When you're ready for a few purl stitches -- this is about 1/4 purls. Very simple, from Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick-N-Quick - Needles US 15 -- 2 sts = 1' For "Thermal Stitch" CO 20 sts -- Rows 1 & 2: Knit. Row 3: K 2, P 2 Row 4: K 2, P 2 Continue in pattern
Big needles doing garter stitch -- a few rows with fluffy or wired laceweight to form the background grid, then two to a few rows of something varied and bulky. If you only do one or two rows of the bulky at a time, with more of the net background prominent, it may be called "Scribble Lace"

NICE color use in simple pattern - I'd use knitted garter stitch, this is crocheted. Mitered squares are worked like a decreasing chevron, long sides to smallest point. Links to color charts & rectangular diagrams are also given.
