon going to wake from it’s long dream (“Sleeping Giant”) and then all of Russia’s enemies are going to suffer greatly and Russia will come to power and become the greatest nation.

Third trait is directly connected to the second. Because Russia’s enemies know that when Russia wakes and they will be sorry, Russia’s enemies do everything in their power to keep Russia down. And there are a lot of enemies – main one being the USA and the Jews.

The forth trait is connected to the second and the third. Russians believe that the reason why Russia is not the greatest power yet is because of it’s enemies. Russian enemies are at fault, they are the ones to blame for all the problems that Russia is currently experiencing. Basically other people are at fault, not Russians themselves.

Let’s see: first of all, because of the Mongols and Teutonic Knights Russia got held back in its’ development by 300 years.

During the Czarist times it was the Masonic Lodge that was holding Russian back from development into a great nation.

Because of Communists, who were mostly Jews, Russian revolution happened which also held Russia back for many years.

Then of course the WW2 held Russia back, and finally now it’s the Americans, Jews and people from the Caucauses ( ) that are holding Russia back form achieving great things.

I’m not familiar enough with other cultures (besides American) to say whether those traits are universal. Do other cultures blame someone else for their problems?

Looking at the great nations of this world – Germany and Japan for example. They had very bad things happen to them in WW2, yet it didn’t stop them from become economically sound nations. Do Japanese hate the American or the Jews (A lot of the scientists for the Manhattan project happened to be Jewish) for dropping atomic bombs on them and devastation their country? What about Germans, do they hate Russians, Americans for basically turning their country into a pile of rubble after WW2?

Granted Germany lost less people in that war, but Germany had less people to begin with and they lost all of industrial cites as well.

Yet, they were able to overcome all those things, and Russia couldn’t, why??

Is that because they stopped blaming someone else for their problems, accepted responsibility, figured out what those problems were and actually did something to fix them?

Hmm…something to think about……

How come? 04-03-2004 23:24

For those who accuse of hating Russians, and being a traitor, I’ll say this:

For me to hate Russians means to hate myself and I don’t hate myself. I’m Russian and at the same time I’m American and I do not want to give up either side of me, I am both – deal with it.

I would love nothing more then to see Russia become a great country it’s capable of being, Russian people are one of the smartest, greatest people in the world, and I am proud to be a part of that group, no matter what I do, no matter where I live I’ll always have that, I’ll always be Russian at heart. Why can’t both America and Russia be great countries? Does the raise of Russia mean the destruction of America? A lot of people in Russia believe that….that’s sad.

Now for some people being Russian means hating everyone else who is supposedly at fault why Russia is not a great country – Jews, Massons, Americans, Germans, people from the Caucauses….. Why? I love America – so does that automatically disqualifies me from being Russian? Just because I can point out the bad things in Russia, and criticize Russia, does that mean I don’t love it?

I can point things and criticize America, but that wouldn’t make me American-hater, how come it doesn’t work the same way for Russia?

What Russians that live in Russia don’t understand is that I and they have a different perspective on life. Sometimes to get a clear view on how things are in a country, you need to look at it from the outside (living in another country) – things will start to look much different that way.

I have a unique perspective, I’ve lived in both countries (Russia and USA) for many years, but rather then to listen to what I have to say (good or bad), many Russian will simple dismiss everything….you’re are an “assimilated traitor”. But what they don’t understand, you cannot fix something if you don’t know it’s broken. And some of those things that are broken in Russia can only be seen from the outside, by people like me.

You don't have agree, but listening wouldn't hurt.....

Is that what's holding Russia back?

Russian "patriots" in foreign countries 04-03-2004 04:05

I recently talked to this one idiot, who accused me of being a "traitor" to Russia, because I have "assimiliated" into the culture that I live in.

The funny thing is, this so-called "patriot" of Russia also leaves outside of Russian Federation in a foreign country, but according to him hasn't "assimilated" into that culture and therefore hasn't betrayed his country.

How's he a patriot and how am I a traitor?

We both live outside of Russia, both do not pay any Russian taxes, both are not contributing a cent to Russia in any way, either physical or intellectual.

So just because he talks shit about the culture and he lives in and considers himself a "patriot" - he automatically is one.

What has he done for his country lately? Has he fed hungry Russian children, has he helped Russian government in any way? Or may be has given money to the elderly?

What is a "patriot"? To me, that's the person willing to sacrifice his life for his country. So if you leave outside of Russia - you are NOT sacrificing your life for Russia, how can you? Can you leave outside of your motherland and still be concidered a "patriot"?

If you want to help your country, you have do it while living and working in that country......simply attacking anyone who has a negative thing to say about your country (true or not) does NOT make you a "patriot".

What it does make you is an idiot and a lier.

Your country cares about one thing and one thing only - WHAT have you done for your country recently???....nothing else

Thoughts from work 03-03-2004 22:35

Just finished a project have a few minutes to write a couple of lines...not really sure what I should be writing about.

I've been a reader on li.ru for some time now, but never a writer....some journals are interesting, some are very interesting and some are very stupid. I'm not the kind of person that likes to open his personal life to other people, so I'll never post any kind of personal information or pictures in this journal.

I really don't care if anyone reads or understands my journal, to be perfectly honest I opened up this journal for one reason and one reason only - I really wanted to shut some of the stupid fuckers that have been showing up lately in my favorite journal here, on li.ru - reddragon.

Elvira is obviously talented, she writes amazing texts, her posts are full of life and a pleasure to read. Yet there are a few idiots here on li.ru that have nothing better to do then to player hate and talk shit....Puzyakina for example, Divo_SovsemNeDivnoe, some of the others.

Both of those are obviously not stupid women, they have aspirations, have dreams, but either were never good enough or had enough guts to follow those dreams, so they live their simple lives hating anyone and everyone who has any kind of talents and had the guts to follow their dreams.

They simply can't measure up and that pisses them off. Divo is nothing but a typical bored American house wife, in a couple of years she'll get fat, bear a couple of kids and will forget all about her dreams and will accept her role in life.

Puzyakina is a Moscovite....thinking that just because of that fact she's better than anyone else, just because she lives in the capital. But deep down inside she is jealous of anyone who lives abroad in a civilized country. She knows (at least she should) that if you compare Moscow to any other major Western city, Moscow cannot measure up.....
