Who's to blame for Russia's problems? 05-03-2004 22:26

Wanted to write a post like that yesterday, but couldn’t quite get to it….

I wanted to talk a bit about various Russian national traits, which a lot of Russians seem to have, in my opinion from my experience. Remember I am Russian myself, so when I talk about Russian I talk about myself too.

First of all, Russian believe people that they are special in some divine way, smarter, better then other “lower” nations. I guess that’s what “National pride” is, and that’s perfectly fine to have. This particular trait does not apply to Russian people only, I’m sure it applies to many other cultures. Yet there are cultures where this particular trait is not present in my opinion, particularly in Asia and Africa. Can only speculate about Africa since I never really been there.

Second trait is connected to the first, Russians believe that because they are special and better, Russia is soon going to wake from it’s long dream (“Sleeping Giant”) and then all of Russia’s enemies are going to suffer greatly and Russia will come to power and become the greatest nation.

Third trait is directly connected to the second. Because Russia’s enemies know that when Russia wakes and they will be sorry, Russia’s enemies do everything in their power to keep Russia down. And there are a lot of enemies – main one being the USA and the Jews.

The forth trait is connected to the second and the third. Russians believe that the reason why Russia is not the greatest power yet is because of it’s enemies. Russian enemies are at fault, they are the ones to blame for all the problems that Russia is currently experiencing. Basically other people are at fault, not Russians themselves.

Let’s see: first of all, because of the Mongols and Teutonic Knights Russia got held back in its’ development by 300 years.

During the Czarist times it was the Masonic Lodge that was holding Russian back from development into a great nation.

Because of Communists, who were mostly Jews, Russian revolution happened which also held Russia back for many years.

Then of course the WW2 held Russia back, and finally now it’s the Americans, Jews and people from the Caucauses ( ) that are holding Russia back form achieving great things.

I’m not familiar enough with other cultures (besides American) to say whether those traits are universal. Do other cultures blame someone else for their problems?

Looking at the great nations of this world – Germany and Japan for example. They had very bad things happen to them in WW2, yet it didn’t stop them from become economically sound nations. Do Japanese hate the American or the Jews (A lot of the scientists for the Manhattan project happened to be Jewish) for dropping atomic bombs on them and devastation their country? What about Germans, do they hate Russians, Americans for basically turning their country into a pile of rubble after WW2?

Granted Germany lost less people in that war, but Germany had less people to begin with and they lost all of industrial cites as well.

Yet, they were able to overcome all those things, and Russia couldn’t, why??

Is that because they stopped blaming someone else for their problems, accepted responsibility, figured out what those problems were and actually did something to fix them?

Hmm…something to think about……

i'm actually far far away from all the traits you gave above.

i really have not much to say in reply, and the reason is other than my unawareness of the things happening both in the world and in Russia. i'm aware as i've been taught many things related throughout the two educations i have and i'm not gonna stop studying as my future depends on where i find myself among other people.

i'm not one of those, who will count all ice-cubes on the iceberg surface and try to calculate how deep it goes into the water.

and i simply disagree with all the traits listed as they are just a small part of a coplex of human relations system. you globalise one of the plots which is touching you more. the world we have cannot be monopolar as it is not monopolar, the people are all different and the live different lives.
and different ideals.

the Problem of Russia is its bad roads and fools....

See the traits I’ve described are more prevalent in Russian people who haven’t had the opportunity to get out the see the world, and had the benefit of education in a different country.

I don’t exhibit those traits either, at least not all of them, but I have met a lot of people in Russia, and even here – on li.ru who seem to have those traits.

Have you seen the traits I’ve described in Russian people? If so, would you be able to categorize those people more or less? Such as by education level, economic status and so forth. Just wanted to compared our observations.

Thanks, not familiar with that particular book, not really sure whether I can find it here, in the States.

Keep up the good job with your writing, don't even worry about Puzyakyakina and company - we'll keep them at bay. :)

By the way, you don't update your website very often, do you?

DarkMagician,

RedDragon,

Thanks, I'll look up the book you're talking about next time I'm in Moscow, hopefully I'll find it.

As for the website - sometimes even when there is no really significant news, it's good to put something...so it looks like something is happening, you know? :)

Do you keep in touch with the modern/conteporary literature in Russia? What would you recommend for light reading, perhaps something historical?

My library needs to be updated, I haven't add any books to it in a while.

Thanks
