По всей видимости отправлять немецких десантников к «пешмерге» для обучения тех пользованию отгружаемыми в их адрес ПТРК «Милан» не стали — решили ограничиться обучением на месте. Спокойнее и вернее. В комплект помощи курдам, кроме ПТРК «Милан» включили отправку команды медиков в Ирак,обязательство лечить тяжелораненых боевиков в Германии и поставку партии миноискателей.
2 октября 2014 года министр обороны ФРГ Урсула фон дер Ляйен посетила пехотную школу в Хаммельбурге расположенной в округе Нижняя Франкония, в которой, на настоящий момент проходят обучение 32 курдских солдата.
В течение семи дней их «натаскают» в использовании и применении противотанковыми ракетными комплексами "Милан", после чего курдские «военные» будут сами проводить инструктажи по использованию ПТРК на местах, в Ираке.
Всего планируется поставить курдам 40 ПТРК "Милан" и 500 ракет к ним.

К мероприятию подошли ответственно - каждому курду выдали камуфляж со складов НАТО, хорошие ботинки, каски и бронежилеты с очками, Всё это для того, чтобы затруднить опознание "операторов". Для поднятия духа и идентичности долгое время не признанных курдов в качестве бонуса пошили "национальные" щевроны.
